  1. I realize its a highlight reel but ...oh my goodness! Just can't see us taking a WR as our # 2 pick. I could be wrong though. Chan is an O guy.
  2. Right. And he's so dumb he figures people can't see that. What a loser.
  3. In his junior year 28 TDs 4Ints. It is just not possible that he is only throwing it up for grabs. I agree he is a goof and a dick. But there are some goofs and dicks that just have "QB" stamped on their foreheads, like Jay Cutler (whose decision making is however well below Clausen's).
  4. Clausen is good to go at the next level. Lined up in a pro-style offence with a mostly lousy offensive line (unlike Bradford) and showed near unbelievable decision making and grit. IMO he is the real deal. Doesn't matter. He won't be there at 9.
  5. To me, it depends who that QB is. If Clausen falls to us at #9 (which he won't) I'd jump on it.
  6. Agreed. Who said you can't teach an old dog. I think he has learned a lesson. Looks to me that there has been a sea change. Just my opinion, but I suspect Brandon is a real power broker who has facilitated a lot of this.
  7. Disagree. What's in a name? Sometimes not very much. I'm more interested in solid football professionals and I am sure that there are a number of such individuals operating below the radar screen of public awareness, even relatively informed public awareness. You really have to be close to the game to know who they are, "close" in the sense of working in college and pro football ranks on a daily basis, which even the most avid and knowledgeable fans of course do not. Chan Gailey said his hires would not be headliners, but would be good coaches. We can't know for sure, but he and Buddy Nix probably know better than we do. Some of them by the way come with very respectable credentials, such as the S&C coaches, as does the Asst GM. As for the OC, it was always clear that the offence would be Chan Gailey's brainchild. That is his specialty after all. Probably worth mentioning however that Modkins stint with the Cards cannot be graded as a fail. Looks to me like they finally started to find a running game under him. With respect to Gailey himself, since so much turns on this hire, no one has ever credibly questioned his acumen on the offensive side of the ball, and the Bills are in dire need of improvement there. Doesn"t surprise me that "philosophical differences" with Todd Haley led to his KC departure. Not unusual for the loser of the top job competition to leave the organization. We see it in all walks of life every day. And who is Todd Haley anyway. Maybe Scott Pioli wishes he had gone with his gut and stuck with Chan. Look, only time will tell how all of this will play out, because only time can tell. Call me a crdulous fool if you like but my strong sense of it is that all of the important appointments, beginning with the GM, are very sound football decisions (especially when compared with what we have had to endure in recent years). My gut tells me that in the years to come we will see significant improvements on both sides of the ball to the point where we may eventually again be competitive even in a very tough division.
  8. Great thread. All of the posts have merit, even where they disagree.
  9. No. And I would not necessarily hold it against them even if we failed to have a winning season. A lot has to do with the directions they take in approaching free agency, trading and the draft. If they look to be competitive right away and trade draft choices for someone like Donovan McNabb or pay for proven vets in free agency I would consider their year a failure if they did not at least have a winning record and be in position to earn a playoff bearth towards the end of the year. If they adopt a more patient rebuilding approach a Jauron like record could be quite acceptable provided that it was clear by year end that they were beginning to achieve their goals. In DJs case a losing record was a ceiling. In their case it would have to be a floor. A positive sign in this type of situation would be a young and improving Bills team destroying one or two serious playoff contenders towards the end of the year.
  10. Sad but also true. Hard to understand what happened to him (outside of getting fat, getting lazy and getting most of his money upfront in the form of bonuses and guarantees). Should be a young Steven Jackson. Is miles away from being that kind of back, even if we exclude the passing game (Jackson has great hands, Lynch does not). He is already at a crossroads in his career. Is it really possible that he was in it only for the one contract quick bucks and just doesn't care? Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey will have no patience with this guy if he does not do a 180 degree turn around in attitude and performance and does it fast.
  11. If CG and BN can work some change in attitude and performance fine. If not I hope they kick his ass so hard he flies back to California without a plane.
  12. Chris Chambers NO. Malcolm Floyd ABSOLUTELY. However I also agree with the posters who would like to give our young wideouts and tight end a chance to play.
  13. Ralph Wilson owns the Buffalo Bills. They are his personal property, as most have said. We do not know whether the franchise is seen by him as just another business asset, or as something special. The latter is a possibility, given that his legacy as a great builder/organizer would be better cemented if the team stayed in the place where it originated and his life as owner of this team is after all prominently woven into the fabric of football history. On the other hand, I don't know that you can make a team stay in the same venue permanently anyway, absent community ownership (which only GB seems able to do) so why would Mr. Wilson forego a premium price when his purchaser could realize it? He is a shrewed businessman after all.
  14. Easy to link them. Two storied franchises fallen on hard times led by formerly great men who are now regarded by many as old, mad, blind, despised and dying.
  15. ...except maybe Oakland apparently...forget I said that. Hilarious. Given current events and recent (10 year) history I don't think its illogical to say in the same breath that all NFL coaching jobs are highly coveted, but that Buffalo (and other loser franchises) would likely not be the first choice of anyone with the ability to pick his spot. Someone like that would probably pick the Vikings these days. What happened to your great avatar DC? What was that thing anyway?
  16. I agree. The reporter is just generating copy and probably catering to a widely held, but likely inaccurate view. Buddy Nix is a pretty vibrant 70 year old. Looks to me that he has lots left in the tank. He is 21 years younger than Ralph. He is a seasoned football professional. Chan G is 58 years old. So what?. If age was the only criterion I would rather have that than a 35 year old coach. This HC/GM duo strikes me as a no nonsense back to business combo. Really just an impression but at least its a favourable first impression. Frankly I also like what CG said about finding and developing players and modifying schemes to best suit their abilities (and limitations). Makes perfect sense to me. Don't understand the CG and DJ comparison some guys are posting. Lets be sensible shall we? I doubt very much that anyone could be as bad as DJ was (in so many ways). I am looking forward to seeing what BN and CG can do. I suspect these were both probably good moves that will pay off, maybe even playoff (in the next year or two).
  17. Fair enough. Since he is a good poster best to say nothing I guess and hope he keeps posting.
  18. Agreed. I meant someone like Steve Tasker. Player background, not necessarily active roster.
  19. To me Pittsburgh source makes perfect sense. Is'nt that where Bill would go looking for assistants (Dick Lebeau?).
  20. During the half time show yesterday, and as Cowher was starting the first half summary for the Bills-Indy, Marino started ribbing Cowher about the weather in Buffalo. Cowher said it was great football weather and he loved it etc...James Brown told Marino to behave himself (which I took to mean it had been agreed the subject was not to be discussed publicly, presumably because of ongoing negotiations/discussions. To me, something is definitely up with Cowher and unless he was talking to the Bills just to leverage Houston or Carolina (which likely have fallen through) Cowher may very well be the next coach of the Bills.
  21. Would love to see Kevin Kolb - but we won't. Eagles are sitting pretty at the QB position with DM and KK backing him up. He's under contract next year and I would be amazed if Eagles would entertain any trade offers for him from the Bills.
