  2. Ralph Wilson rips Tim Tebow pick: "Denver panicked" Posted by Michael David Smith on April 23, 2010 3:44 PM ET NFL owners aren't usually in the business of critiquing other teams' draft picks. But Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson ripped the Denver Broncos today for their decision to draft Florida quarterback Tim Tebow. "Denver panicked,'' Wilson said. "He's a good player but we had no interest in taking Tebow. We were not moving up to take Tebow." There was a belief in some quarters that the Broncos picked Tebow where they did in part because the Denver brain trust thought the Bills were looking to move up and take Tebow. But Bills G.M. Buddy Nix said that wasn't true, and now Wilson has said it even more forcefully. Wilson also praised the player the Bills did take, Clemson running back C.J. Spiller. "I think he was the best player in the draft,'' Wilson said. "We've been dull for 10 years . . . no excitement. We've got to create some excitement.'' When it's time to negotiate a contract, Spiller's agent may remind Wilson that he thought Spiller was the best player in the draft.

  4. Filed to ESPN: Bills and Browns have contacted the Rams about trading for the No. 33 pick. Jimmy Clausen, Colt McCoy in play
  5. Donovan McNabb spoke to Andy Reid on Thursday to tell him of his preference to spend this year with Philadelphia, not Oakland or Buffalo. http://twitter.com/ADAM_SCHEFTER
  6. per Jay Glazer on twitter: Been on a plane, landed to this mcnabb mess. Bills and oak shown interest as have 2 others. Have told team no to trade 4 Kolb but will Don. Also, the Rams have NOT offered their 2-rounder and Atogwe
  7. whose to say we aren't calling about Kolb? I'd prefer him given our rebuilding, and would seem to fit Gailey's system... Kolb is an intriguing sleeper at the quarterback position. Despite a phenomenal college career, he is still relatively unknown. That's simply the reality of playing at Houston. But Kolb made himself known to people who matter-such as NFL scouts-with an enormous senior season. Kolb threw 30 touchdowns to just four interceptions in leading Houston to a Liberty Bowl appearance, where he threw for 386 yards and three scores in a loss to South Carolina. That's great production, and Kolb has great potential. He has good size (6-3, 220 pounds) and arm strength and is a surprisingly adept runner considering his size. Kolb is a real threat to beat defenses with both his arm and his legs. Having been a four-year starter for the Cougars, Kolb clearly has necessary experience to step right in and be a serviceable backup. Kolb has to work on his accuracy and holding onto the football. There's also some suspicion that Kolb's results might have been the product of Houston's pass-happy spread offense. He will either be a late day one pick or early day two.
  8. It’s been a torturous couple of months for Texas quarterback Colt McCoy. After leaving the National Championship Game in the first quarter with a pinched nerve in his throwing shoulder, McCoy has yet to perform in front of scouts. He’s expected to perform for the first time this offseason at Texas’ Pro Day on March 31st. And shortly after that, he will take the next step in finding employment in the National Football League. Scout.com has learned that McCoy will travel to Buffalo for a two-day visit with the Bills front office on April 11th and 12th, and then hop on a plane and travel to St. Louis to meet with the Rams brass on April 13th and 14th. The Bills and Rams desperately need to upgrade their quarterback situation, and it appears that the draft is their best option to find a franchise signal caller. The Rams may draft Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford with the No. 1 overall pick, but there’s also a chance that they will pass on Bradford in favor of Nebraska DT Ndamukong Suh. If the Rams decide to select Suh with the top selection, they could use the 33rd overall pick (the first pick in the second round) to select McCoy. The Bills are likely to select an offensive tackle in the first round, possibly Iowa’s Bryan Bulaga, Oklahoma’s Trent Williams or Maryland’s Bruce Campbell. But, the Bills could use the 41st selection in the second frame on the 6-foot-1, 216-pound McCoy. A four-year starter at Texas, McCoy was one of college football’s most accurate and productive performers during his time with the Longhorns. He finished his career completing 70-percent of his passes for 13,253 yards, 112 touchdowns and 45 interceptions. Where McCoy ultimately lands in the draft will be determined by his health and Pro Day performance on March 31st. There are many questions surrounding McCoy; everything from his attributes to his throwing mechanics. But, there’s http://profootball.scout.com/2/954245.html
  9. Kiper's big board as of 2/8 http://www.draftkid.com/melkipersbigboard.htm
  10. Mel Kiper and Todd McShay's Updated Mock Drafts: March 10,2010... Mel Kiper: #1 St. Louis Rams: Sam Bradford QB Oklahoma Kiper: The Rams passed up Matt Ryan for Chris Long and Mark Sanchez for Jason Smith over the last two years, and the results are obvious: they're drafting here. The feeling has changed, and they have a chance to get Bradford, who could have been No. 1 over Matthew Stafford last year. Questions still surround Bradford, but the Rams are now thinking it could be a greater risk not to take a guy like Bradford. #2 Detroit Lions: Ndamokung Suh DT Nebraska Kiper: Detroit has made a pair of moves in the past week to upgrade along the defensive line and adding a player of Suh's caliber here has them in position to make massive strides on the defensive side of the ball in 2010. They can't lose with Suh or McCoy here, but I give the slight edge to Suh. #3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Gerald McCoy DT Oklahoma Kiper: It would be hard to pass up a potential Pro Bowl player, and a guy that many consider the best overall player in the draft, at No. 3. McCoy should provide an immediate upgrade against both the run and as an interior pass-rusher, which will help the secondary in the process. #4 Washington Redskins: Jimmy Clausen QB Notre Dame Kiper: I continue to believe that Clausen will see his stock grow when he is physically ready to perform for NFL personnel people. He has all the tools to become a solid NFL quarterback, and the Redskins both need one, and have a chance to develop him. #5 Kansas City Chiefs: Eric Berry S Tennessee Kiper: The Chiefs will race to the podium when Berry is still there at this position. He's a clear need fit, is exceptional value here, and Berry showed in Indy that his physical capabilities match the outstanding film. The Ed Reed comparisons are legit. #6 Seattle Seahawks: Russell Okung OT Ok. State Kiper: Seattle isn't going to find the heir to Walter Jones anywhere on the virtually empty free agent market, and Okung is an ideal replacement here. I see Okung as a steady player whose stock hasn't slipped all year. A safe, solid pick that directly impacts the team. #7 Cleveland Browns: Jason Pierre-Paul DE/OLB USF Kiper: Pierre-Paul has the chance to be a dynamic star in the NFL if he continues to develop, and would be a dangerous pass-rusher as he is now. With off-the-charts physical skills for his size, he's an exciting talent. I said before he could be the Mario Williams of this draft, and I'll maintain that. #8 Oakland Raiders: Bruce Campbell OT Maryland Kiper: You could see the Raiders taking Trent Williams or Anthony Davis here, but Campbell fits the Al Davis profile. He's a need pick, and maybe a reach, but he's also a stunningly impressive physical package, the tops among all tackles available. Campbell has star talent, but productivity is still a question. In a nutshell: he makes sense in Oakland. #9 Buffalo Bills: Trent Williams OT Oklahoma Kiper: Dez Bryant could be a temptation here, but a versatile talent like Williams -- who has lined up at left and right tackle -- would help the Bills immediately. He aids the run game, and will help whichever QB is taking snaps for the Bills stay upright. #10 Jacksonville Jaguars: Derrick Morgan DE Georgia Tech Kiper: Jacksonville won't stop with the signing of Aaron Kampman, not when they got two sacks out of defensive ends last year. Morgan is great value at No. 10, a remarkably productive and versatile player, and allows them to rotate in Derrick Harvey. Don't forget, it's not just a pass-rush with Morgan -- he's great against the run. #11 Denver Broncos: Dez Bryant WR Oklahoma State Kiper: I had the Broncos taking Dan Williams here until they used free agency to add the likes of Jamal Williams to that interior line. Problem solved. Bryant fills another need, a downfield threat and the top WR available for a team that's likely to lose Brandon Marshall. #12 Miami Dolphins: Dan Williams DT Tennessee #13 San Francisco 49ers: Joe Haden CB Florida #14 Seattle Seahawks: Everson Griffin DE USC #15 New York Giants: Rolando McClain ILB Alabama #16 Tennessee Titans: Sergio Kindle DE/OLB Texas #17 San Francisco 49ers: Mike Iupati G Idaho #18 Pittsburgh Steelers: Anthony Davis OT Rutgers #19 Atlanta Falcons: Brandon Graham DE Michigan #20 Houston Texans: Kyle Wilson CB Boise State #21 Cincinatti Bengals: Arrellious Benn WR Illinois #22 New England Patriots: CJ Spiller RB Clemson #23 Green Bay Packers: Bryan Bulaga OT Iowa #24 Philadelphia Eagles: Maurkice Pouncey G/C Florida #25 Baltimore Ravens: Jermaine Gresham TE Oklahoma #26 Arizona Cardinals: Jerry Hughes DE TCU #27 Dallas Cowboys: Earl Thomas S Texas #28 San Diego Chargers: Terrence Cody DT/BuffetCleaner Alabama #29 New York Jets: Taylor Mays S USC #30 Minnesota Vikings: Devin McCourty CB Rutgers #31 Indianapolis Colts: Brian Price DT UCLA #32 New Orleans: Sean Witherspoon LB Missouri Todd McShay Mock Draft 3.0 #1 St. Louis Rams: Sam Bradford QB Oklahoma McShay: Taking a quarterback at No. 1 overall has proved risky, and adding to the uncertainty are concerns about the spread system in which Bradford played, the fact that he was generally well protected and the shoulder injury that ended his 2009 season. However, Bradford has the accuracy and overall intangibles that NFL starters need, and if his shoulder exams and workouts are satisfactory, we expect him to be the Rams' choice. #2 Detroit Lions: Ndamokung Suh DT Nebraska McShay: Suh might not penetrate opposing backfields as consistently as Gerald McCoy, but he should quickly emerge as a three-down force along the interior. Suh could make the same kind of impact that Albert Haynesworth made in Tennessee when current Lions head coach Jim Schwartz was on the Titans' staff. #3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Gerald McCoy DT Oklahoma McShay: McCoy is the best pass-rushing defensive tackle in this class. His quick first step and relentless pursuit of the quarterback would be a welcome addition to a Buccaneers defense that tied for 26th in the league with just 28 sacks last season. #4 Washington Redskins: Russell Okung OT Ok. State McShay: Bradford would make sense if he's available, but reaching for Jimmy Clausen would be a mistake. If Bradford is off the board, the Redskins would be wise to solidify their offensive line with Okung, who is the top-rated tackle on the board and a player who is ready to step into a starting role immediately. #5 Kansas City Chiefs: Eric Berry S Tennessee McShay: The Chiefs have bigger needs, including offensive tackle, but Berry is clearly the best available player in this scenario. Berry's range and ball skills would significantly upgrade a safety group that comes up short in both areas. #6 Seattle Seahawks: Bryan Bulaga OT Iowa McShay: Bulaga is not a special athlete, but he has enough size, balance and technique to develop into a solid starter in the NFL. Seattle's biggest weakness is at tackle, and it needs to stay ahead of the curve rather than take a chance that another top tackle will be available at No. 14. #7 Cleveland Browns: Joe Haden CB Florida McShay: Haden ran surprisingly slow 40-yard dashes at the combine, but we cannot find any issues with his playing speed on tape. Cleveland could opt for top WR Dez Bryant here, but from a positional value standpoint, we believe the team is better off spending top-seven money on a cornerback. #8 Oakland Raiders: Bruce Campbell OT Maryland McShay: Why not? A fringe first-round prospect on most boards, Campbell was the workout warrior at this year's combine, and Al Davis' obsession with height-weight-speed combos is well-known. Trent Williams would be a better choice but also would be a reach, and Campbell's physical tools are off the charts. #9 Buffalo Bills: Jimmy Clausen QB Notre Dame McShay: We think the Bills should go in a different direction, but they need a long-term answer at quarterback, and Clausen is the second-best prospect in this class. Assuming his surgically repaired toe checks out, he likely will be the pick. #10 Jacksonville Jaguars: Earl Thomas S Texas McShay: The surprise Kampman signing fills a need at defensive end, and although quarterback and outside linebacker are need areas as well, no player at either position would be worth drafting here. An upgrade at safety is needed, too, and Thomas has the instincts, closing burst and ball skills to be a starter from day one. #11 Denver Broncos: Dez Bryant WR Oklahoma State McShay: Marshall is generating interest from other teams and may not be in a Broncos uniform next year. Even if Marshall doesn't leave, the Broncos have to get help at receiver, and Bryant is the best receiver in his class by far. #12 Miami Dolphins: Dan Williams DT Tennessee #13 San Francisco 49ers: Trent Williams OT Oklahoma #14 Seattle Seahawks: CJ Spiller RB Clemson #15 New York Giants: Rolando McClain ILB Alabama #16 Tennessee Titans: Derrick Morgan DE Georgia Tech #17 San Francisco 49ers: Jason Pierre-Paul DE/OLB USF #18 Pittsburgh Steelers: Mike Iupati G Idaho #19 Atlanta Falcons: BEverson Griffin DE USC #20 Houston Texans: Kyle Wilson CB Boise State #21 Cincinatti Bengals: Taylor Mays S USC #22 New England Patriots: Brandon Graham DE Michigan #23 Green Bay Packers: Anthony Davis OT Rutgers #24 Philadelphia Eagles: Sergio Kinkle OLB Texas #25 Baltimore Ravens: Jermaine Gresham TE Oklahoma #26 Arizona Cardinals: Jerry Hughes DE TCU #27 Dallas Cowboys: Charles Brown OT USC #28 San Diego Chargers: Ryan Matthews RB Fresno State #29 New York Jets: Jared Odrick DE Penn State #30 Minnesota Vikings: Brian Price DT UCLA #31 Indianapolis Colts: Maurkice Pouncey C Florida #32 New Orleans: Sean Witherspoon LB Missouri
  11. http://twitter.com/ADAM_SCHEFTER Done deal: Arizona trades WR Anquan Boldin and a 2010 fifth-round pick to Baltimore for Ravens 2010 third- and fourth-round picks. Anquan Boldin agrees to a new four-year, $28 million contract with the Ravens.
  12. A source has told me the Buffalo Bills have held "discussions" with the Philadelphia Eagles regarding a trade for QB Donovan McNabb. No word on whether any offers have been made. Philly Fox station says Eagles will not field "offers" for McNabb. .....but I have confirmed with two sources now that the two teams have talked and there are those on both sides who want to get it done. Re-stating: "discussions" does not mean any "offers" were made from either party...... .....Also, as we know, free agency changes teams needs and wants very quickly. So, this does not mean both teams will continue to talk. http://twitter.com/salsports

  14. To follow up on ESPN's Adam Schefter's report that "multiple teams have called Eagles to inquire about their three QBs," Schefter's colleague Sal Paolantonio discloses the identity of three teams who have had discussions with the Eagles specifically regarding Donovan McNabb - Cleveland, Denver and Buffalo. The Browns will likely be tied to the Eagles because of Andy Reid's close relationship with new president Mike Holmgren and general manager Tom Heckert. Cleveland has Derek Anderson, a Pro Bowl quarterback in the 2007 season who has not been able to duplicate that season's performance, and Brady Quinn, a former first-round pick. The Browns were 5-11 in 2008 as Quinn led the team with 1,339 passing yards, but he threw just eight touchdowns with seven interceptions. Just to note, the Browns have the seventh overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. The Broncos proved how the NFL season is a marathon and not a sprint in 2009. After a 6-0 start, the Broncos missed the playoffs with an 8-8 record. Last off-season, the Broncos traded Jay Cutler for a bevy of draft picks and quarterback Kyle Orton. Orton passed for 3,802 yards with 21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 62.1 percent of his passes in 2009. Denver had the league's 20th-ranked scoring offense in 2009. The Broncos will have either the 10th or 11th overall pick (subject to a coin flip with the Jaguars) in this year's draft. Buffalo is interesting because the Eagles have spent the early portion of their off-season acquiring former Bills coaches in new special teams coordinator Bobby April and senior assistant/defensive backs coach Dick Jauron. Ryan Fitzpatrick and Trent Edwards split the quarterback duties for the 6-10 Bills, who ranked 28th in the league with 16.1 points per game last season. It will certainly be up to new general manager Buddy Nix and head coach Chan Gailey to chart the path for the organization. Buffalo has the ninth overall pick in the draft. http://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2010/2/...abb-cle-den-buf
