  1. I agree with you. Thompsons problem is that his hands are not great. If they were he would have been starting for someone else from the get go. The league teams know all about Thompson trust me. He was ranked ahead of Dez Bryant coming out of HS, was in a big school program and on a national championship team. He's been a pro for years now. Can your hands improve as you move deeper into your career? I tend to doubt that. Either you have good hands or you don't. You don't learn to have good hands. Good hands is something that God personally gifted to people like Cris Carter and Steve Largent. IMO Thompson has no further upside. He's not getting better. Having said that he's still a guy who brings a lot to the table and he deserves his opportunity and I think he will get it. Just not in Buffalo IMO, unless the Bills feel that Goodwin is just too brittle to play football at this level. My impression is that Davis is the guy with the most upside. Got a feeling he could develop into a good outside & vertical guy with playmaking ability and a red zone target - something the Bills could definitely use. Hope he's on the PS if he doesn't make the 53.
  2. Smokin Bert Cooper is dead? Tabloid gutter press bs at its best. Bottom line we got a good young player for nothing. Lol at the Jests.
  3. There is plenty of risk with Cassell. It's just a different type of risk. The Cassell risk is the risk that DBs will be jumping routes all over the place because he lacks arm strength and zip on his short but especially his intermediate throws. Cassell does not make that 15 yard out to Thompson the way Tyrod did.
  4. Tyrod to start. Matt to back him up. If EJ continues to show improvement, he should start ahead of Matt if Tyrod goes down or craps out. Matt is basically a veteran backup if you have anything better to go with. A little risky as a strategy perhaps but with enuf upside to justify it IMO. Must say I've been pleasantly surprised by EJs execution and mechanics. Much better and if he can nail that aspect we know he has the tools.
  5. Yeah and he's addressing it to those teams that might want Thompson but are too far down the list re waivers if he's cut or don't want to compete with other teams to poach if he is on the PS (assuming he's still eligible).
  6. When Rex says he's had calls concerning Thompson but that he's not letting him go for nothing to me he is saying to the league that Thompson is in fact on the block but he wants a player or pick. Bills were not good in the redzone. Davis is a good redzone target, as we have seen - tracks the ball very well and wins the battles for contested balls. Trying to park him on the PS won't work IMO. Same as Thompson, except that Davis is the better prospect.
  7. Yeah we were all holding our breath when he limped off the field.
  8. Like 1/10th of a second faster. Means nothing. Hard to find tape of Goodwin. Too often missing in action. Despite his skill set he's useless unless he can stay healthy and he does not seem to be able to do that. Having said that I dont disagree about Goodwin making the team (tho I fear they may live to regret it and possibly soon enuf). As for Thompson I think they are trying to move him for a player, maybe LB or O-line. One reason they are trying to trade him is because, and I'm going out on a limb here, they have decided, rightly IMO, that Davis is a keeper who makes the final 53. The other reason is that he wouldn't stay there if he made it at all, because somebody would claim him just like the Bills did from the Ravens. And they may also feel that he has earned his opportunity to make a roster somewhere. Davis has decent size and despite his slow 40 is a genuine vertical threat because he gains separation through his breaks and has really good hands. Bills don't have much of that on their roster. Dez Lewis is headed to the PS where he belongs ( I would not be too quick to discount him because he maybe just needs to acclimate to the big stage/step up in competition. We need to be patient with him to reap rewards down the line).
  9. I agree. I think he's the sleeper here. I think we pretty much know what Hogan and Thompson are. I don't dislike Hogan at all but I agree with those who say other guys could actually play the slot better. If Hogan were cut he would be picked up by another team in short order. Thompson has great straightline and even football speed but his hands are definitely suspect. A better comparison by receiver type is Goodwin and Thompson. They are equally fast, neither has great hands, Thompson is bigger and Goodwin is little & brittle.
  10. Yeah I think RG3's inability to escape his personality will be a bigger detriment to his chances than his inability to dodge the pass rush.
  11. Yes he is and does. I would not wish that on EJ tho. He's too good a guy. Horrible ownership there and I think EJ has seen enuf bad coaching. He a fourth round prospect who was drafted in the first. Right now he needs the patient and careful grooming that he should have gotten two years ago. Only then will we know if he's got a future. When he's had a little time this preseason he has occasionally looked every bit the pro pocket passer and he's made some very good throws. I have been skeptical given what I've seen in the past but he has looked better this preseason than I have ever seen him before. I don't know if it will come together for him but if it does he has a chance to be starting calibre. There is after all a reason he was (over) drafted. He is a big horse and he has all the physical tools.
  12. I would keep EJ over RG3, especially now that he is flashing some ability. I cannot believe the tire fire going on in Washington. Gruden is scheming to get RG3 killed. Surprised he hasn't called a naked bootleg ...yet. Just before his presser after RG3, his supposed starter, was concussed he was all smiles. Incredible. Actually doesn't matter tho. Now that his wings have been clipped by injury (predictably), RG3 is done IMO.
  13. Greatest fake heart attack of all time: Earl Weaver in an argument with third base umpire. Fooled the entire stadium and a national TV audience.
  14. I approve this message. Don't know that I believe it tho.
  15. Well he's certainly not off to a good start. My comment was more based on the fact that I have trouble believing he's as deficient as he has appeared and that NFL is really a major step up from the competition he faced in college. So maybe Thompson makes the 53 and Davis the practice squad.
  16. I agree. Thompson is only 1/10th of a second slower than Goodwin, who can't stay healthy, and he's a lot bigger. Davis just looks to be much more talented than Hogan. I'd put Lewis on the practice squad. Coming from a small school the NFL stage looks to be too big for him right now (unlike Davis) but maybe he can develop once he gets acclimated. I think the Bills core WRs are good enuf to maybe roll the dice a bit with less experienced players who doubtless have a lot to learn but who seem to have raw talent and a lot of upside. And they are bargain basement too.
  17. Don't sleep on Andre Davis. To discount him for a slow 40 would be a mistake IMO. I want both him and Thompson to stick, with one (Davis) on the PS. I want Hogan gone. Nothing against him, he's a gamer, but these young ones are just too talented IMO with tons of upside. I expect some interesting play design from Roman to get the best out of Goodwin. But he's got to stay healthy and continue to see the field.
  18. I mostly agree with this. I thought Taylor continued to show that he is capable of moving the team downfield. One thing I did not like was the sack because it showed a total lack of awareness on his part since it was obvious from the alignment where the pressure was coming from (right side of the Brown's line) and he had plenty of room to extend the play by continuing to move naturally to his right. In fact it looked like had he done that the linebacker would have been between a rock and a hard place. What I don't know is whether he stopped because he thought he saw a play developing with a receiver coming open. Even then he has to remember to give himself enuf time to get rid of the ball if he needs to. His pass to Thompson in the endzone was under thrown and could have been picked off by a starting calibre DB (Brown's were thin there because of injury). On the other hand it could have been caught for a TD. I cut Taylor some slack tho because he let it go with the snap, Thompson is a burner and I would imagine they still need to work on timing. Having said that I still would like to see long ball accuracy from Taylor (he has the arm strength). Not saying he can't do it, just need to better see it. He did make an outstanding throw on a line (and catch) to Thompson on an out pattern. He was fine connecting on the short stuff. People keep saying he needs to throw from the pocket. Yes but only if we understand that the pocket for him is not the same place as it is for someone like Brady or Peyton. He's not six foot five. He needs to move to one side or the other to better see the throwing lanes when he has to make reads. Russell Wilson is a pass first guy who can run if he needs to but who makes a lot of his passes outside the pocket narrowly defined. With Roman I think Tyrod will always run more since there will be a number of designed plays for him, but sometimes the pocket will have to move when he is passing. Overall EJ did well IMO. The two endzone tosses to Davis, the PI and the very next one hauled in for a TD were without question both big time starting calibre QB throws. He looked good working the pocket at times and the short stuff, something he's had problems with, was generally on target (except for one throw that wound up in the dirt again in front of an open receiver, a RB I believe). I believe Rex when he says he is going to go with three QBs on the 53. Makes perfect sense to me that he would keep all of his options given that the all important position is somewhat unsettled, regardless of who starts in game one. No question IMO that if he could find some consistency and if the game could slow down for him a bit more EJ would be the starter, but I don't know if he can do that. I've been skeptical of him given the nature of his apparent problems but he's been better, a lot better, on occasion in this preseason than I have seen before. So maybe he's improving. I really like Thompson and Davis. The Bills coaches certainly know better than me, and there are many aspects to playing the WR position at this level that we as fans cannot properly evaluate but I'd almost be in favour of switching Thompson and Davis for the often injured Goodwin and Hogan (who is game to be sure but limited talentwise). I might expect Thompson and Davis to both make the team although with one on the PS. I don't think they are going to move on from Goodwin yet because Roman probably has some good ideas on how to get the most out of him (assuming he can stay healthy). I don't know that Hogan makes it. The young ones are just too talented to be denied IMO.
  19. He's first ballot regardless. He's fighting either because he's innocent or because HE'S A SHAMELESS RAT BASTARD.
  20. When asked by Judge Berman in what order he was submitting his four arguments his reply was apparently that they could be taken in any order since each of them was sufficient to dispose of the case in Brady's Favour. If he really said that the man is an idiot.
  21. Don't know about that. If Rex and Roman succeed in fielding a good ball possession ground and pound offence the D might actually catch a break. Given that the D should be very good regardless, there may be a very productive synergy at play there between both sides of the ball. The O allows your D to rest. The D gives the O lots of good field position. Sorry. Did not see John's post.
  22. I hear you but I'm not sure I agree. If the League were to lose, especially on the issue of bias, giving vindication to and substantiating the player association's vitriolic recent filing, it will be a serious black eye administered in the most high profile and public forum. Sure, you always get points for sticking by your principles and doing what you think is right, but in this case the bad PR from a strongly worded decision against the League would be a colossal embarrassment.
