The Honeymoon Period is Over With The Pegulas

Novice owner's gaffe. But boy it was a doozie - 5yrs fully guaranteed. Sheesh. -
The MMQB: Is Tyrod Taylor "The Guy"?
starrymessenger replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think anyone knows for sure right now, We'll have a much better idea one year from now. -
O'Leary was ok today. Not just the catch (showed "football speed"). He made a good block too.

Around the NFL: Odell Beckhams meltdown

Why so serious? Beating up the best corner in the league (in more ways than one). Don't worry someone will clock him sooner rather than later. -

Unless Boobie is the second coming of Easley on special teams (which I haven't noticed), I too would look to replace Boobie. We haven't seen enuf of Gilislee, but so far he looks like a good # 3, not a main backup to McCoy, and if, as has been suggested, Karlos is not the answer, then we could likely do with an upgrade. But I'm looking forward to seeing more of him in the next three games. As for the Miller comparison, just checkout Miller's TD run versus the Giants with Gillislee's TD run vs Philly. Very similar styles it seems to me. -

You have a point, and if you're right Gillislee is probably not the guy you are looking for as a 1A. But who knows, he might surprise. I would think the next three games are important for him to show what he has. -

No no John. We're not talking about the top 5 franchise running back McCoy. We are talking about Gillislee. And I didn't say that we were weak at the RB position (tho we could use some upgrades if Karlos can't make it thru concussion protocols). Yeah, I really like Miller too. My comment re his being a poor man's Miller has more to do with running style (they are similar IMO) and the different degrees of accomplishment when you compare the two - not just the fact that Gillislee is a 3rd stringer. -

Not unhappy but doesn't look to be more than a poor man's Lamar Miller. -
Pettine: "Wilson not top tier."
starrymessenger replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No doubt Pettine has forgotten more football than I will ever know. But I like Russell Wilson. A lot. So much that I have no problem pairing him with an elite guy like Drew Brees. -
Tyrod Taylor and the Heroic Run to 7-9
starrymessenger replied to UBBullsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Every Sunday we see top shelf QBs do things in the passing game that Tyrod has never done. And it's unfortunately not just the acknowledged franchise guys. It's also the young up and comers, like Bortles, Winston, Mariota, Carr - and it includes someone like Wilson whose attempts have in the past at least been limited, like Tyrod 's. I don't think anyone knows for sure whether Tyrod can elevate his game to bona fide starter level, but it looks like we are going to find out. At the very least he should with the experience he will now be getting develop into good backup/change of pace type guy, which is certainly very nice to have. I just wouldn't be writing any blank checks anytime soon. -
I hate to admit it, but Taylor sucks

He should have kicked Gragg in the stones when he 100% whiffed on Clowney. -

Agree. The question is will we be seeing more and more of his best version - and can his best version also get better? Jury is out. But clearly having some hope is not out of the question, based on what we saw today. -

To me, this is the best Tyrod has looked all year. Looked every bit a legit starting QB. Very encouraging. -
I'm sold on Tyrod as a potentially top shelf backup QB in this league (assuming he can continue to develop and improve his game). That's very much a positive and confirms that he has a valuable role to play. A really good backup/change of pace type guy is extremely valuable to have. Can he become a bona fide franchise guy? Seems unlikely (to me) but if he can that's great. I don't have a problem with him as our starter entering 2016. At least we will all get to have a good hard look at him.

Sean Payton Staying with the Saints

As if he was an asset instead of a liability. I'd be ecstatic if we could just unload Rex and his ridiculous contract on somebody else. -

True, but why would they make such an important decision without the benefit of advice from a wise head. I mean having heard of Rex Ryan just isn't reason enuf. 25 for 5 - are you kidding me? -
Jets Waive OLB Quinton Coples; Claimed by Miami
starrymessenger replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In his rookie year I believe he only started 2 games and wound up with 5.5 sacks and was pretty good vs the run - all with his hands in the dirt. He had 6.5 sacks last year starting something like 15 games, but two came when lined up inside. He's a lot like Mario (though of course not as good) in terms of his preferences re how he lines up. He's a pretty good player and for a team looking to play him in a friendly scheme his coming onto the market like he did represents a bargain opportunity for such a team - subject to the injury concern - he's definitely not worth 7.8 M per, especially if he's not playing. -
The good and bad of Chris Hogan
starrymessenger replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Let's be sensible, shall we? SW was the consensus # 1 WR in his draft class, so the risk of his being a bad wideout is greatly reduced. That doesn't mean that his selection by the Bills shows that they know how to evaluate WRs. To the contrary, the argument is that they essentially lazed out, even before you get into the price they paid, which further substantiates that they really aren't very good at it. How about finding a Marvin Jones in the fifth, a Rueben Randle in the third, Victor Cruz, John Brown, Antonio Brown in the sixth, Martavius Bryant etc... all later in the draft - even before you get into taking Graham just ahead of TY Hilton for example. When Woods fell in the draft they did well to land him in the second. He is a good (not great) wideout. But that's hardly enuf to say they are good at evaluating WRs. They are not. -

Couples is a legit hands in the dirt NFL DE. He's too slow (despite his fast 40) in coverage as an OLB. That (and the injury guarantee) is probably why the Jets sat and then cut him. I'm a little surprised in Rex's interest because it was Rex who moved him out of position in 2013 and Rex, like Bowles, was not happy with the results. -
The good and bad of Chris Hogan
starrymessenger replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's not a bad player and deserves a roster spot. Plus he doesn't break the bank. But lots of other teams ie Pittsburgh, Zona, Cinci etc... seem to find much better WRs to work in his spot later in the draft or even UDFAs. And the Bills always seems to wind up with the lesser lights instead, track guys who are not football players, lacrosse players... Bills are not really very good at scouting and drafting WRs. A bit like QBs, but without the excuse that they are really hard to find. -
An enemies perspective on the game
starrymessenger replied to PatsFanNH's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The team they fielded last night, especially on O, was greatly diminished by injuries. Unless they can sort their O-line and WR issues they are not winning any championship this year, that's for sure. Flip side is that we were still not good enuf to beat them, meaning we have a long way still to go.
