  1. Some here seem to think that if healthy Harvin is legit as a # 1 guy, so why not ask him to assume a low cost, limited and contingent role in the O. To me this distorts the actual profile. No question that earlier in his career he was one of the most dynamic and explosive weapons in the game. While calling him a "gadget player" is probably unfair much of his production was from use otherwise than as a WR. He has never been anything like a true # 1 receiver IMO. Whats more it looks to me, whether as a result of injury or or other reason, he has lost some of his burst and cutting/change of direction ability, which is important because tho he is a burner hes hardly the fastest guy and there are many players just as fast and faster. So as a wideout he was never as good as some people seem to think and hes not as dangerous a weapon now as he has been in the past when looking at his total skill set. And thats before you even get into the possible head case problems and potential negative lockerroom issues. Again, if you dont have to pay him for non-performance the issue is not financial. Its a roster spot and loss of an opportunity to invest in someone who might actually help improve your WR corps moving forward. Instead of dredging up a Percy Harvin how about doing what teams good at finding and developing WRs do, like Zona, Pitt, Cinci etc...Find a John Brown, Martavius Bryant etc...in the draft. Look for good free agents -Cinci have Marvin Jones and Mohamed Sanu as FA in 2016. They are not going to sign or franchise both of them (and probably neither of them will be franchised). Look for promising players late in the draft- someone like Keyarris Garrett of Tulsa - Antonio Brown was a sixth round selection too. Opting instead for Harvin, whose not even sure he wants to play football and has done nothing recently to show he does, is just lazing out and hoping for the best. Its what fraudulent coaches, GMs and organizations do. Heres a thought - lets start doing it right, even if that means doing it the hard way.
  2. If you dont pay him unless he performs you are not at risk financially. What you are at risk for is a roster spot and for the time and opportunity lost in finding someone who might actually help you solidify and stabilize your WR corps. Harvin is not worth that risk IMO.
  3. Draft a WR and find a real #2 in FA (Marvin Jones). Get rid of Hogan and the great Olympian. Dont touch Harvin with a bargepoll. We need fewer (not more) head cases.
  4. Pretty clear to me that Roman does not yet trust Tyrod enuf as a passer to open things up and take more chances and assume more risk (of turnovers).
  5. Bills O needs to diversify for sure, but not abandon the things it has shown promise at doing (basically the running game). Whether the gameplaning and play calling diversify depends on whether Tyrod with the help of the players around him can show the development everybody is calling for. Without Tyrod taking the next step the Bills will become increasingly predictable and easy to defend. In other words, either it gets better or it will probably get much worse.
  6. I think this is likely the way it plays out. I think that record wise the Bills could very well show marginal improvement in 2016 but one year will not be enuf time to completely retool the D to Rex's specifications. The risk may be in the owner misinterpreting marginal improvement as something different from continuing mediocrity and giving Rex even more time (sorta like giving EJ more time). The threshold he should have to meet to keep his job is the playoffs, and frankly I see that as unlikely. Cutting loose from Rex after only one year carries with it reputational risk to the organization as a whole. Rex is probably not the answer but he's not just some newly promoted coordinator about whom the team can say that the job just turned out to be too big for him. Accountability starts at the top, and Pegs being accountable for Rex (ultimately his mistake) probably means giving Rex another year (regardless whether Pegs was poorly advised by people who should have known better). Waiting another year before wiping the slate clean also gives Pegs more time to properly consider the direction he should be going in. As a rookie owner and novice, he's the guy that actually needs time IMO (more so than Rex and Whaley, who have been in their roles as football professionals for a long time). Of course if true it means that next year is also probably a "wasted" year ie no playoffs and a roster still needing some major retooling at the end of it. Sucks but I just think of it for now as phase 1 of the rebuild.
  7. He's bad at drafting for O in general. WRs, O-line. EJ was just the cherry on top.
  8. I would further limit him to scouting players on defence. That's about the right speed IMO.
  9. I like OBJ but when I saw his helmet butt of JN I understood and agreed with the suspension. One game not enuf IMO (even if Norman is a punk too).
  10. His failure to me was a function of an organizational structure that makes no sense. There is a reason why teams operate with a GM. It's his job to find players, through the draft or through trades, and otherwise run the front office and scouting department. He needs to be on the same page with the HC, or at least as far as possible. To me a "football czar" is a temporary hire who analyses the situation, explains it to the owner, makes recommendations on the full gamut of football op issues and questions. Then he goes away and let's the owner make appropriately informed decisions and possibly he continues to advise with respect to implementation. But his job ends there. So I'm fine with a czar coming in and taking a position on whether the current GM should be offered a new contract but I wouldn't see him assuming front office responsibilities. That's what the GM does, whoever he happens to be. I actually thought that's what was in the cards and was reported/speculated.
  11. McCoy has upside. If things ever come together while a Bill and he closes out his career here putting up numbers on a par with his production in Philly, he's a legit Hall of Fame candidate. He could wind up a player as good and as useful as Thurman. Not saying that will happen, but he's probably capable of it. It's not all only up to him.
  12. The buck mostly stops with them to be sure, especially in a financial sense, but honestly they should be able to expect sound advice from their subject matter experts. I can't really blame them for relying on whatever they were told by their adviser(s). That's what they pay them the big bucks for. I feel badly for Pegs who now has a big mess on his hands. He looks like a decent sort and deserved better.
  13. That may be however in my experience good businessmen (of which Pegs is surely one) never take a decision in an area where they are not themselves expert. In fact, they always invariably seek the advice of the most knowledgeable people and insist on having that. Otherwise they would not be good businessmen after all. The suggestion that Pegs was simply simply sucked in by Wrecks after a few hours together seems highly improbable to me, it defies logic, especially when you consider the kind of contract and reporting line Wrecks was given. IMO somebody besides Wrecks sold him to Pegs, someone Pegs relied on. If it was Whaley, that might explain why Pegs now hates him ( if he does). Whoever it was should be hung from a tree with a lit bomb in his mouth.
  14. And now they don't even get along lol.
  15. You're right IMO unless he's legit as a franchise back and you're whole offence basically runs through him.
  16. They may have thought he was a good coach. But he's not. Wonder what idiot was advising Pegs. Or maybe it was just his decision, tho I find that hard to believe.
  17. Well I really can see no reason why a corner, any corner, would like OBJ. He's the best WR in the game.
  18. LeShaun McCoy is a top shelf franchise running back with no dog in him. You may not like the personality but there's nothing wrong with the player.
  19. Well whatever the reason, keeping Rex would be another mistake. The first mistake was hiring him in the first place.
  20. If that's true Wrecks Ryan should be toast. We shall see.
  21. No it's not Promo. His O-line draftees are horrible. The only good wideout is Sammy. But moving up and paying that price shows just how clueless he is. Oh yeah and if not Sammy it's Ebron. CJ Graham befor TY Hilton? Goodwin? Look at teams that know how to evaluate WRs Pitt, big Blue, Zona, Cinci etc... EJ is a monumental gaffe - bad enuf to get a GM fired in and of itself. He's pretty good evaluating defensive talent in the draft but you need a GM to be good on both sides, or at least not terrible.
  22. Whaley is no good at drafting players for the offence. He has not earned a new contract. If Pegs doesn't like him, he just doesn't renew. Getting rid of Rex is a bigger problem. He got Pegs by the short ones. Snake oil salesman and carnival barker. He's good at that tho.
