During the Pats' Reign of Terror there was a lot of chatter about "The Patriot Way."  Supposedly, the Patriot Way was different than "The Process" in Buffalo or any of the other systems and philosophies of team preparation practiced elsewhere in the NFL.  Then Brady left, the rings stopped coming, and nobody talked about the Patriot Way anymore.  In the minds of some fans, the Patriot Way was merely a mirage and Brady was the only actual thing that differentiated the Patriots from the rest of the NFL.

But Edelman recently said something I find interesting:

"I swear if I didn't play New England I'd still be playing because we practice so goddamn hard. That's honestly why I retired: I couldn't practice. I was getting three reps of practice and then I go get in the pool because my knee, you know, like I was fu**ed up...  You build your confidence through practice… [A team that practices hard] is a dying breed and that's why football is getting sloppy."

I think many fans overrate game-time decisions and underrate all the other stuff a coach does to build a winner.  Edelman's quote makes me think about that other stuff and wonder if McD is practicing the optimal amount.

Just look at Belichick's record without Brady. His being the GOAT is a joke.

I think McDermott's practice routine in not a problem. I think he needs to get better with game time decisions. 13 seconds was an absolute blunder. He does seem to learn, so I give him credit for that.

I’m not critiquing his play, I think he’s a wonderful prospect, but this is concerning

Definitely not a good start to his NFL career. Maybe this will wake him up, hopefully. To be honest, I was hoping from the start that the Bills would get Kincaid. I really didn't think that it was possible. Great move by Beane to move up. One day, we might say this was his best trade ever.

Not really. As it pertains to football moves like FA, draft, shaping the roster, coaching hires/fires it's McBeane calling the shots.

    Agreed

Terry's specific words were about improving the management team.

This is going to be a very interesting season.  These management changes with Terry now more involved (I don't see how that's a good thing), people hired that it's questionable what they're backgrounds bring positively to the table, and a coaching staff the top of which that's essentially the Carolina coaching staff from McD's days.

IMO it's either all going to shine or it's all going to flop.

If the latter, Allen of course will cover a multitude of sins.

    Yes, that, A.

B, some of the seeming reasons why they brought in a few of the new people aren't inspiring either.

C, the top of our coaching staff, all the key game day decision-makers, are essentially the coaching staff from Carolina while McD was there.

    Again, concerning.

Not to criticize, but could you explain why this is concerning?

None of the people involved are connected with economic reality of working class America today in my opinion. I am not just talking Buffalo either. The NFL really showed the cities of San Diego and St Louis fans whose boss? Notice San Diego and St Louis are good enough for MLS but not the NFL. Don’t ever let the NFL owners tell you our Buffalo isn’t good enough or a major league city it’s nonsense. Congratulations to San Diego Chargers fans this Thursday you get a San Diego MLS soccer team fingers crossed you will get San Diego State Aztecs football into the PAC 12 Conference. NFL owners that did that to our brother and sister NFL cities should be ashamed of themselves. Buffalo might be joining you in the distant future in MLS when Jerry Jones gets done taking money from Buffalo pushing the Buffalo Bills potentially out of the NFL when Jerry Jones and the other owners can’t suck anymore money out of Buffalo and New York State? The positive at least the new Bills stadium is built for soccer potentially if the Buffalo Bills vacate it in 15 years. Nothing really more to add than that I said my peace with the new Bills stadium, the NFL owners the market place will decide the new Bills stadium fate if it is a huge success or not in my opinion. Go Bills! Let’s Go Buffalo

You must not have heard that Jerry Jones is Immortal. At least he acts as though he is.

    A fair analysis:

Buffalo Bills (Over/Under 10.5): Over with 13 projected wins

Buffalo won 13 games last year but outscored its opponents by a league-high 10.6 points per game. The Bills' three losses came by a combined eight points. On paper, they look just as strong. Still, the schedule's tough in a strong division.

    All teams:

I sure hope they are right. I was hoping for 11 wins looking at the schedule. It's brutal.

On TSW........the offseason IS the season.    I can't believe it's almost over........it went by so fast.    Here are some of my opinions about the best of the offseason TSW 2023

    MVP...... @GunnerBill

Gunner has had another tremendous offseason.   His hard work and attention to detail leads to some of the most informed takes on TSW.   And without a high volume linkster to steal votes I think it would have been something of a landslide.

    Most Improved......... @Logic

I gotta' say his posting has improved immensely, IMO.   I used to say his posting was ironic.........because there was a lot of illogic.........but much improved.

Most interesting offseason turn of events.......Heel turns from @Einstein and @Nextmanup.

Love it.   Heels are the best written characters.   Even though I take great pride in being universally loved here on TSW......I will admit that I have a soft spot for those who can work a crowd.

Most ridiculous idea that is currently or becoming accepted........that drafting a RB in the 1st or 2nd round every 4-5 years is smart because you avoid paying a veteran.

Talk about making no sense.........and yet there are some GM's who actually appear to subscribe to this.   Maybe even our own.  It took far too long for most teams to realize that having high quality individual RB's doesn't correlate at all to winning championships..........and despite the fact that the leading rusher on SB winning teams every year is usually a guy with a paltry amount there are still people who think you want to get a stud RB early in the draft at the expense of all of the harder to fill positions.   It's nuts.   It's like the people who are the last to admit that stud RB's don't make much difference gotta' find some way to still justify the need for quality.  On TSW we still have our irrational 1st round RB fans and nonsense like this being kicked around by people within the league doesn't help bring fans to their senses.

These are just my opinions of course but feel free to share your takes on the offseason.    And remember....... @YoloinOhio departed in-season so in itself that wasn't really an offseason move.   Personally,  I think bellcow linksters are a thing of the past and I support a move to linkster by committee......but I digress......I think we should have these kind of acknowledgements and aspects that tell the story of a TSW offseason.

my take he was in charge of the new stadium "special" project and all the details meetings, politics, etc which came to succesful conclusion so the contract likely  ended July or so...Seems Pegula is doing the same for Bills as he does for Sabres..flattens his org with no management layers at the VP/prez level in which he finds no value and saves exec level big salary...

Vic Carucci said that he played a part in some of the recent contract extensions. Not sure if that matters or not.

    Mitch Morse

Center Mitch Morse has struggled with injuries and has a high salary cap hit. According to reports, the Bills could save $6-7 million in cap space by cutting Morse. He is a reliable center for the Bills, but his $11.3 million salary is a lot to pay for a player who has not been playing at an elite level. According to PFF’s metrics, Morse was the 24th-ranked center in the league and gave up three sacks during the 2022 season  (What the article does not explain is the trash guards Morse has had around him that does severly effect "pff metrics"

    Latavius Murray

Running back Latavius Murray is likewise a cut candidate despite being signed in the offseason. He currently sits third on the pecking order behind James Cook and Damien Harris. Murray has a high salary cap hit of $3.5 million, and the Bills have a crowded backfield. Take note that the Bills typically have four running backs on their roster, but one of those spots went to Taiwan Jones, who primarily played special teams. Latavius Murray has not played much special teams later in his career, so he may not fit that role.

(I can see this happening but they need bodies for camp. And i find that funny considering the next player on the list.)

    Nyheim Hines

If Murray stays, then we think another running back might get cut, and that’s Nyheim Hines. While he is a talented player, Hines is behind Murray on the depth chart as of today. Again, the Bills have a crowded backfield and may need to make some tough decisions about which players to keep. His role on the Buffalo Bills is being questioned, as the team could save $4.8 million by cutting him since he has no guaranteed money in 2023. (I guess they forgot about his contribution's on the special teams... They say we are crowded yet Mims is likely PS candidate that leaves us with 4 RB's  /Last year we had 2 RB's that played special teams, Jones and Hines. )

    Dean Marlowe

Safety Dean Marlowe recently signed a one-year deal to return to the Bills. However, he faces an uphill battle at safety. Recall that the Bills already have Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer, Taylor Rapp, and Damar Hamlin. Marlowe was acquired by the Bills amid Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer’s injury, and he became a starter after Damar Hamlin’s injury in the playoffs. While Marlowe made an impact in the playoffs, he faces tough competition for a roster spot in the crowded secondary. This is the only one that makes sense.

You would think these guys would be talking with people with a little more insight to what is going on then first appearances and pff.

    thoughts?

I'm all for this if it's to make room for a talent like Deandre Hopkins

    Ironic, isn't it?

Allen is #1 in the NFL with 71 consecutive starts.

Justin Herbert has 39, Trevor Lawrence and Pat Mahomes tied for 3rd at 34.

    Rodgers 4th with 25.

Take what you will from this. I want Josh to protect himself more, but I think all the fear mongering "he's about to fall off a cliff the way Cam Newton did!" is wildly overblown by the likes of National pundits like Cowherd and folks on this board.

I want Josh to be a little more careful while still letting Josh be Josh.

I really do enjoy reading their sports coverage, but $28.99 per month? That's just nuts IMO. I was paying $13 per month and was debating it at that price.

Does that seem outrageous to anyone else? I don't have a lot to compare it to.

Meanwhile, new customers get $1 for 26 weeks then renews at $10.99 per month? WTH

If that's the new price, it is outrageous. To be honest, I am having a hard time believing that price.

I think your point is clear.  The issue is, you feel so strongly about something that's impossible to know.  I get that it's your opinion and this is a discussion board but clarifying your thoughts doesn't make it any more plausible.

What do I feel so strongly about that's impossible to know? My entire point was that maybe Diggs might have helped the team in the long run. No, I cannot know this for sure, and I do believe I said that. Where is the confusion?

  12. 12 hours ago, Aimee75 said:

My god, are you kidding? I am legit serious when I ask this, are you really a Bills fan? I really believe there are so many fans of other teams posting here in the guise of Bills fans. Did you see Josh's first six games? He was absolutely in the MVP conversation. The elbow injury hindered things for him. You really don't see that? BTW, he came in 4th in the MVP race, so he was in it the whole time. Again, the elbow injury hurt him a lot.

Too funny you say I am looking at the team through rose colored glasses, when I am here literally saying I am not sure we have enough depth to get past KC and Cincy.

No wait, here is what you REALLY mean. "WhAT IF We dRaFtED MaHOmeS!!!?"

I don't think Josh can do no wrong, but I do side eye people who criticize him to the lengths some do here. I don't see this stuff when I lurk on a Bengals or Chiefs board. It's like some weird form of self loathing. Obviously Josh can clean some things up, but he is often considered QB2 in the league(at the very least toe to toe with Burrow in the rankings), can go match for match with Mahomes. Despite his turnovers, how often does he cost The Bills games? Very rarely. The Bengals game wasn't his greatest, but I would hardly pin that mess on him. Sure, we can play the "but he nearly cost us" game and go on about how we "almost" lost, but you can say that about any QB. I could point out some games where Burrow, Mahomes, Herbert etc "almost lost". It's just silly.

Ask all you want Aimee, I won't re-post things I've already said because you cannot comprehend. Honestly, what a stupid question! And I said you were looking at Josh Allen through rose colored glasses, not the team. Can you even read?

Don't put words in my mouth about Patrick Mahomes. Obviously you are very sensitive about him. I have never wished we had drafted Mahomes. Should they have? That's a whole other conversation. I dare not start one because your love affair for Josh Allen might cause your head to explode. Josh Allen is a great quarterback who has flaws like most.

Sorry, but everything you say screams out, "Josh Allen is God". Again don't compare my point to that of others. Go respond to them, don't take your hate for them out on me. Why would you see criticism of Mahomes on the Chiefs board? He has been to 3 Super Bowls and has won 2 LOL. And as for Burrow, most of the pundits consider him number 2 now. I don't agree, but that's what they say. He has gone to a Super Bowl, unlike Josh, so maybe this is why.

Aimee, as a die-hard Bills fan for many years (just ask my wife and friends), I would never question someone's allegiance to the Bills based on coming in this site and posing a legitimate concern about the Bills or giving an opinion. You are way too thin skinned. Relax and let others have opinions without attacking them. Please don't respond to me anymore.

Josh is an insanely talented QB and we’re beyond lucky to have him on the Bills. He also leads the league in turnovers since 2020 and needs to do a much better job of taking care of the football. Both these things can be true.

    You're right on both counts.

Peyton Mannings arm doesn’t even compare to the rocket 🚀 arm Josh’s Allen has.

Josh has a great arm, but I do think Manning had a pretty good arm when he was young, so I can't agree with you there.

The stat I'm concerned with is how many Super Bowls they win.
