I honestly don’t know how he fell to 59, but I’m glad we were able to capitalize on that and bring him in. I was thinking he’d go around late 30s - early 40s. My other favorite guard out of this years class was Steve Avila (who can play anywhere in the middle of the OL). He’s gonna be a star if he shows up on gameday when it matters.

I actually think we have a solid foundation for the middle of the OL right now. Tackle is where things are getting messy - Dawkins underperformed and Brown needs to make some major improvements quickly to avoid losing his job. McGovern, Morse, and Torrence are going to do well. I think we let Morse walk next year and insert Bates into the staring Center position and it won’t be a major downgrade.

A major investment is needed to keep Josh upright- I’d prefer a known commodity if we can afford it, but we need to draft a Tackle next year early. MLB is the other major position of need but I’d rather get the line figured out first. Best way to win is to score more points, and the best way to do that is to get Josh all the time he needs. Hopefully we get it sorted out and both Dawkins and Brown step up their game. I could see maybe even getting a LT upgrade and moving Dawkins back to RT for a year if needed.

Who would Brown lose his job to? Quessenberry ? If Brown doesn't improve asap, expect Josh Allen to get injured game one.

Yeah, but then you wouldn’t have Kincaid. He jumped Dallas who was salivating at the chance of getting him. Did you see their draft room when we got him? They looked dejected and upset as hell.

I may be wrong here, but i thought he was being funny

    - Dion Dawkins was terrible

    - Spencer Brown was also terrible

    - Teams are going to exploit the middle without Edmunds

    - Ed Oliver was pushed around

    - Poyer looks like he has lost a step. He looks slow

    - I’m concerned about Cook in pass-pro. It was only one play but he got stood straight up and the only thing that saved him was the linemen next to him

    - On the positive side of things, Kincaid is great at using leverage.

    - Torrence was alright

    - Shorter is going to make the roster

I never worry about preseason performances but this game has really put that to the test. The Bills were just brutally bad. Refs were awful too, not to say that is why they lost, but they were bad

I disagree. I think like everyone else now in his 70’s he has slowed down and well perhaps the game passed him by a bit. But his body of work shows he is the GOAT IMO of course.

And you're entitled to that belief. You're a Pats fan, so that's to be expected. I just don't agree.

Confused… how is it bad coaching when your players openly admit they did something stupid and they were even told not to do in the Vegas game? How is it bad coaching when the player doesn’t have common sense to protect the dang ball near the goal line? How is it bad coaching when players are in position but fail to make the tackle?  That’s just poor playing on the players part.

Now last year I was giddy happy they didn’t squeak into the playoffs because that meant he would be forced to remove dumb and dumber from coaching the O. Now that was arrogant on his part.

Now let’s look at Cleveland. He took over a team that was 3-13. His first year improved that to 6-10.. followed by two 7-9 years. Meh at best.. the NEXT year it all came together and they went 11-5 and made the playoffs and won a playoff game!  the next year Modell announced before the season they were moving the team and they fell flat on their face at 5-11.  Most would blame the owner for that but hey BB was the HC and got fired for it.

I also notice you fail to mention he went 11-5 and 3-1 when Brady was unavailable either from injury or suspension.  I was most impressed with the 3-1 as he went 1-1 with a rookie QB  who was not ready for prime time at all.

My point is he is/was a great HC if not the greatest. IMO he is now 70 and he doesn’t have the passion and or stamina for it anymore.

You're making more excuses. Coaches always take the heat when players make mental mistakes or don't execute properly. That is coaching 101, having your players prepared so they don't make those kind of mistakes. My point is not that Belichick is a bad coach. My point is that he's not the GOAT.

I don't think we trade him, but recent events make me wonder. By all reports sounds like Sherfield and Harty are flashing in camp. With Kincaid and Knox we're going to run more 12 personnel than at any point during the Allen era, making WRs more expendable.

And then we sign a recent 2nd round WR in Andy Isabella. I realize he's been a bust thus far, but why would Beane bother bringing him in if he thought our WR corps was set?

And that's where the guesswork comes into play...

I'm sure most view it as Shakir insurance based on his reportedly poor start to camp. I think that'd be financially kinda silly considering Shakir showed some potential in actual NFL games and he's one of only 2 or 3 (if Shorter makes the team) WRs still under contract after 2023.

Gabe Davis will get a contract next season likely (as of this moment at least) in the $10-$15 million range, and I think that's actually below (maybe well below) what he'll actually get. We all know Buffalo’s CAP situation and what we're already gonna be paying Diggs since there's no out on his contract for 3 or 4 years.

$40+ million (conservatively) a year to 2 WRs?

And then there's this from the first few TC practices from Joe B's day 3 report at The Athletic:

Davis targeted minimally the last two practices

Following the Bills’ second day of practice, starting receiver Gabe Davis was quite candid about some of his physical and mental struggles during the 2022 season, stemming from an early-year high ankle sprain that wound up defining his output. He didn’t take the leap many were hoping for, but he remains very well thought of throughout the building. There’s no doubt Davis looks a lot smoother and more explosive on his routes than from when he was injured, but it hasn’t translated to much production through the early portion of camp. Of those 37 Allen pass attempts over the last two practices, Davis was only targeted in team drills twice. Both targets occurred on Friday, and to Davis’ credit, he brought in both for a shorter reception. Over the same span, Diggs (10), Trent Sherfield (6), Knox (5) and Kincaid (3) were all targeted more often by Allen. It could just be the start of camp and a feeling out process with Allen and Davis, or perhaps it’s a continuation of the lower target share Davis accrued during 2022. Either way, all eyes will be on the now-healthy Davis in a contract year.

I know this... we already have a lot of draft capital next year and Beane loves trading up. What do you think Gabe fetches? A 3rd? A 4th? I think we could at least get a 4th for him, which is where he was drafted.

Then Big Baller Beane uses all those draft picks to get our next #1 in waiting in next year's draft...

    Marvin Harrison Jr. anyone????

You're reaching if you think they will get anywhere near Marvin Harrison JR. They would not get what he's worth if they trade him now. Another 4th round pick next year doesn't help them will in 2023

OMG! You sound like one of the talking heads. First who care what he did in Cleveland.. a lot of coaches fail their first try.. without Brady he is roughly .500 BUT if they don’t go SUOER NOVA stupid in Vegas or don’t blow the game against GB or I don’t know stop Buffalo from returning 2 kickoffs for TDs.. he makes the playoffs 2-3 years without Brady and if a certain QB didn’t fumble the ball in 3 separate games on the 2 yard line they make it 3 out of 3 years. My point? With Brady they could survive some

mistakes without they can not.. (mind you last year was on him)

You sound like a homer who cannot see reality. Excuses are for losers. Last time I checked Belichick was the head coach of those teams making those mistakes. Does he take any credit for that? Your last statement even proves my point. With Brady, they win despite bad coaching.

Yeah, nobody would trade a 1st round pick for the best DT in the league in the prime of his career.

Cheifs should just give him to us for a 5th...

Now you're putting words in my mouth. I didn't say they get a 5th for him. Don't be ridiculous. My point is this: Anyone who traded for him would have to give him a huge new contract as well. No team on the rebuild would trade a first for a 29 year old DT and take on that contract. It would only stagnate their growth, as he would be gone by the time they are good enough to compete. That early pick can be used on a player who will be under a rookie deal for 3- 5 years. Also, he's not the best DT in the league. Maybe a contender would offer a first, but at what cost? Would KC trade him to a contender? His only leverage is to hold out knowing this is his last chance at a big payday. If he plays, he risks injury and getting slapped with the franchise tag next year.

If the Pats and Bill do part ways and McDermott has another disappointing end to the season, then let the Bill to Bills rumors heat up. Bill + Josh = Super Bowl championship in WNY. Like you said when Bill has an elite level franchise QB he wins big time.

Do you really think that some other good coach couldn't have achieved the same results with Brady?

  11. Is Belichick a good coach, yes. Is he this Goat that so many have bestowed on him? No!! Look at his record without Brady. Look at his record before coming to New England. The media has designated this crown on him and for what? Winning with the Goat, Brady. Brady goes to Tampa and wins a Super Bowl, while the Pats sink into mediocrity. How can he be called the greatest coach ever now? He cannot!!!

Bradley Chubb fetched a first rounder and Chris Jones is better than him.  It’s multiple firsts where GM’s rightly become hesitant.

Good point, but I would add that Chubb is 27 and Jones is 29. This will be the last big contract for Jones. Maybe a team gives a number 1 for Jones if they think he puts them over the hump. I don't think any team who's likely to pick high will give up a number one for a 29 year old DE.

Diggs wants a Super Bowl ring, badly. He hates losing. Nothing wrong with that.

Stefon's frustrations over the way these last 2 seasons ended would be no different than my own (minus the cryptic tweets). We had more than enough talent to win at least 1 SB.  21 ended with terrible coaching. 22 ended with an emotionally exhausted team.  This first window is not staying open forever.

Why do people say that Mahomes could win many more Super Bowls, and that the Bills window is closing? As long as they have Josh Allen, the window is open.

Mostly known for the insane heat the game featured, I decided to take a closer look as the 2023 season fast approaches. There has been much talk about McD taking over the defensive playcalling this year and how he will hopefully improve on Frazier's soft tendencies. I don't know how this will turn out, but the Week 3 game against the Dolphins revealed yet another example of Leslie playing it conservative in crunch time.

The situation: Miami faces a 3rd and 22 from around midfield with the Bills leading by 3 early in the 4th. Buffalo had aggressively stuffed the Dolphins to put them in what should have been a hopeless situation to convert. But rather than continuing to bring the heat against a subpar Miami OL (and with an obviously concussed Tua), Frazier elects to run a 3 man rush and our decimated secondary (missing all 4 nominal starters) gives up an easy bomb to Waddle inside the 5 resulting in the Dolphins taking the lead.

We all have our complaints as fans, many of them right and plenty wrong. But one thing I am optimistic about going into the 2023 season is the possibility of the Bills becoming an attacking defense. I'm OK with them giving up more yards and even a few more PPG if we can make more impact plays defensively. With Josh in his prime, we should always have an above average scoring offense. The complementary aspect of the game and making a few more critical, game changing plays each Sunday could pay far more dividends than the what the traditional statistical rankings imply.

I like your post. I hate the 3 man rush. I think it's a stupid play.

looks like he restructured and added voidable years so it required agent/player and team renegotiation.

That was the time to address his perceived salary underpaid issue. Or he should have not agreed to the restructure. His agent blew it.

He gets paid plenty for his output. Not NFL fault as players become FA and reset market higher.

The only way a guy at his age can get a contract that is commensurate to his ability at his age is to force the issue. Maybe you're right that his agent blew it, but this league also gives way too much leverage to the owners. The only way a player can get paid is to threaten the team sometimes. I don't like it when it's one of the players on my team, but it's just a reality in the NFL. Players at certain positions have little leverage other than to threaten to sit.

Josh Allen is the second best QB ranked presumably behind Mahomes but still they don't see him as a top 10 player 🤯

Diggs is the 5 best receiver ranked.

PFF is a joke. Look at the 11 players ranked ahead of Allen. If a GM was starting a team I see only 2 players who might be picked ahead of Allen. Honestly, I don't know why I'm commenting on this at all. These "experts" ranking players is a joke. I don't usually pay any attention to any of it.

Sorry, but Vince Lombardi isn't winning any Super Bowls with that New England roster.

People are obsessed with trying to give either Brady or BB credit for the Dynasty. BB knew how to put his teams in the best positions to win games. Sometimes in doing so he would absolutely cross the line. His strength in coaching was attention to detail and managing egos. He might have been the best ego manager in the history on the NFL. Almost a 20 year run of winning or threatening to win the SB. Unheard of before or since.

Now that Brady is gone, he is basically maxed out at a wild card. Take away Mahomes or Allen and you aren't going to see a much different outcome. You need good players to win. Great players to win it all. A coach is not going to be able to do it alone. Not close. That doesn't discredit him as an integral part of that run. If it was almost anybody else coaching that team it would have been about a 5 year run like most dynasty's. He is the reason it was 20 years.

I'm going to go hang with my dad now

    Sincerely,

    Stevie

Without a good lineup (Brady, etal), he can't win. So he's no Goat. I think many coaches would have done just as well or better with Brady and that lineup. You believe no one else could have done it. I disagree. We're both entitled to our opinions. We will never know. Besides, I admit I am a bit biased against him ever since he was caught cheating. Maybe cheating makes him a good coach, I don't know. He looks pretty average now.
