  1. Agree. Gugs. I was hoping they would land Senga. I hope he assimilates well to the majors. As I said before, I think he could be a decent reliever, if he doesn't do so well in the middle/backend of the rotation. I liked Bassitt but he left a sour taste in my mouth at the end of the season and, based on some of his comments, I don't think he was made for the pressure of NYC. He had some thinly-veiled excuses for his performance down the stretch. Out with the old, in with the new. LGM!
  2. So you are sick of people asking you stupid questions but you are perfectly fine asking them yourself. You should work in media. LFGM!
  3. Is this a euphemism? Maybe try laying up once in a while rather than driving for the green every time. 😇
  4. Depends. Is it powdered? (Take on an old Steven Wright bit)
  5. Are you a Mets fan? I noticed that your avatar is of 'Mr. Met'.
  6. How do you imagine you'd feel if the Bills were 9-4, a game behind the Chiefs and in a dead heat with the Bengals and a date in Cincy still on deck? How do you imagine the fans of the rest of the teams in the AFC feel after the Bills 'only' beat the playoff contending Jets by 8 points and nearly ended their QB? A little perspective is in order here. Everyone else in the conference is still chasing the Bills, warts and all.
  7. You are full or yourself today... KRAP?
  8. This guy might have a future in the porn industry...
  9. I said during last season that I wanted Nimmo re-signed. I love him as a player but am shocked that he got $162 million. I thought anything over $125 million for him would be a stretch. Boras is a wizard. Thrilled with the Robertson signing. I wanted him last year and believe he could have made a real difference for them last season. My only worry at this point is that this team still does not have enough punch/power in the lineup. If Alvarez and Baty don't mature quickly during the season, this team could be royally screwed.
  10. Everything I've heard so far is that interest in Syndergaard around MLB has been lukewarm. A lot of teams are apparently wary of his declining analytics. It will be interesting to see what he gets. With the shortage of arms, someone will take a chance on him. Like Gugs said, Atlanta will be fine. Frustratingly, they are constantly able to make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t to go with all of the elite talent they churn out non-stop. They are a model franchise, unfortunately.
  11. Seems that way. I feel about Quintana the way I did Walker. Like him okay, not 'over the moon' happy. I guess that's the feeling you get with a middle or back end of the rotation guy. You just hope they stay healthy and can give you some quality starts. FYI, I was not happy that they let Wheeler walk a few years ago and thought he should have been retained. I stand by that still. He wasn't super expensive and wanted to stay with the Mets but the penny-pinching crooks who are the Coupon family had other ideas. Glad those sh*theads are in the rearview mirror.
  12. Be still my beating heart. Please make it so. That would be a sweet parting gift from Jake. @Another Fan Like him or hate him, another starter has been inked, fellas. Mets get the lefty, Quintana, on a 2-year, $26 million deal. Pitchers are starting to ink deals left and right. Not happy that Walker chose to go to Philly but whatever. The Judge overpayment by the Skanks may finally open the spending floodgates. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/35203380/sources-mets-fill-rotation-need-lefty-jose-quintana
  13. OF Bryan Reynolds. Good young player with a few years of control left so he would not come cheaply and there are reportedly no shortage of suitors. He has a low salary with controllable years so the Pirates will not deal him unless they get several really good prospects in return. He's not in a walk year so they don't have to just take what they can get. If somebody wants him, they are going to have to make it more than worth Pittsburgh's while.
  14. Right now they have an old, incomplete rotation, no bullpen outside of Diaz, a huge hole at catcher (can't count on Alvarez coming in and setting the world on fire as a rook), and no power outside of Alonso (and somewhat Lindor). They have a ton of work to do (and money they will have to spend) but, currently, my expectations as compared to last year are nonexistent. Even with the Verlander signing, I am not excited yet for 2023. FYI...useless tidbit...Verlander is from the Richmond area and pitched his high school ball one county over from where I live.
  15. If Scherzer &/or Verlander end up shelved at one or more points during the season (very possible, given their ages), that is a rotation that will be looking up in the standings at Atlanta & Philly. <shudders>
  16. Someone should ask them how they would like to play three games in eleven days...with very little practice time...and a QB at less than 100%...all on the road (short flights or not). F them.
  17. Until it's reported that Rodon has actually signed somewhere, the ship is still anchored. Although I believe he is a Bor-ass client which never gives me a warm and fuzzy.
  18. @Gugny @SinceThe70s @Another Fan Verlander inking two year deal with the Mets! (Gimme Rodon, too)
  19. They are. It was reported somewhere (heard on the radio maybe?) last week.
  20. Ha! 25 years since I've been there, too. August of 1997. There were sacks though, right?
  21. @Gugny @SinceThe70s Regarding the bolded: 1) He's a southern guy and I don't think he was very enamored with the bright lights of NYC and the enormous media presence. 2) No state income taxes. 3) Supposedly wanted a place with lots of land to raise his kids (see #1 above). 4) Nobody else was likely giving him 4 years let alone the 5 years he got. All that said, I was surprised that he accepted an annual AAV of $37 million ($185 million for 5 years). Speculation was that he wanted Scherzer-type money. I'd be willing to bet that the Mets would have given him 2 years at slightly more than Scherzer but I guess we'll never know. My first reaction when I saw the numbers was, "That's all he got?" and was pretty indifferent about him leaving which surprised me. I was like "Oh, well" and matter-of-factly told my younger son (also a diehard Met fan), "deGrom just signed with Texas". He pretty much had the same reaction as me. I think we were both kind of expecting it and had he been healthy this whole time, it would have been much more devastating like losing Seaver. I wish him well and am glad he's with a team that is 'out of sight, out of mind'. He may stay healthy and slay it with the Rangers but that's how it goes. I'm tired of watching seemingly every high dollar Met signing turn out to be a tire fire. Time to turn the page and, honestly, when I heard that he never even gave the Mets a chance to match, I knew it was good that he left because his heart was obviously not in NY. Unhappy, oft-injured, and highly paid is a recipe for disaster. Sucks to lose a homegrown lifer but that's the impersonal, business side of sports. Get to work on this Swiss cheese lineup, Eppler. FYI, I don't know much about the Texas Rangers either but I do have one semi-connection. I personally know the #25 prospect in their organization, RHP Zak Kent. I haven't seen him since he was a kid in high school but used to see him at family events. I did see him pitch once in Richmond against my alma mater, VCU, when he was at VMI (Virginia Military Institute). He is my wife's brother's nephew (by marriage). Connection = My wife > my wife's brother > his wife > his wife's sister's son. Confused yet? Convoluted, I know. lol https://www.mlb.com/prospects/rangers/
  22. Robert James. Ironically, a knee injury in the '70s ended his career way too soon. Tre is lucky to be playing in the era that he is or he may have suffered a similar fate.
  23. The bolded for sure. The Bills would be choice number one for me but I need a title from one of my faves. I'm also a long-suffering Sabres fan. Since their inception 1970, my teams are 0-2 in Stanley Cups, 0-4 in Super Bowls, and 1-3 in World Series. 1-9 in fifty plus years of fandom is beyond cruel. Throw in the fact that my NBA team was stolen as a kid (Buffalo Braves) and it's been a brutal run. I must have been a real POS in a former life <sigh>
