  1. What I suspect will happen is that Beane will package this years's first rounder, the second rounder next year we got for Diggs (the pick is from the Vikes who will likely suck so it will be nearly a first rounder) plus Elam, to get high enough to replace Diggs with the guy Beane really wants. That would be almost three first rounders to move up to maybe the mid-teens in the first round. I think if Beane has a trade partner ready to take that deal, he'll wait to see if the player he wants is available, and then he'll pull the string.
  2. None of us who realize there are two Josh Allens playing would be worried about it. It's interesting that LB Josh Allen isn't very far behind QB Josh Allen in annual salary. But QB Josh Allen will likely have a much longer career. LB s wear out quicker.
  3. This year the women's tournament was better than the men's. But come on, neither one compared at all to the Super Bowl.
  4. The most dominant WR in Bills history was Andre Reed. (How old are you anyway to say Diggs was better?) Diggs was excellent too but for only four seasons, but he's the best 14 on the Bills. I'd love to say Reich but he was actually a backup, a good one, but not even a starter. And Fitz was the guy we had to replace to get to the playoffs.
  5. The one thing the Buffalo media were wrong about wrt Diggs was that they said over and over he couldn't be traded because of the cap hit. Well, that was a sensible opinion but it was wrong.
  6. Beane assembled the team that was poised to win the Super Bowl in the 13 seconds season. It isn't his fault the coaches choked. And that team was not built at the expense of the future. There were very few expensive rental players, people whose contracts stuck around long after they left. The only real exception to that rule was the Von Miller signing, which McDermott insisted on because of, you guessed it, the 13 second debacle, where McD implied the reason for the loss was the lack of a pass rushing closer. It's very common in today's NFL for mediocre teams to bump along season after season, occasionally making the playoffs but not going very far, and then slipping back into mediocrity. Beane has kept the Bills in a position to win, year after year. This past year, when the Bills got the #2 seed in the AFC, was actually a down year. Think about that and then try to recall the drought years. Did you forget Kincaid? And really we can't compare the 2024 roster to any others, until we see what the 2024 roster actually turns out to be.
  7. As for trading Diggs, we like to think he's still 2022 or 2021 Diggs, but he's not that guy anymore, and next year he won't even be 2024 Diggs. Beane does have a heart but he's also a calculating and farsighted planner.
  8. Absolutely not. We should never again use two first round picks for any player except Josh's eventual replacement, ten years from now. But what COULD happen is Beane using this year's first, and the 2025 second he got for Diggs, to move up. This would mean basically trading Diggs to select a better Diggs replacement than he would have received before the trade. But as the OP said it would take a lot of breaks from other teams to leave a top WR available in a spot Beane could reach.
  9. I could kinda sorta get behind this trade if it came with a pick in this year's draft, when there are all those good receivers to be had. But not until next year? Boy this year is going to be a struggle.
  10. I haven't seen any of the Josh hate you referred to, but last season was not a good one for Josh. True, he had some great games, particularly late in the season, but early on, he had some real stinkers. Since the Bills were on national TV so often, people saw those early games and put Josh into the reject category, and there he stayed the rest of the season despite his great play later. As others have said, he needs to be more consistent when the plays are there to be made, and still be the wrecking ball we know he can be, when the situation calls for it.
  11. Singletary played well for the Texans but not so well that they kept him around. He's with the Jersey Giants now.
  12. Yes to both. I'm sure his family encouraged him to retire. Nothing left to prove, and he should have made enough money to support his family for many years.
  13. Considering all the personnel losses on both the Bills and the Dolphins, I think the Bills still shape up as the better of the two. But the Jets seem to be doing the right things to build up their roster, so I would rate the chances of the Bills winning the AFCE at 80%. Not a sure thing, but very likely. But getting to the SB with all these key losses? Not likely at all. Right now I'd guess the Ravens, Texans, Bengals and oh yeah the Chiefs all look better, overall.
  14. I understand his parents had to be a little careful about choosing his first name. They're on thin ice with the choice they made, but at least they didn't go with Richard. Dick Clapp would have been unbearable. Well, we got a draft pick for Bates and Clapp came for free (wrt the draft). Also it was pretty clear that Bates wanted a chance to start somewhere, so the Bills tried to help him out by trading him. In the long run, we might miss Bates, but by this point we already knew what Bates is and isn't. For sure he's not Wyatt Teller.
  15. Huge tackles are great if they're attacking you. Quick edge rushers can beat them by not getting attacked.
  16. I have assumed since the Morse release that this is what Beane's plan is. I think (actually I hope) that Beane was just throwing a little shade on his plans with the McGovern talk. A great center is a solid investment for a decade. WRs come and go much more quickly.
  17. During the video they showed the season records for all the AFL teams. The Bills had the best followed by Boston. San Diego did not have an outstanding record, and should not have been a threat to the Bills. But the Chargers scored on four plays on their first possession and could have possibly won, if Stratton hadn't broken Lincoln's ribs with an absolutely perfect tackie. The muddy field, the red striped shirts for the refs, the goal posts on the goal line, and none of the formations or disguised defenses we have today. It was really a different game. Also the Bills defense was incredible. The front four all were great, Maguire and Tracy at LB, and ball-hawking DBs. What a team. I don't think anyone tracked red zone proficiency back then, but the Bills sure didn't capitalize when they had the ball down close. Cookie was a monster. It's a shame they traded him after this game, but the Bills still won in 65 without him.
  18. Reminds me of Thurman Thomas signing with the Dolphins for a season after he (and Bruce and Andre) were all cut on the same day. A little of it was spite and wounded pride, and more of it was a desire to show the league he still Had It (but he didn't). In Poyer's case, I think it's likely that his wife talked him into taking the Miami gig so she could work on her tan more months of the year. Plus the club scene. Both players were outstanding Bills and should be thanked for their years of service. It will seem strange to see Poyer lining up in those party costume uniforms but I won't hold it against him.
  19. So Singletary and Moss are both getting paid. Good for them. I like Cook better but we have had some talent working for us.
  20. First of all Bowers won't be available when we pick, so no. Second, there are too many other positions of need, so no. Third, it would not be fair to DK1 or DK2 to make either of them sit and watch a rookie playing their position. Both DKs are really good, DK2 having the edge over DK1. So no.
  21. Tomlin has the remarkable achievement of never having a losing season which also means the Steelers never have a draft position to pick a great QB. Wilson is the wrong guy. He'll help the Steelers win enough games to avoid a great draft slot, but not to win enough games or be good enough overall to win in the playoffs. Also this move will cause a QB controversy in Pittsburgh, never a good thing for team unity. Since Denver is on the hook for all of Wilson's salary minus whatever he gets from his new team, it would have been great for some team with a clear #1 to sign Wilson to a backup contract. But Wilson doesn't want to be a backup. If he signed in Pittsburgh he must feel pretty sure he can beat out Pickett.
  22. I'm not convinced at all that the Bills will go with a guard playing center. They might draft one but I think it's more likely they'll sign a FA. Or that Morse comes back for a lower salary.
