Buddy Nix and addressing the QB position
CodeMonkey replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. You make an educated guess and hope for the best. Now not recognizing that Fitz was not the man so many years into his career is another story altogether. -
Seau brain was damaged (CTE), family sues NFL
CodeMonkey replied to dayman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
North first then (maybe) south. Football is ubiquitous in Texas and several other southern states. Whole towns empty out to go to high school football games some places. Up where I am you see parents and girlfriends in the stands and not many others. -
Bills QB Situation. Time for a Reality Check
CodeMonkey replied to Dr. Trooth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I am the agent of a FA QB and I am afraid that on a team with a completely new coaching staff that Ryan Fitzpatrick is going to beat out my guy, then I am representing a backup QB at best. -
NFL threatens man who trademarked "Harbowl" last year

Given the game attendance I think the majority of people agree with you. -

If this article is true, then the number of kids playing football is already starting to decline. http://askcoachwolff.com/2012/08/12/dangers-of-concussions-new-numbers-suggest-fewer-kids-playing-tackle-football/ -

Seau brain was damaged (CTE), family sues NFL

From damage sustained as a kid playing football perhaps? I'm not saying the players are blameless mind you. But if the NFL withheld information from players about the dangers then they are culpable as well in my opinion. -

Or, he cared so much about wanting to play football at the highest possible level that he chose to do steroids (assuming he did). Even if what you say is true. The does not excuse the NFL. Problem with that is now the flood gates open for the family of every ex football player with a lawyer looking to get paid. -
Nix missing the boat with LB talk?

Or the Buffalo Bills. -
I tend to agree with you. But I believe Brandon opened up the can of worms with his "no stone unturned" comment. Would have been better off keeping his mouth shut. But what marketing guy can do that?

It usually is. But the choice is to play football and take the risk, or not to play (or be a kicker I guess). The problem is that decision generally comes at a very young age and is driven not by the kids themselves, but by their parents. By the time they hit high school they continue to play because that's what they have done their entire lives up to that point. The NFL is trying to do something about it now. But without game altering rule changes nothing is going to help very much, My sons both asked to play when they were young. Mainly because of watching the Bills games with me. They were never allowed to. They did not like it at the time, but they are getting old enough now to understand the reasoning behind the decision and are grateful for it. -
Russ Brandon at the Senior Bowl

If Brandon has been telling the truth, then it will be who the dominant GM wants, whoever that is at the time of the draft. -
Russ Brandon at the Senior Bowl

Why is he there? Because it is -13 wind chill where he lives and he can be there, that's why. Hell, I'd be there too if the Bills were footing the bill. -

Bill Cowher dipping Skoal on set
CodeMonkey replied to justnzane's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I imagine the skol tin was simply an oversight. But it would not surprise me if some group made a big deal about it. There really is no reason for the incidental swearing though. I mean if a local radio show can afford the equipment to run on a 5 second delay and dump any accidental language, I suspect the major networks could manage to do it too. In fact there were a couple occasions yesterday where players (I assume) voices came through loud and clear with "are you kidding me" type remarks. Easily could have had the F bomb in there -
The Bills coaching carousel the past 13 years does not give me any confidence in Russ's ability to know the right guy to turn the team around if he bit him on the ass. But 100% new staff and one would assume a rookie QB so I guess they get a pass next year. So once again we will see in 2 or 3 years if both Marrone and his hiring of his buddies works out. FWIW I like the Jets D coaching hires and I also feel like the sun just might rise tomorrow, or at least next season. But maybe it's just the Pats getting their asses handed to them yesterday putting me in a good mood

The only difference between that and stomping on someone is the direction of the leg movement.
-
Very easy to reconcile. He may have wanted Whiz, but he isn't skeptical because the Bills chose someone else. He is skeptical because of the haste in which the coach [and his staff] was chosen when the decree from OBD was "leave no stone unturned", and the apparent "hands off" stance the Bills are currently in regarding the coaching staff. I am also skeptical, but hopeful. But honestly I don't see a lot to get excited about at this point.
-
I do not remember any negative comments about Gailey at the time. It was all "endorsed by Cowher" or "Jerrahs biggest mistake". With Marrone what I am seeing is that he is young and hungry and that most, if not all, of the other teams were interested as well. And as far as player endorsements go, how many Bills players spoke out negatively about Gailey even at the end? Few players would regardless of who the coach is, and rightly so. Don't get me wrong, I expect Marrone to end up being an upgrade over Gailey. But I'm not ready to trade in my "wait and see" mindset for a big glass of koolaid just yet.
-
As with the Gailey hire.
-
I see the current situation as no different than it was 3 years ago. Hardcore koolaid drinkers loving the Gailey hire and were thinking superbowl. Hardcore haters cursing OBD for committing such a heinous hire. And the rest scratching their heads a little and hoping for the best. I was scratching my head then and now, not so much over the Marrone hiring as much as the majority of the rest of the hires and the timing of them, and am still hoping for the best. We will see.

Could Tarvaris Jackson become our starting QB?
CodeMonkey replied to mitchmurraydowntown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It became a 7th because it was conditional. But the situation still remains that with a 7th you may get a starter (see Marcia Brady), or at the very least get some depth and/or a ST player. Nix brought in TJax for one year for the pick, paid him pretty damn well considering, and he was a healthy scratch for every game he was a Buffalo Bill. I wish someone would give me $1Mil+ for doing absolutely nothing. I think that Nix in general has been OK as a GM, but the whole TJax thing was brain dead on his part.
