DeadSpin - Convo Between Nix and Tampa GM
CodeMonkey replied to Jauronimo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. But I also don't expect him to make statements about Fitz, you know the QB of the future last year, like he did either. Suicide for trying to sign quality FA's you mean? Maybe, but that remains to be seen. -

So the Bills GM gets a private phone conversation recorded by a couple kids who weren't initially even trying to record it. And during this conversation he not only says that he has no idea what he is going to do about the teams QB situation, but that he doesn't know what he will do about his current QB that he gave a big contract to last year and who will be fighting for the backup position this coming season. And all of this happens right before the Bills go out and try to sign free agents that presumably will be getting offers from other teams as well. Yup that is definitely a win for sure. -

I still contend that they fell into nothing. Targeted acquisition. -

Hmmmm yes, maybe Buddy is using his often touted misinformation techniques (touted here anyway) in this case again. Maybe Buddy knew he was being recorded when he said that about Fitz and it's all just a clever ploy to get Fitz to take less pay! -
Bills, Fitzpatrick inch toward $3 million decision

The discernible benefit is cash now and cap space in 2014. Whether or not that is enough benefit is up to personal opinion. -

Well all of Fitz's experience tends to show that he has no upside. So maybe if you know for a fact that Fitz is not the answer you give TJAX a shot? At this point what have they got to lose. Plus cutting Fitz now saves cap space in 2014 and real money now. Basically there are no good answers I guess. Just differing degrees of ****ty ones. -
Depends on the cable company, but sat TV is not the highest-tech provider. Fiber like FIOS is the future in my opinion. Far more bandwidth than sat will probably ever have, bi-directional communications possible for things like interactive TV, and you can bundle internet and phone with it like cable does today. Unfortunately the rollout takes a long time due to logistical issues, but it is in progress.

I hadn't realized keeping his contract had 2014 cap implications. That certainly complicates things now doesn't it.. Buddy really did screw the pooch didn't he.

That assumes that there are an awful lot of DTV subscribers that subscribe only to get the ticket. Maybe that's true. But if DTV does not renew it's exclusive contract (in the US) it will be because they looked at the numbers and it did not work out in their favor. I don't know what DTV pays the NFL for the US exclusive rights, but it must be a monstrously big number.
-
For a while they were giving the ticket free to any new subscriber. Plus anyone who called got the price reduced. I'm not surprised they aren't making money on it. In fact I'd be surprised if they weren't losing money on it. I know one person who has directTV because of the ticket. He and his wife are avid football fans and they live in the primary market for neither of their favorite teams. I think it would be better for the NFL and all the providers if it was non-exclusive like the other sports packages. They could put each game up on pay-per-view if they wanted to as well for people who only care about one team. Lots of possibilities.

I agree with you. If cutting Fitz freed a bunch of cap space then maybe. But freeing no cap space and at the same time creating another position to fill tells me Fitz is on the team restructure or not. And you know as much as anyone else here.
-
If the contract stands pat and Fitz stays on the team, cap room is unchanged but the Bills have one less player to sign and the Bills shell out the $7.5 mil in cash money. That would seem a better option for the Bills (and obviously Fitz, but maybe not Mr. Wilson) than cutting Fitz and having to sign yet another additional player without netting any cap space. Maybe team Fitz is seeing this as the desired outcome and think they have Nix between a rock and a hard place..
-
Why in the world would Fitz take a pay cut. Would you? A Marcia type restructure for no less money, sure. But if Nix is asking Fitz to voluntarily take less money and Fitz does not want to, that isn't being a prick. That's being a businessman. Nix can always cut him and pay the guarantee. No one held a gun to Nix's head. He made his own bed and now has to sleep in it..

I disagree to a point. Nelson was decent with the Bills. Chances are high that he would be better in a pats* offense. Normally I would be happy for him, but the Bills play the pats* twice every season, and if the Bills LBs suck again next year I would hate for Nelson to light up the scoreboard those 2 games.
-
I see your point. But in this case what exactly is the devil he knows? I believe this is his third HC, a completely new coaching staff, a change in ownership imminent, and rumors at the very least of yet another GM. The only consistency seems to be the hideous records of the team for the past 13 years.

I suspect the two happiest people in the world to hear that Byrd got tagged were Levitre and his agent. Now he is free to pursue a long term deal with whomever shows interest in him, including the Bills. Though honestly I cannot come up with one reason for him to want to stay on the Bills if there are other teams with similar offers.

Bills interested in retaining Corey McIntyre
CodeMonkey replied to San Jose Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How much "find somewhere" is a team supposed to do in one off season? They had holes-a-plenty then created some more by letting a couple starters go. A DE retired. Still haven't signed Byrd or Levitre. At some point you have to stop the bleeding and realize there is only so much you can do in one off season. -
FYI for others, maxim link might not be safe for work. My work filter flagged it But yeah, she certainly looks like a "wow".

Bills to let David Nelson walk?
CodeMonkey replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Geez I certainly hope Nix, a long time professional scout and current GM of a NFL team , isn't thinking the same way a group or buttheads on a message board are whose only collective football experience is drinking beer while watching a game once a week for 16 weeks. If Nix is thinking the same way posters on here are then the Bills are far worse off than I thought.
