Eagles originally wanted draft picks, not Kiko
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They probably wanted pick 50 plus a mid or late rounder next year. Kiko a former second probably was valued at a second round pick. And in good negotiations you always ask for a little extra so they probably wanted a second and a pick next year. -
Had potential to be a decent tackle or a good backup but back injuries seemed to derail his career. Hopefully San Diego can revitalize his career as I do think he could be a decent swing tackle in the league.

That's not surprising to hear. Rex is know league wide as a players coach and players coaches tend to give more understanding and rope to players. That's why players like to play for guys like Rex. Imagine working for a boss that didn't get on your ass for being a few minutes late to a meeting once in awhile as opposed to a boss that wanted you to be 5 minutes early every time without exception. But being lenient with players does come at a cost as it makes players less disciplined, but being too much of a disciplinarian could lead to players resenting the coach. It sounds like in that last season with the Jets Rex maybe gave his players too much. I hope Rex cuts down on that sort of stuff here. This is a veteran team looking to win now, you can't let the inmates run the asylum.

Greg Roman going to pull a Mike Pettine?

It's possible, but hey if it motivates the guy to take this team to the playoffs and turn EJ's career around it won't be that bad. -
FA Brad Smith visiting Bills. Yes, that one.
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Watkins, Wood, Harvin, Goodwin, Easley, and Hogan are all on the roster. Goodwin seems to be the only one Smith could overtake. Watkins, Wood, and Harvin are the top 3, while Hogan is a solid backup slot. Easley is cog on the special teams unit. Goodwin on the other hand doesn't have a defined role or flashed enough ability so far. I wouldn't be opposed to a minimum contract in signing Smith. The team could use a vet pushing the other bubble WR's and his special teams worth allows him to craft out a role too. -
FA SS Dawan Landry visiting Bills

Sign Spikes and Landry if you can fit them under this years cap. Landry provides a good veteran option at safety while adding depth in case of injury. Spikes provides depth at LB and a powerful force in the run game on early downs. Both guys would help the depth of the defense in areas where they need it. Why the hell would you throw away two quality veteran players for a late round pick? -
What do you think the bills record will be next year?

10-6 and they make the wildcard. -
Help Me Understand The Hate of The Preseason Game
billsfan89 replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The starters only really play in 2 of the games. In game 1 they maybe play two series and in game 4 they don't play. It's arbitrary to think that cutting back on 2 pre-season games would mean starters would play that much less. Having those two extra games doesn't bother me, it's filler but a lot of the fringe players could use the playing time to make the team or practice squad. It also gives coaches more time to examine the deeper parts of the roster. -
Just for fun - Walter Football 2016 mock draft
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
CB Makes sense. In the 2010 draft coming off of a huge off season when the Jets signed Cromartie, traded for Holmes, signed LT, and signed Jason Taylor to complement a team that already made a good run in the playoffs with a top Defense and Special teams, and some talent on offense, Rex and the Jets had a middle late first round pick and they drafted Kyle Wilson a CB at a time when they were pretty good at CB. Rex loves to go man to man a lot and he needs good CB's. Also McKelvin and Graham aren't that young so adding a good young corner would be prudent providing those guys fall off or the younger CB's like Robey, Brooks, and Crockwell don't develop -

Contract year, Glenn knows a good year gets him paid. -

Rex's system was perfect for LaRon Landry. Two shut down corners made is so that Landry could roam free having to do much less in coverage. Landry flourished in that role because it maximized his free roam ability and minimized how inconsistent he can be in coverage. -

Why wouldn't you be allowed to do that? They allow teams to bring in all sorts of stuff for the bench. -

billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes but if you lose Suh and 3 other players and you sign 4 players to much smaller contracts then you don't get any compensatory picks. The Bills got nothing for losing Byrd because of the amount of players we signed to smaller contracts. The system has no context, it's a stupid numbers game that factors nothing else than players in players out. -
I think he is not going to be a Hall of Famer but he will be one of those borderline guys. 3 Super Bowl appearances was one of the best receivers from 07 to 12 solid stats to go along with his whole career. But he didn't produce the longevity needed to push him info the Hall of Fame.

The Eagles are playing Madden style GM in real life. Love it. -

The NFL's compensatory picks calculation is horrendously retarded. The fact that the Lions losing a player like Suh carries the same weight as them signing a player to a 1 year 4 million dollar deal shows what's wrong with the system. There is no context in the NFL's system. They need to switch to a system that factors in size of contracts, more so money in money out. The Bills front office should lobby to change the system as the Pats*, Steelers, and Ravens all seem to know how to benefit from the system. -

I forgot about Cockrell, I was mainly thinking of bringing in a corner in the late rounds to compete with Brooks but Brooks and Cockrell should be plenty of competition -

I wouldn't mind drafting a corner in round 5. The team goes 4 deep at corner with Gilmore, Graham, McKelvin, and Robey which is good but teams do need a 5th corner to achieve maximum depth (With how often teams play 3 and 4 corner sets). Brooks isn't a bad 5th corner but I think drafting on late isn't a bad way to spend a pick. -

Ryan puts his corners in a lot of man coverage without much safety and linebacker coverage. He basically dials up the pressure with very exotic blitzes and then has his corners lock down one on one. It's why Revis and Chromartie were so important to his defenses. -

Defense could use some depth. I would be happy if the team could sign both Spikes and Landry with the remaining 4+ million in cap space. Having a vet option at SS and a physical force at MLB would round out the D nicely. The the team can use the draft to build up the offense. -
Shady and Clay out the backfield along with Sammy and Woods split wide with Harvin in the slot would make for a very versatile talent team. Clay can block as a fullback so having Clay in the backfield doesn't dial it in as a pass. But you have two players that could legit catch the ball out the backfield and then having 3 wideouts all of whom you have to account for spread out the field. Only question is will the O-line and QB hold up.

Well they weren't going to fire Marrone after just one season. So it's kind of a moot point. Still I think having Schwartz with last years defense was better than Pettine, Pettine's scheme was very aggressive but it also resulted in huge running lanes as players were shooting gaps and over pursuing.
