In 2014 the Bills faced a woeful Raiders team and were 8-6 going into that game. Had the Bills won that game they might have been able to make the playoffs at 10-6. The two wildcard spots went to the 10-5-1 Bengals and the 10-6 Ravens. Hypothetically the Bills had they won that game in Oakland they would have been 9-6 going into a Pats game that they won (Brady got pulled in the second half because the game meant nothing to the Pats even if the Bills were 9-6 that game still would have meant nothing standings wise, although the Bills were winning at halftime after Brady had played a full half.) Not sure how the tiebreaker between the Bills and Ravens broke-down that year. Both teams would have been 6-6 in conference but the Bills were 4-2 in their division compared to the Ravens who were 3-3 in their division. Not sure exactly how everything else broke down tiebreaker wise. But that late season loss to the Raiders was a back breaker. Directly killed the Bills chances of making the playoffs that year in a game that the Bills should have won.

The Bills were 4-2 last year going into a key game against the Fins who were still finding themselves. The Bills lost and the Fins went on a huge run to get into the playoffs. This weeks game is huge but its far too early to say that it is any bigger than a lot of other games the Bills have had after hot starts. I will say this IF the Bills win on Sunday and are 5-2 then the Jets game will be one of the biggest games for the Bills in a decade. Not only a key divisional game but a win there would put the Bills at 6-2 on the season a pretty insane first half that sets them up well for the second half of the season.

It wouldn't be a bad move, if Gaines is hurt you could do worse in your hunt for a replacement.

The Jauron teams had a bend don't break defense that was at times accomplishing the bending while not breaking, but those are the types of defenses you can actually win with if you have a QB. To be honest if you have a top 10 QB in the league you will always have a good shot to win as long as you have any semblance of talent on the team.

The Bucs have an insane amount of offensive talent, Jamis has all the tools to be a MVP (Just needs to make better decisions), Mike Evans is a legit WR1 and if he just limits the drops could be one of the best 2-5 receivers in the league. DeSean Jackson is a pretty good number 2, Brate is a solid tightend, and Howard has a ton of potential to be a top tight end. Their O-line is one of the best in the league this year, and they have a very good RB combo, with Martin being a good between the tackles runner and Rodgers being a good third down back. The offense bailed the defense for once and the team got the win. The defense should still be good but they just ran into a top 5 offense. If Jamis develops his decision making and polishes up a bit more then Tampa could be an offense force for years to come.

Jason Peters suspected ACL/MCL tears
billsfan89 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Peters has been dam good with Philly. 3 years first team All-Pro 2011, 2013, 2014), 1 time second team All-Pro (2010), in 10 years. He is the anchor to their O-line and has been since they traded for him. Not that the Bills lost him for nothing but they let a great talent slip for no reason other than they didn't want to pay him. We let him go and another team not only happily paid him but they gave up 3 draft picks including a 1st round pick to acquire him. The Bills got lucky with Cordy Glenn 2 years later who has turned out to be a good LT. But the Bills should have realized what they had in Peters and done business with him. Even if Peters handled his business in a less than desirable way they should have known the type of talent they were letting go. -
Whaley was an OK GM in my opinion. I think the scheme changes certainly didn't help his track record but he made some bad picks here and there as he also made some good ones too. Whaley as a drafter was mediocre but his best talent was the pro-personnel side where he was able to some fairly good work. The McCoy trade, signing Tyrod, addressing the tight end position with Charles Clay, Zach Brown one year deal, signing InCog and then resigning him, Corey Graham, Brandon Spikes, keeping Jerry Hughes (I also think the original Hughes trade happened weeks before he became GM), and even this past off-season he was still in charge when they signed Hyde and Proyer. There were other smaller depth moves that he made that also were much more productive than they should have been. Overall I think that even if his drafting left a lot to be desired his moves on the pro side were good. I think he grades out as an average GM. Glad McD and Beane are here (You want your coach and GM on the same page) but I can't think of Whaley as a disaster.

Jason Peters suspected ACL/MCL tears
billsfan89 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very sad, looks like it is a season ending injury and at his age with a decent injury history it could be a career ender. -
Which is unfortunate because he could be had at a fairly affordable price (The Steelers likely would take him for a late round pick definitely no more than a 5th) and could add a dimension to the offense that is desperately needed even if everyone is healthy. But too many issues overall.

Tyrod is a pretty good QB. He is likely never going to be an elite top 5-7 QB, but he certainly is the best Bills QB to come along in a long time. Tyrod's detractors kind of forget how **** the Bills QB position was long before Tyrod got here. Tyrod offers the Bills a solid good competitive QB at an affordable rate, Tyrod also offers the Bills a chance to develop the QB position while having a good option in place at QB. The Bills can draft and develop QB's while Tyrod is here. Eventually the team can unseat Tyrod with a true high end QB or if Tyrod improves and the Bills are winning with him they can trade QB's that develop behind him.

Jordan Poyer injury - Out for Raiders game
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hopefully it is just a stinger or some other non-serious injury. We all were scratching our heads as to why the team signed Proyer and seemingly penciled him in as the starter. Proyer was a 7th round pick back in 2013 who played on some pretty miserable Browns teams only starting 10 games from 2015 to 2016 (and was pretty pedestrian) he also was coming off a season where he ended up on IR. But the dude has proven everyone wrong and been money. One of the best players on a dam good defense. -
Hypothetical Trade - Buffalo and Seattle
billsfan89 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pass, I would much rather have Glenn if all things are equal. Tackle is such an important position along the O-line and Graham while not washed up is expensive and his best days are likely behind him. -
Anybody else concerned about the Tampa game?
billsfan89 replied to SaviorPeterman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its a tough game, but this is the kind of game a playoff team wins. Cincy was a tough loss but you need to start piling up wins now. -
Zeke Elliott suspended for 6 games. For real this time!
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I were a fantasy football owner of Zeke I would have rather Zeke just take the suspension so that I could have him back for a (fantasy) playoff push. But I think this gets pushed into next season, just too many legal maneuvers for the Boys and Zeke to do. -
Fitz is a competent backup. But Jamis has all the tools to be an elite level QB. How anyone could prefer Fitz to Jamis is insane.

Bills have signed WR Deonte Thompson; cut Joe Banyard

It's a move, could help out a pretty thirsty WR corps. -
Why are MNF ratings low this season?
billsfan89 replied to CodeMonkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the QB's factor is a bit over rated. For one you are starting to see some new QB's come into their own in recent years, Russell Wilson, Cam Newton and Andrew Luck come to mind. You also have a lot of QB's up and coming that have a lot of promise Jamis Winston, Mariota, and now Watson. But setting that aside I do think that sometimes things just get over exposed and there just exists a natural reaction from the public. For years the NFL could do no wrong, they were way behind in social media and digital media, their market reach internationally was pretty limited, and they squeezed their fans at every point completely ringing out every dollar they could from their product. The market simply got over saturated and some outside factors (Anthem protests, chord cutting, more entertainment options, ect) played into it. I would also say that the NFL's complete mismanagement of a lot of things has also contributed to the slight decline. Goodell !@#$ed up what people thought was fail proof. Ray Rice and a lot of the other cases he handled were bad. They kept pushing the Thursday games and they just got completely arrogant. I suspect the NFL pulls back a bit and adjusts a lot of what they do business wise to rebuild their fanbase a bit. -
Why are MNF ratings low this season?
billsfan89 replied to CodeMonkey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Monday Night Football just doesn't have the best match-ups anymore. Sunday Night Football has clearly overtaken the spot as where the best match-ups are. I would also say that something people don't talk about as impacting the ratings is the Thursday Night games. Monday Night football use to be your last chance to get football until the following Sunday. Now you see a game 3 days later. The Thursday Night Games have in my opinion completely over exposed football, the anthem protests, chord cutting, and more options/competition have all played a factor. But the anthem protests will blow over and chord cutting and more options wasn't detouring footballs ratings for years when almost every other major network and cable station was getting impacted by those things. NFL football use to go away from Tuesday through Saturday. You got away from it enough where by the time you saw another game it felt fresh. Now that Thursday game just makes football seem like it is on all the time. You are never more than 2 or 3 days away from another football game being on TV. By the time the Monday Night game comes on it just feels like just another game. The NFL needs to end those **** Thursday games asap. It would help the Monday Night games and it would in general improve the casual fans ability to get away from football then tune back in on weekends and Monday's. Core fans will always be there but the casuals are where the ups and downs come from. -
Mcdermott did the same thing to our offense as Rex did
billsfan89 replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lynn bounced for a HC gig, not sure what offensive coordinators were out there that ran a system similar to what Roman and Lynn were running. I think new coaching staffs like to implement their systems and they fill in the talent they need (Which requires more cap dollars and draft picks) it might not be the wisest decision but coaches simply go with what they know how to do and who they feel comfortable with. -
They need to win the next three games in a row...
billsfan89 replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
2 out of 3 is the minimum but realistically a playoff team wins 3 in a row. The Bucs could be without Jamis and that's a must win. The Raiders are struggling and who knows how healthy Carr could be. Then you have the Jets who are a division opponent and you have to take care of business in your own division. At 6-2 the team is in a good place going into a tough stretch of games against the Saints, @Chargers, @KC, and The Pats*. If at 6-2 you split those 4 games (Take care of the Chargers and then steal one of the other 3 games) you go to 8-4 and you put yourself in a nice place heading into the last 4 games of the season. It isn't a necessity to win 3 in a row but when you see the schedule you need to get fat while you can. -
Lacanfora: Seahawks tried to trade for Glenn
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I suspect (That if this is true) That the Bills probably wanted Seattle's 3rd rounder in 2018 plus a 4th or better in 2019. It seems like that Seattle without their 2018 2nd rounder and a team unlikely to part with their 1st for Glenn would have to build a package around their 3rd rounder and a future pick. Considering the hefty cost of Glenn's contract it is likely that Seattle would be looking to part with a mid round pick and a later round pick. Its all speculation on my part but I have to think the Bills are not looking to give Glenn away. -
Kaepernick Files Grievance Against NFL Owners
billsfan89 replied to Foxx's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Given that the 49ers and supposedly another team offered him a minimum deal there is going to be a hard to prove there was a highly organized and prove-able effort by the NFL owners to keep him out of the league. In reality he might be correct but it is a very difficult thing to prove from a legal stand point. -
Saints Trade Adrian Peterson to the Cardinals
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
DJ is out until December from most reports, even if he came back with a few weeks left in the season he is going to take weeks to come back. AP is pretty much going to be their primary back for the rest of the season. -
Saints Trade Adrian Peterson to the Cardinals
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
AP was pretty dam good today, he might be the big spark the Cards offense needs. I thought AP was washed up but he looks like he can still go. Maybe he can't sustain what he has. But even if he just pops in 4-5 more good games that trade will have been worth it. -
Deshawn Watson is better then Tyrod. Yes I said it
billsfan89 replied to 17 Josh Allen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Watson has been very impressive, much better than I thought he would be. But best rookie QB ever? He has a shot at it. Certainly been very that dam good. But I think we need to see exactly how the rest of the season plays out before we anoint him the next big QB the Bills missed out on. Tyrod has been pretty effective this season given the circumstances. Plenty of football left to play.
