Dallas signs QB Aaron Corp after release by Bills
VanCity replied to BillsWatch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You beat me to it. Well played, well played.... -
Jonestown cult in the late 70's. Most everybody bought in and, literally, drank the Kool Aid. The Kool Aid that time was poisoned by their leader, Jim Jones, and was intended to kill the whole group simultaneously. Let us hope that Buddy has not pulled a Jim Jones and the Kool Aid was fabricated without being laced with poison.

Now, that would not be a surprise at all. They even did that when the Bills had the 3rd pick! -
The Big Cat hit the nail on the head. The tragedy in Boston was and is horrific. Stevie offered some un-sensitive remarks, but they were not meant as malicious and certainly not as fore-shadowing to the events at the Marathon. I do, however, hope that he thinks before offering up his tweets going forth.

Feel for Browns fans. Those guys are as down on their luck as us. Hope this gets cleared up fast for their sake. They actually could come out of the draft as the second best team in their division. Pitts and Cincy are big question marks and, despite their FA and retirement losses, the Ravens are still the Champs until someone unseats them

The new tone at OBD: What they're saying
VanCity replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can see it now Marrone " See, this is what happens when you get hurt!" Bad way to make an example out of someone. Not saying that the Bills keep him, just that making an example out of an injured player is not making the right example. -

Thing about Torrell is that it's not an effort thing. The guy has been seriously injured the past two seasons. He wants to play, just wasn't physically able to. The message should be sent through a guy that can play, just doesn't put his heart, mind and body into it. Dareus, Mario and Stevie do not fit that bill either. I'm actually keen to see which Kyle Williams shows up in 2013/14. If he is the guy we all raved about in 2010-2012, he's not going anywhere. If he is the completely ineffective guy we saw in 12/13, then he heads up to the upper tier of the cut prospects. I like Kyle, I just think that Alan Branch being brought in may be a message to him. -

Here's the thing. If you go into a locker room and see a group that has been battered on the field and bashed in the media, your priority is to turn things around mentally first. If you don't target the Super Bowl as the goal for your football team, why do you even field a team? Whether or not any of the fans believe that, based on the on-field product we witnessed and the personnel changes so far, the Bills are a Super Bowl contender is completely inconsequential. I expect that the priorities for Marrone are as follows: 1) Change the attitude in the room. Bring an upbeat, high energy focus and instill a greater drive on the part of the players. 2) Set expectations. If they are not met, make an example out of the biggest offender. If that is a cut, then so be it. if it is just simply putting them on the spot in front of their peers, so be it. Some of the guys on NFL teams are such Prima Donnas that the only thing that makes a difference to them is when they are ostracized. Guys that don't work to achieve a unified goal can easily be ostracized. 3) Put the systems in place. Set the tone on D, O and ST. This is the basics of coaching. No explanation necessary. -

Less than 2 weeks till the draft, your pick at #8
VanCity replied to Kellyto83TD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Patterson has one season of college ball with a limited number of receptions (46) and yards (778). However, he looks the part and I expect him to impress at the next level despite the negatives that have been spun about his numbers last season. People forget ( or are not aware of) the fact that he was the top recruit out of Juco with a number of top Div I programs chasing him (rumored to be Auburn, Ole Miss and Alabama among others). The guy will be the top WR to come out this year. If he is there at 8 and the Bills pick another WR, they will regret it. All of the above being said, my pick is Jarvis Jones. Mainly because, based on stats and visual observations, he is both the BPA and fills a position of immense need. There is a deep pool of solid WR's this year that will be available in the second and third rounds. WR is a need, but this defense needs playmakers and the top end of this draft is where to find one. I'm not too scared off by the reports on his spinal condition. He won't be the first or the last to succeed despite medical question marks. And the 40 time is over rated. Watch game film (not a highlight reel) and see how explosive he is and how successful he is in chasing down runners, receivers and QB's. Dude is far from slow when he needs to get the job done. -
I generally find that you have value to add to the conversations here. This was far from one of those times. Tavon Austin has great hands, great speed, great lateral quickness and was extremely durable in college due to his elusiveness and ability to get away from would-be tacklers. Though the players in the NFL are bigger and faster on average, an NFL squad would be pretty dumb to ignore such a high-level of college production. That would pretty much discount the play of every speedy player in college if they followed the logic of "they can't maintain it in the pros" every time. The guy would be a good pick-up if the Bills traded down and WR is a definite position of need in 13/14 for the Bills. I'd like to at least see Robert Woods, if available, in the 3rd if the Bills go LB in 1 (smart call) and QB in 2 (expected call). Playmakers are definitely going to be a necessity with the current group on offense and the QB's in place.

Draft that will make you want to jump off a building

I would not jump off a building regardless of how the draft goes. However, I would be more than a little ticked if the Bills waste their #1 on Nassib without trading way down. My two cents. -

Bills sign UFA DT Alan Branch to 1 year deal
VanCity replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As a guy who follows the Hawks, I will admit to being a big fan of this option. Branch and Red Bryant manning the middle of the Hawks D last year made for a very large interior line that defended passes well, blocked a few kicks and held opposing RB's to the 5th lowest ypg in the league last year. He wasn't the only reason, but he was a noticeable piece of it. I like the threesome of Williams, Williams and Dareus, but I think the mix of players and schemes Pettine seems to look to use will require a guy like Branch. He can play the NT and a DT well, so I can't complain about quality depth on that front. And, the Seahawks not resigning him comes down to the finances required to sign Michael Bennett, Percy Harvin and Cliff Avril. They signed a guy on the "cheap" (Tony McDaniel) to fill Branch's role. The quality is a downgrade, but interior linemen weren't the most integral part of Bevell's Defense last year and I don't see that changing this coming year. Edit: Very happy to see the above Post! Go Bills! -
Who will win the Super Bowl first? Buffalo or Cleveland
VanCity replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought this over for a bit. We'd have three standout RB's, a great O line and d-line, strong CB's, good LB's (I'd like to have Kruger on the Bills any day) and some decent WR's......but still no QB. We may make the playoffs, but no SB there. -
I'm of the opinion that if Geno is gone and Barkley isn't their guy, then go BPA. Jones, IMHO, fits the bill based on a proven history of results and an examination of his play. I worry about Dion Jordan being another Maybin...and I definitely want nothing to do with another Maybin...

That's the sense that I get too. Fine, upstanding young men are great for the community...but winning is better!
