Pretty decisive quote to be "humble." Anyway, I'll pas on Vince Young, Jr. je's a prima donna (media only workouts...?) with a greedy poppa...that's 2 of 3 components to an NFL A-Bomb...Gabbert...really? What is the hype aout on this kid? He didn't even come close to putting up the numbers Daniel did...IN THE SAME OFFENSE! (OK, Gabbert only started 2 years with 6,822 yds and 40 TD's as a Sophomore and Jr....Danieal as a TRUE Freshman and sophomore put up 7,833 yds & 61 TD's) Not to mention he's ascrawny guy @ 6'5", 235lbs. He needs to put on 20 lbs to fill his frame and become less fragile. (Daniel was only 6'1", 225lbs.) What I'm saying is, people need to get off the Gabbert short bus. -

I'm all for Jordan...in the top 10, not top 5. BUT, if they're thinking he'll get snatched up by one of the other defense hungry teams (AZ, San Fran, Cleveland, Dallas...) they may just pull the trigger. His draft stock skyrocketed after the Sr. Bowl as he was a one man wrecking crew both outside and in on the DL. If he further impresses with a strong combine and pro day, he'll probably jump into a top 5 prospect. Keep in mind that there is a very small crop of NFL ready 3-4 DE's. Most of you will go bonkers on a "reach" pick, but my bet is that Jordan turns out to be the best DE in the draft year 1. Cal runs a 3-4, which he has started in for 3 years, as well as playing in all 13 games as a true freshman. Everyone thought he looked good because he was opposite of Alualu (2010 NFL Draft 1st Rd. selection, Jaguars) , but last year his production continued to increase and he was one of the most feared DL in all of the PAC-10, which says a lot considering the competition and the position he plays. This is also supported by the fact that he won Cal's Bob Tessier award for the most improved DL....twice. He gets better every year, even without Alualu, is the perfect size @ 6'4", 287lbs. is strong and has an uncanny knack for locating the ball. He put up 67 tackles, 12.5 tqackles for a loss, 5.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 4 pass breakups....uhhhh, those numbers are sick considering his primary responsibility was to eat up blockers and let the LB's make plays. Trust me fellas, this kid is the real deal! FINALLY!!! A realist with some football smarts! Good post NoSaint! -
I've seen this arguement from you, on Moch, before. Because your other posts prove, to me anyway, you have some sort of football sense between your ears, can you elaborate? My take is exactly opposite...he's garned Def POY in the WAC 2 years running, is in most the top 10 measurable categories for his postion in NCAA record books, and I've watched the kid play...more than once. He plays with great leverage and seems to be around the ball... A LOT. He may be overly dependent on his speed at the collegiate level, but it seems to me like the kid IS, in fact, football savy...What do you see that is different?

Another "What we need" thread... NOT by position

Amen brother!! I think Fairley posesses exactly what we're looking for. Wood has a bit of a nastry streak, but I wish they would have kept Icognito around. -
So would I, but i don't see the value there...on RT's: Castonzo, Solder, Smith, Sherrod & Carimi will all likely be gone in the first. That leaves us with Love, who got eaten alive @ the Sr. Bowl; then Pinkston who is not the kind of OL I wnt. He's soft nd doesn't attck the defender. He catches alot of his blocks and just isn't the mauling dominant type of OT I would prefer. Connon is projecting as a OG in the NFL as he may not be able to handle the speed of NFL level DE's. Barksdale, although solid, is nothing special, he's just there...but, consistent. I really like James Carpenter out of Alabama. He's the sturdy, durable and reliable type OT that we need. He has excellent hands and is quick off the snap, though he lacks the elite foot speed to continue his carrer @ LT in the NFL. He was all SEC both years as a starter @ LT and will anchor the right side of our line for the next decade. On ILB's: I am just not a fan of Martez Wislon. The kid had a couple of solid seasons as a true freshman and sophomore, but was injured in his first game as a Jr. and hasn't played since as he declared for this years draft. Couple with the fact it was a neck injury to an ILB...I'd pass. There are a few more guys that are rated better than Kelvin Sheppard, but to me are all on the wrong side of 240lbs. to be that stud run stuffer we need next to Poz. Sheppard, right now, is projected as a high 3rd, low 4th round selection, but he may jump up some draft boards with a solid combine and pro day. I really like the kid as he is a 3 year starter and plays with a lot of passion and emotion. He's a hard nosed SOB that I would love to see here.

It's simply a matter of difference of opinion homey...chill out and stop lashing out at those who don't necessarily agree with you...it's merely speculation. As soon as you succumb to the fact that none of us actually have a clue as to how a pro football team's draft strategy is carried out, the easier and more fun it will be to post on this board...

Just my $.02...All the players listed for potential first round picks are great players, don't get me wrong. I've only one person mention Cam Jordan, DE out of Cal. IMHO, he is as good, if not better than all of them. He's a 3 year starter as a DE in a 3-4 scheme...no projecting asd a DE or OLB, simply put, he's a 3-4 DE. Most everyone expected his production to slip after Alualu was drafted last year...WRONG, his #'s went up and he was widely viewed as the most feared DL in the PAC-10, even as a 3-4 guy. Add to that his performance in Mobile last week where he DOMINATED every OL he lined up against, and couldn't even be stopped with double teams. I think he's the most underated DL in this draft class, which is deep on front 7 D. I think he can be had outside the top 10 which opens us up to trading down and picking up an additonal 2nd this year and next year. Houston desperately needs help in thier secondary and St. Louis desperately needs help @ WR. Insert Peterson and Green and that makes a trade with one of the two much more feasable. Grabbing Jordan @ 11 or 14 gives us an opportunity to get 2 more day 1 starters fit for the 3-4 in Taylor, DT out of Baylor; Stocker, TE out of Tenn; or even Jimmy Smith, CB out of CO (which I think is a greater need than TE, even though I am a huge Stocker fan). This falls into place and our first 3 picks are: Rd 1 - Jordan Rd 2a - Taylor Rd 2b - Smith (Stocker if we really want a TE in round 2)
-
My bet is that he doesn't go anywhere... Ravens meeting with Gaither...
-
A FB in the 4th? R U NUTS? Do you forget that we have one of the best blocking FB's in the league on our squad?
-
I'm a Kevin Boss fan as well; however, I suggest you check out Luke Stocker from Tennessee. I think this kid is gonna be special.

need some input about quinn and taylor
Armchair GM replied to swnybillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd pass on Quinn...the whole 1 good year thing...I'd rather have Jordan out of Cal, especially after his performance in Mobile, where he was a one man wrecking crew and NO ONE could stop him, even with double teams. Taylor, on the other hand isat the tippy top of my wish list. He's a BEAST. He got in a little trouble @ Penn State for a fight and got booted after a sophomore performance where he played in a reserve role and racked up 20 tackles, 6.5 for a loss and 3 sacks. Sits out 2008 in compliance with NCAA transfer rules and plays in 12 games, starting 9 for Baylor where he put up similar #'s and added an interception 2 blocked kicks and a fumble recovery. As 5th yr sr. he dominated and his teammates looked to him as a leader and he kept his nose clean for his final couple years of college. Either way, I like us trading out of the top 10 and picking up an additional second with it going like this: Round 1: Jordan, DE/OLB, Cal Round 2a: Taylor Round 2b: Luke Stocker, TE, Tenn. Mark my words, this kid is gonna be a GREAT TE in the NFL. -
Disagree!! Luke Stocker is going to be a stud TE in this league. After his performance this week, all he needs to do is have an equal showing @ the combine and his pro day, and he'll jump up into the second round.

Is Cameron Jordan the best player…
Armchair GM replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Also a big fan here! He's starting to garner some attention as a standout down in Mobile this week. Watch for a big game from this kid and a good combine to shoot him up into the top 10. -
I, for one, am a Fan. He's got all the physical attributes that make a prototypical NFL QB...size, arm strength, mobility, etc. It's all the intangibles that are up in the air and will only be answered with a decent look at playing time. Remember the 2 minute drill he executed last preseason...pretty good, just sayn'. I think he's a guy that needs an injury to the guy in front of him to get any kind of significant playing time, and he could shine...or bust for that matter. Time will tell. For all we know, he could be the Next Tom Brady.

My off-season strategy, yours?
Armchair GM replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
REALLY? 6'2" (more likely 6'1") 240lbs (more like 230ish) is "severely undersized"? Maybe for a DE, but he's projecting as a pass rushing OLB. He's a bit slender, but has a frame that can carry an extra 10-15 lbs without losing a step. He holds virtually every Nevada pash rushing record. Also, leading the WAC in tackles for a loss and sacks for the past 2 season surely displays his complete lack of football instincts...right? He's a three-year starter. He projects to the OLB in the NFL. Played some OLB as a freshman, and was effective dropping off into zone coverage against the pass. Quick off the snap and good at shedding blocks with his hands, also has a strong bull rush. He's a productive , fearless and intense big hitter. Oh, did I mention he consistantly runs in the 4.3 range in the 40 yrd. dash? He was clocked @ 4.25 last spring (obviously unofficial). The knocks on him are all very coachable @ the next level. He's a bit stiff in the hips due to being a former track star (straight line speed) and needs work on his ability to change direction. Lacks a double move so if he relies on his speed and doesn't beat his man off the line he's ineffective. Not stout against the run as a down lineman, which won't matter @ OLB. Lacks experience with NFL type man coverage assignments. Watch some film on this kid and you'll jump on the band wagon too. He plays balls out every snap and usually is in on or makes the play. P.s. Bangarang...I hope you have nothing to do with football in any capacity with that weak a55 statement! -

Classless or not, that right there was funny! -
Hey Big Scoob, I can't imagine that Casey puts on enough of a show at the combine (and other scouting events) that will warrant a jump that high on the draft boards...if he does, he may not make past the Pack and end up playing with Big Brother. I love Hali, unfortunately I think he'll be the Chiefs #2 priority after Charles. They have a few guys that'll be FA's, but I can't see them not making their best effort to resign their best, argueably anway, player on the D. They've put together a pretty decent team and need to build around guys like him.
-
Point taken on Henderson, but he'd be a great addition as a stop gap insurance policy as Merriman (sp) is still a huge "?" to me. Edwards is only 26 brother.
-
Not to be combattive, but ALL draft picks are iffy and talent recognition is subjective

Great inside info...thx!! For what it's worth, I think you can insert and OLinemans name here that had a bad year...doesn't mean they wouldn't return to form, or improve with a "change of scenery."
