in order of preference... #1- restructure #2- cut #3- keep
-
good deal for both sides.....kind of a warning sign tho...i don't think McGee accepts this if he is 100% healthy. look for similar deals with D. Florence, D. Edwards, S. Johnson & Thigpen who are all slightly overpaid.

couldn't folks make that up by eating an extra dozen or so of those yummy $1 hot dogs? -
With the 10th pick of the 2012 NFL draft, Buffalo picks...

u watch....he will be first DL off the board. EDIT: just found an interesting link (has Still coming off board as second DL, btw he is cousin of our old Art Still). Top 64 prospects for the NFL draft by Frank Cooney of NFLDraftScout.com: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/story/2012-02-21/nfl-draft-andrew-luck-robert-griffin-top-64/53191320/1 -
both are going Top 10......Reiff first (7th or 8th overall) and then Martin (10th to Bills).

only in Bills land do folks complain about games going to Toronto and then turn around and complain when they come back. Bills tickets remain at or near the lowest prices in the NFL. i've had 4 seats for over 25 years....i'm going to increase them to 8 this year. GO BILLS !!!!! -
sneaky....i don't think he ever said which side of the story his source came from.

here we go..... start with the ol spell his name wrong trick......hmmm, lets see if i can get under his skin, followed by a few not so subtle cheapshots..... John Wawrow is one of the crown jewels of TBD......

it's all about PR...Public Relations......each side wants to paint themselves as being on the correct side of the disagreement. they want to prepare the public by assigning blame to the other when it goes badly....or to force the other to move from their previous position via public outcry. using the stevie johnson example....his agent wants to suggest the bills are low balling his client. athletes almost always want to be liked, if stevie leaves he wants to put the blame on the bills....even though he may have his own greedy self interest at heart by taking the highest offer. Athletes have a very short window, i dont blame them either way....taking less by giving a home town discount or taking the highest offer. athletes are an expendable piece of meat who get discarded as soon as they underperform their pay, they need to get it while they can. management wants to sugggest athlete is asking more than they feel he is worth. stevie is popular and they at least want the fan base to think they tried, when in fact, they may or may not be genuinely interested in keeping him. they need their fans supporting those decisions as expressed through ticket sales. good PR equals Hope equals ticket sales. only Winning trumps PR.

i think Nix is the right guy to judge talent. in two drafts the only pick i dont like is Troup.

to me, Upshaw projects as an ILB.....he is not fast enough to play OLB and not strong enough to play DE. i think the way the draft falls, the BPA will be Martin LT Stanford. -
Maybe Stevie is better than we thought
papazoid replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Stevie's success against Revis is the #1 positive selling point for him to justify his worth. i'm really torn, but i would sign stevie to big money only if it was structured in a way that i could get out of it if he continues his antics or doesn't reach his full potential with on field performance. i don't like investing big money in WR's....i prefer it go to lineman.....but buffalo has such few options to attract top talent, that you should probably keep and overpay stevie a little. -
Stanford Routt will be picking his next team soon The news that Routt will soon pick a team comes amid chatter that he’s having trouble generating real interest in his services. Apparently, at least one team has legitimate interest; if not, there would be no selection for Routt to make. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/02/19/stanford-routt-will-be-picking-his-next-team-soon/ can only mean the Bills...

do we have Two thousand yard rushers? Over/Under
papazoid replied to EldaBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jackson and Spiller COMBINED rushed for under 1,500 yards last year. NO they will not BOTH reach 1,000 yards Rushing. NO they will not COMBINED reach 2,000 yards Rushing. having said that, they combined for just over 2,200 All-Purpose (rush & receiving) yards last year. i think they have a legit shot at 2,500 combined this season. -
Troupe is HORRIBLE with or without a bad back...he will be considered a BUST....and the only reason he will get to stay is that Nix would not admit a mistake so early....unfortunately Troupe will play out his rookie contract and then go down in anals like John McCargo. Edwards is a solid pro...but his zero dead money and $4.175 cap saving contract makes him very vulnerable. McKelvin isn't going anywhere. Florence' contract also makes him very vulnerable....i thought he played awful last year. McGee & Merriman better both get 100% healthy or they will be gone.

with the 10th overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft..... the Buffalo Bills select: Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford mark it down...book it......championship !!

Merriman, Shawne please explain the CAP to me please
papazoid replied to 95altima12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
no matter the amount of bonus money upfront...the "cap" hit is exactly the same every year for the length of the contract, evenly divided....unless performance bonuses achieved raise the number or is ended sooner by cutting the player, which then creates "dead money". the "cash to cap" system (not to be confused with a new term "carry over cash")the bills employ is a "cash flow" system...whereby, the bills run a seperate set of books where they try NOT to spend more in cash (all bonuses and salaries) in any given year that would exceed the "cap" limit for that same year. that cash system does not trump or is lieu of the cap system...they still must follow all cap rules. -

"dead money" for NFL cap purposes is money counted against the salary cap for players who are no longer on your team (they were cut prior to the end of their contract, but were paid large bonuses in the early years that must still go against some cap year, depending on when the cut is made. example if cut made before june 1st dead money counts for 2012. if made after june 1st dead money can be pushed into 2013). lets take two examples assuming the salary cap information in the link is correct. if the bills released shawn merriman today, he would still count $500,000 of cap towards our 2012 season (actually not alot). if the bills cut QB Ryan Fitzpatrick today, the bills would still have to count $13,000,000 towards the cap (a high number). as you can see from that link the bills have $8.6 million of dead money for 2012 (mostly from Maybin & Lee Evans). So, with the salary cap set at $120 mil for 2012, the bills must count/deduct $8.6 mil of dead money from that $120 mil leaving them with $111.4 mil to spend. this is where the bills are cheap crowd will say the spending floor is only $108 mil so they really have $99.4 mil to spend. -
i do NOT think ralph made the spiller pick. i DO think that with Ralph in the war room, that his personnel guys have had from time to time, waste time justifying why they like the player they do. has he ever meddled in the past ?...probably, who wouldn't want to be involved as an owner on draft day offering advice. but, i believe for the most part, he lets his people do their jobs. does anyone have any proof whatsoever that ralph "forced" his guys to pick someone he preferrred, even once ? unfortunately he watched dummies like Jauron pick Maybin. maybe just maybe, ralph should have been making the picks...lol. regarding Spiller....at the time he probably was the best available player....now in hindsight thats arguable or not true. i think spiller is a heck of a player, but is screwed playing behind fred jackson. green bay didn't really know what they had in aaron rodgers for 4 years, til they parted with brett. spiller aint no rodgers, but he isn't a bust either. when he gets his chance, i think spiller will shine.

Peter King (SI): I've been thinking of stepping down from the committee of 44 selectors. Many of you are right. Twenty years is a long time. I've stated my case -- in favor or opposed -- for many who've been elected and many who haven't. And I've thought, independent of the argument some have proposed for term limits for Hall voters, that maybe it's time for someone else to sit in judgment of these great players, coaches and league and club officials. Fresh voices are good things. I believe all votes should be made public, because we should stand behind our opinions. I believe the committee should be expanded to include a conscientious player, coach or club official from the existing 32 teams. But if you think that's going to end the arguments and the perceived biases, you're crazy. It would, however, give the vote more legitimacy, in my opinion. i still prefer a 3 man booth.....somebody on the defensive side of the ball....say like Deion Sanders (PRIMETIME)he is funny, entertaining, engaging and informative. i think the analyst should have a foil as part of their schtick.

Courtney Upshaw is NOT a top 10 pick.... here's an every play video from the LSU championship game. i myself think he projects better at inside LB.....he's not fast enough for OLB and not strong enough to play DE.
