CRIMINAL CHARGES Criminal charges of assault and battery against the teams, including Williams, are possible, said Ryan Rodenberg, an attorney and a sports management professor at Florida State University. Rodenberg said that in 2000, Canadian prosecutors brought assault charges against Boston Bruins hockey player Marty McSorley for smashing Vancouver Canucks player Donald Brashear in the head with a hockey stick. As a result of the blow, Brashear struck his head on the ice, lost consciousness and suffered memory lapses. McSorley was sentenced to 18 months probation and banned from playing for that period. Although the case did not involve bounty payments, it illustrates the willingness of prosecutors to get involved in situations involving intentional hits, Rodenberg said. Criminal charges related to the bounty scandal could arise from the various jurisdictions where injuries occurred. Federal prosecutors could also bring charges, said Paul Callan, a former New York City prosecutor who is an attorney at New York's Callan, Koster, Brady & Brennan. If bounties were paid for games played outside a team's home state, then interstate telephone calls, computer use and travel could trigger federal charges, he said. Possible charges could include wire fraud, conspiracy and racketeering, Callan said. Tax evasion charges were another possibility for the money that players earned for making big hits. "Things could get interesting," Callan said. http://news.yahoo.com/bounty-scandal-could-end-u-courts-223629970--nfl.html -

here we go... Dungy: Gregg Williams’ Redskins may have started Peyton Manning’s neck issues: By the time the "BountyGate" scandal investigation is over, the only thing former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams might not have been blamed for is whatever gas prices happen to be at that time. Last September, Cindy Boren of the Washington Post wrote an article in which ex-Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy put the start of Peyton Manning's longstanding neck injuries and surgeries at a game between the Colts and the Redskins on October 22, 2006. On one play, Manning was given a "high-low" hit by defensive linemen Andre Carter and Phillip Daniels. Those types of hits, in which two defensive players aim for different halves of an offensive player's body, are among the most dangerous in football. After the play, Manning lay on the ground for a brief time, got up, and as Dungy told Peter King of SI.com and NBC Sports last September, shook his right arm "as if trying to get the feeling back in it." http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/dungy-gregg-williams-redskins-may-started-peyton-manning-163634407.html -

Meanwhile, former Buffalo Bills safety Coy Wire told The Buffalo News that Williams promoted bonuses injuring opponents while he was the head coach in Buffalo. "There was financial compensation," Wire told the newspaper, which also cited three other anonymous defensive players who confirmed the existence of a bounty program during Williams' time with the Bills. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7644139/nfl-reportedly-probe-washington-redskins-bounties -
After Close To 15 Years of Blasting Them
papazoid replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
in all fairness....that ranking was done BEFORE last season started (Aug 2011). they/he might rank em differently this year. i do think on the plus side that Woods at Center and Levitre at Left Guard are studs. on the negative side, i truly believe we have the worst starting Tackles in the league. just to repeat myself, that 3rd least sack stat is mainly because Fitz is smart enough to throw the ball in 3 seconds or less. most lines provide LONGER pass protection. Fred Jackson near leading the league in YAC is a testament to him, NOT the line. -

exactly !!.... the unit as whole SUCKS !!...according to Rotoworld's analysis they are ranked 30th out of 32 teams. the ONLY reason they show up statistically at all is because Fitz throws the ball in 3 seconds or less and Fred Jackson is a league leader in YAC yards after contact. http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/38453/179/matchups -

"Money on the Board" will never stop. in a funny twist: Goodell is yet to hand out discipline for the Saints, who could face fines, suspensions and forfeiture of draft choices, "in light of the competitive nature of the violation," according to the league's statement. The Patriots own New Orleans' first-round pick in the upcoming draft. -

The New Orleans Saints and quarterback Drew Brees are millons of dollars apart on a new contract as the Monday franchise tag deadline draws near, sources tell ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The two sides, both of which believe they are making a fair offer, are facing a gap of $5 million per season for the first three seasons of the proposal, sources told Schefter. Brees, who led the Saints to their only Super Bowl championship and last season broke Dan Marino's single-season passing yards record, is seeking a contract that averages $23 million per season for the first three years of his deal, sources told Schefter. That's the same amount Peyton Manning's Colts contract averages the first three seasons. But the Saints are offering Brees a five-year contract that averages $18 million a year, sources told Schefter, which is the average that Manning and New England's Tom Brady are due to earn over the life of their deals. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7637479/drew-brees-new-orleans-saints-divided-money-first-three-years-sources-say

QB Ryan Tannehill to Bills at #10 ??
papazoid replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tannehill to Cleveland at #4 ?? If the reports that the Browns aren’t enthusiastic about trading up to draft Robert Griffin III are true, does that mean Cleveland has decided against taking a quarterback in the first round of the NFL draft? Not necessarily. Browns coach Pat Shurmur told Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he liked another quarterback he met with at the Scouting Combine: Texas A&M’s Ryan Tannehill. After first saying he was impressed with Griffin, Shurmur then mentioned how much he liked Tannehill. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/02/browns-coach-pat-shurmur-talks-up-ryan-tannehill/ -
Packers sell 268,000 shares, raise $67 million
papazoid replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
actually...ALL nfl teams should be allowed to do this (sell shares)...... i look at it as a VOLUNTARY luxury tax.....those that love their team and want to help financially ....can buy these so called shares of stock. otherwise all taxpayers are forced to contribute if the politicians approve the use of public subsidies. kind of like of the lottery..... i look at folks who buy lottery tickets as a VOLUNTARY luxury tax. -
Tackle is an option for Bills Stanford's Martin could help Fitz with blitz "Jonathan Martin, to me, is the prototypical left tackle," said Mike Mayock, NFL Network draft analyst. "Gifted athletically, needs to get a little bit stronger. A lot of things I said about Kalil, you could say about him. Needs to get a little bit stronger but will protect the quarterback." Martin resisted a strong recruiting pitch from Harvard, Fitzpatrick's alma mater. Both of Martin's parents are Harvard graduates, and it's believed he would have been the university's first fourth-generation African-American student. Martin's great grandfather on his mother's side graduated from Harvard in 1924 and knew W.E.B. DuBois, the famed sociologist, historian and civil rights activist (and a Harvard man, as well.) http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/bills-nfl/article746147.ece?twobillsdrive i happen to think that Martin will be the pick at #10.

The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.... Rogers Communications is alive and well. That donor was and is a business entity, not an individual, the show goes on. By Associated Press, Published: February 21 BUFFALO, N.Y. — There’s growing optimism that the Buffalo Bills will renew their deal to play games in Toronto beyond this season. And Bills fans shouldn’t worry about losing more than one regular-season game a year north of the border. That was the message delivered by Rogers Communications Media president Keith Pelley in an interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday. http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/redskins/buffalo-bills-lose-preseason-game-at-toronto-this-summer-due-to-scheduling-conflict/2012/02/21/gIQAPyNORR_story.html -
that only tells a partial story.....it's Nate Solder AND $13 mil year in savings to spend on another player....like Vince Wilfork ($8 mil/yr) Nate Solder 8/4/2011: Signed a four-year, $8,540,500 contract ($2.1 mil/yr). Richard Seymour 2/16/2011: Signed a two-year, $30 million contract. The deal contains $15 million guaranteed -- all in the form of Seymour's first-year base salary ($15 mil/yr).

Franchise Tag.....he's going nowhere....but it could get ugly.....i say if new orleans franchise tags brees...he will refuse to sign it and sit out.....no way he plays under a one year deal ($14.374 mil)....this is his last bite at a big guaranteed contract ($50 mil).
