Love how we got some heated debate on here on the topic of punters. I for one am a huge Moorman fan. he's been one of my favorite bills for the past decade. The fact is, that Moorman is no longer one of the elite punters in the league. Actually if you look at the numbers from last year, he was 25th in the league in net yds, and 24th in the league in punts inside the 20. 2011 Punting Stats I would love to see Moorman retire as a bill, but if this Powell kid can improve our punting unit, it would be foolish not to let him take over.

Positional Needs for DraftTek - June
Billsrhody replied to Astrobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
QB WR TE OT DE OLB I think if there is a top notch QB prospect, you always have to take him. However, I wouldnt want to reach for someone (like a christian ponder type). I think WR will always be a top priority until we have a stud outside to pair with Stevie. I just think there will be too much inconsistency at that position this year. Chandler is a nice TE but he is in no way elite. If there is an athletic game changing TE available, that could be a great pick. Tackles are always going to be valuable to Nix, so I'd always have that in the top 5. Same thing goes for pass rushers.. cant have enough good rotation guys. I really don't think OLB is going to be a draft priority. They arent super important in our defensive scheme and we just spent a couple of picks on LBs this past year. -
I don't get the hate on MJD (not just singling out you eball).. He had the best year of his career last year in terms of yards and ypc. He did all this on one of the worst offensive teams we have ever seen. Did you know that the jaguars were last in the league in passing yards? 136 yards per game! Despite this, MJD managed 4.7 yards per carry.. even though every defensive he played knew he was the only guy to stop. He's still only 27 years old and is an absolute work horse. No offense to Freddy.. but I would trade him for MJD in a heartbeat. This guy is one of the most consistent producers in the league on one of the worst offenses we have ever seen. MJD should be top 3.

Precisely! Potter pooches precision punts perennially! I think you should make a thread for bills alliteration!

Tom Brady was a 5th round pick. Ryan Leaf was a 1st round pick. What does their draft position have to do with anything? I have to disagree with your assessment of value on the 2 positions. If you want to talk about the draft.. why not talk about something relevant. Like the fact that LT are constantly picked in the top 5 draft choices and C don't usually start going until the 2nd round. Doesn't that mean anything about the value that NFL GMs and coaches see in the 2 positions? You can make your argument that you dont need a good LT to win a superbowl, but I can easily make the same argument that you don't need a good C. Giants: Baas Packers: Wells Saints: Goodwin Steelers: Hartwig Thats just the last 4 years. There's a reason that the average fan has not heard of most of the guys on that list. If you think C is more valuable than LT, than you're ignoring some obvious evidence that points against that argument.
-
So would you rather have a pro bowl LT or a pro bowl C? I disagree that C is the key position on the line. Of course you'd rather have a good player there than a bad one, but the drop off is less noticeable than if you lost one of the other line positions. Also.. can you name the C for the giants? You can win championships without a good C...

Regardless of how explosive he looks now.. I'm taking the odds on him getting injured in the first 6 weeks.

To be honest I dont really get all the votes for Wood. He plays a position that really doesn't have a huge importance. He hasn't played a full season since he was drafted and we've had guys plugged in at C that have done just fine. Also, Levitre is much more of a "star" on the o-line than Wood is at this point. I think it has to be Freddy. He does it all for this team and as much as I like Spiller, he just don't have the same versatility and experience yet.

Wanny's record as a DC speaks for himself. He's always been successful on that side of the ball and he's a great fit for our defense how its currently constructed. You have to look at the bills right now and love how their put together from a coaching and management standpoint. For the first time in years they have a great offensive mind and a great defensive mind at the same time. We've got the talent and the direction to be competitors this year. I cant wait for September.

What's in it for Rogers Communications?
Billsrhody replied to Rivermont Mike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very interesting post. I could absolutely see Roger's becoming a huge player for the bills after Ralph passes (if he passes). Hopefully by the time that happens, the bills have been a solid contender for several years and the smart money is to keep them in WNY. -
Why are Pats the measuring stick for ALL teams?
Billsrhody replied to PatsFanNH's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They are the measuring stick because they are the best franchise in the league over the past 12 years -

Rooneys Pittsburgh vs Ralph
Billsrhody replied to Buffaloed in Pa's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Essentially the Steelers have done everything right and the Bills have done everything wrong (at least in the past decade). These to franchises serve as a perfect, "what to do" vs "what not to do" in smaller markets. -
If Vince young is that bad.. then why did they bring him in at all? Obviously they saw something they liked. How about adding in his 900 rushing yards and 9 rushing TDs for those two seasons as well? The man made the pro bowl for a reason.. you can't just dismiss it as unimportant. Voting breaks down like this: 1/3 players, 1/3 coaches, 1/3 fans. How is that a popularity contest?
-
Woah slow down.. its not like we're talking about Brady or Manning. This is Ryan Fitzpatrick, you know, the journey man QB who hasn't proved he can win consistently. Why can't Vince Young be at least as good as that? Anyone who puts Fitz on such a high pedestal is blinded by fanhood.
-
So what happens if the Bills start out 0-8 and Fitz has thrown 4 tds and 15 ints? All I'm saying is.. its not impossible that Vince gets a shot.
-
That doesn't mean things cant change

Fitzpatrick under the gun Mr. Sandman is now looking over Fitzpatrick's shoulder. The Bills signed former Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Vince Young to a one-year contract earlier this month. Young is making backup money (only $350,000 of his contract is guaranteed) and the two-time Pro Bowler is saying all the right things in accepting a backup role, but Young is a 6-foot-5, 243-pound quarterback with a great arm, two Pro Bowls on his resume and more mobility than Fitzpatrick. If the Bills struggle on offense, and the heat gets turned up on Gailey, how long can he wait before making a switch? Fitzpatrick's contract contained $24 million in guaranteed money, of which $15 million -- a $10 million signing bonus from last October and $5 million option bonus from March -- has already been paid. The $2.88 million in partially guaranteed base salary in 2012 is safe, but that's not the case for the remaining $6.2 million. Another average season while running in place in the win column could prompt the Bills to consider cutting ties with Fitzpatrick, whose cap number is set to jump from $6 million in 2012 to $10.45 million 2013. That decision would likely be made before a $3 million roster bonus comes due on the second day of the 2013 league year. Is Vince Young really a threat to start?

No seriously Eli... stop staring at my beard.
