Failing Cities And Their Common Denominator
Wacka replied to 3rdnlng's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Twitter was going to be in the suburbs but located in an area of SF that needed revitalization . What influenced them was the tax cuts the city offered. This will lead to more property tax revenue, sales tax, jobs and better economic health. Facebook was not offered a tax cut. After Oracle bought Sun, Sun's campus in Menlo Park at the base of the San Mateo Bridge was empty and Facebook bought it. It was cheaper for them to be based there (because of the lack of tax incentives). Where do you live ? (general area only is necessary). -

In the last 60 years, Buffalo has had only one Republican mayor, Chester Kowal who served one term(1962-1965). All of this time, the city has been decling in population. Coincidence? I looked at the house I lived in from 2-4 (Wick Street- near Broadway and Bailey, thank got we moved to Cheektowaga). On Google Street View, the house I lived in is still there and it looks lived in. The one to the right is boarded up. The ones behind it on Lidell have all ben torn down. I read in the BN about a burning car was found with a body in it on Swinburne (next to St John Kanty's Church). On Google Street view, evert house on that block was boarded up or torn down. My godmother and her husband lived on Goodyear between Sycamore and the RR tracks to the south. They were the last white family on the block. The block was solid with occupied homes. They had someone steal their car from their driveway in broad daylight while they were home. They twice had someone break in and fight with my godmother's husband. Her daughter drove by there a few years ago (never again she said) and said the roof of the porch was collapsed. That home is still on Google Street View In that whole block, only eight homes are still standing. A few are still occupied Don't blame the landlords. My B-I-L 's fried owned the house across from my godmothers. He made all the required upgrades before he rented it out the first time. The tenants ended up breaking all the windows and destroying at least 3 bathroom sinks and toilets. He just gave up and let the city take the property. If Buffalo would be up to date on tearing down vacant buildings, it would look like Detroit. -

Margret Sanger's dream has almost been reached. For the ignorant, Margret Sanger (PP founder) was a racist eugenicist. She founded PP to get rid of the "undesireables" (poor and blacks) in society. She even enlisted black pastors to help her. -

This BS about Denny's has been ginned up by the clan with a tan (Jessie and Al). Many Denny's not at exits that are busy 24/7 had only a waitress and cook working at night, the manager would go home at midnight and the manager of the whole store would come in at 6 AM( I worked ay one about 30 years ago). A bus with a black choir pulled into one after midnight. The waitress told them of the staffing situation and it would likely be at least an hour before everyone could be served. If they wanted quicker service, they could go to the nearest Denny's that had a much larger staffThey even offered to call that store and have them prepare for the rush and start preparing the drinks. The director of the choir took this as racism and got the klan wit a tan involved. PS: "The klan with a tan" was coined by Thomas Sowell. If you don't know who he is, look him up. PSS: I also live in CA. I am a white man of Polish extraction and a Bills fan. I am also a minority. -

Out here in CA, the Bills games start at 10 AM. When Bethlehem Steel was open, they bars nearby would open at 7 AM for the night workers. When I was young, I worked at a Denny's. On a St.Pat's Day had to work 3rd shift, After putting up with all the drunks all night, we went to Como Park. One of the people had a couple of six-packs of Genny Cream. Were sitting there drinking while the park workers came by to pick up the garbage. They asked what we were doing there. We explained ,offered them a beer and finished off the beer about 10 AM -

Obama was in Fresno and Los Banos for a total of 3 hours (including travel), He played golf on both Saturday and Sunday.Spent at least 2x as long on golf rather than the problems he claimed to come here for. It was a golf trip with a short visit to the Central Valley thrown in. We have had 1.85 " since last spring where the normal is about 12.5" at this time of year. -

I had my wisdom teeth out and the first thing I remember telling my dad afterward was that I could drive home. "I've driven drunker than this." He told me to shut the hell up. -

Biden's assassination insurance. Even mentally ill people are not crazy enough to shoot Obama and have Biden become president. -

In the pilot, Carl Reiner played Dick Van Dyke's role. Reiner has said it was based on his time at Your Show of Shows.

Didn't re-read it after typing. At least the autocorrect on my iPhone is a lot more intrusive. The one in Safari isn't. -

Do we see piles of dead bodies in Buffalo in the winter? No. The bums have enough sense to go to the shelters and behave when it is life threatening. The only case i remember hearing of is someone my dad worked with. The guy was a drunk and the the union even said they wanted him gone but the contract forbade them. The guy passed out in a snowbank near his house and froze to death. -

Santa Rosa is about 50-60 miles north of SF. They got 5-10of rain inches over the weekend.Just south of SF was the line between the heavy and light rain.Sundaymorning. I was driving on the Interstate west towards the bay an then headed south to San Jose. North of the highway , nothing food be sen after about 2-3 miles. South of the highway, it was clearing up and the rain stopped in a nile or two. Didn't rain the rest of the day. -
