  1. I sure hope not. He had very good talent in New Orleans and could not win with them. What's he going to do with Buffalo?!
  2. Like Martz a lot as OC. His record is solid, the only issues are personality conflicts. I wanted the Bills to bring him in as OC at the start of this season... but no... Mixed on him as HC. His track record there wasn't as strong. Better than Jauron though.
  3. You mean the same style that Green Bay uses?
  4. This is JMO, but the modern Pittsburgh style 3-4 relies on big DLs to stop the run and complex rush/blitzes from the LBs and DBs to generate pressure on the QB. It looks good against weak OLs or QBs, but I don't believe that you can rely on frequent blitzing in the playoffs against strong offenses. They will beat you for big plays. You have to be able to dominate the line of scrimmage with your base personnel and the best way to do this is to have 4 athletic big men up front. Now, Pittsburgh has won two super bowls using this defense but both Seattle and Arizona moved the ball very effectively against their defense in the Super Bowls and it was their offense that won them those games.
  5. Well, it worked out well for JJ. Two straight SBs, including the best team of all time in 1993, IMO. The 3-4 is just the current fad, like when everyone was switching to the 4-3 about 10 years ago. The Bill's problem is that they don't have a dominating DL.
  6. Exactly my thoughts on the matter. Sullivan's column is irrelevant. He provides no news or original information and all I have to do to hear people slam the Bills is read a few forums on this board.
  7. Very nice work. I love "The Champion"
  8. If I hear this again, I think I'm going to snap. What in the world makes anyone think that Maybin can plan OLB in a 3-4? His primary responsibility would be to rush the QB against the opposing tackles. The exact same thing that he is failing at now. Maybe in a 3-4 he would occasionally face a RB or TE instead, but in exchange for this he would have to cover TEs and RBs once in a while too and I am skeptical of his ability to do this.
  9. My thoughts as well, but that can be ok as long as he gets a good, established defensive coordinator and gives him the authority to make the decisions about the D.
  10. A very real possibility. I agree that the benching deserves a little more coverage than it is getting. It seems that people are too busy pulling coaching candidates out of their hat to cover the current team.
  11. Maybe if the Bills switch to a 3-4. But in a 4-3, I was always in the Jimmy Johnson camp... Dominant and deep DL + everyone fast as heck behind them.
  12. Who cares about Brohm or Hamden? They are both #3 QBs and now we're talking about them as potential starters?? I hope that these aren't the kind of moves that the Bills are planning.
  13. Come on. Fewell's just the interim coach. What difference does it make?
  14. The Titans weren't averaging 10 yards per play, so the percentages say to accept he penalty... especially if you can make Vince Young throw it one more time. Picking him off was always the Bill's best chance.
  15. Exactly. Either as an OLB in a 3-4 or DE in 4-3 he's still got to pass rush against the tackle and he obviously can't do that.
  16. The Jests are averaging 4.8 ypc, #4 in the NFL. Miami is #8 at 4.5. Also, I wouldn't put Thomas Jones in either Ricky Williams or Ronny Brown's class.
  17. Keep Jauron. He's just been unlucky these past few years...
  18. If Cutler is no better than Losman, then the Bills need to hire Mike Shanahan asap because he got Cutler to the pro bowl so imagine what he could do with our current QBs. I think that what's happening in Chicago is the same as what's happening in Buffalo: it doesn't really matter who you bring in when you don't have a sound offensive coaching staff or philosophy.
  19. You missed another key reason that Miami is effective with the Wildcat: they have two very good running backs and a very physical offensive line.
  20. I wouldn't exactly call Oman "failed". He never got much of a chance and looked fine when he was in there. Frankly, not cutting a receiver is ridiculous. Besides the obvious lack of depth it creates at the RB position, how is Hardy ever going to get reps if there are 6 other guys eating them up.
  21. Why not go for Peyton Manning or Drew Brees. They are even better...
  22. Getting Vick would be a mistake. He is NOT a long term solution and the Bills have stop gap guys now. I suggest that they work on the OL and defensive front seven in the offseason and draft and then deal with QB. If they draft another QB and try to play him behind this line, he will quickly be destroyed.
