  1. It's all guesswork of course, but I think this is probably right. Buddy felt that the team had to many needs not to take a player that he had rated higher just so they could get a QB. Besides the comment above, he has also since said that he thinks the Bills have filled most of their other major holes- which would lead one to think that he may "reach" for a QB in round 1 or trade picks to try and move up to get one. Marv didn't exactly get it done in the GM role. I'm not sure that his example is one to emulate. The example you site is just one of many gaffes.
  2. I wonder who the new TBD whipping boy will be once Kelsay leaves? Any thoughts? I guess Fitz is still there or whomever his replacement is. I predict that by the end of next season it will Eric Pears.
  3. Remember, it can always get worse. Always.
  4. Is this true? Now you can't even post a link? That's pretty bad. Maybe if you send these to the Giant, Colt or Raven GMs they'd agree to trade their QBs for Fitz. Maybe.
  5. You could make a good case that Eugene Marve was one of the most underrated Bills players ever. He clearly doesn't belong on this list.
  6. I don't think Chan had any idea whose turn it was. That was between CJ and Fred
  7. Spencer Johnson started several games at LOLB after Kelsay was hurt in 2011. Look up the box score for the Redskins game for example. They list him as DE but they have 3 DEs starting. He was Kelsay's replacement as the "hybrid" LOLB/DE. He actually played pretty well in that game but was woefully out of position for the rest of the year. Again, I'm not proposing that we put Johnson in at LB. I suggest we actually show a OLB at this position. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/201110300buf.htm
  8. Can't agree with Jerry Crafts at guard. He was primarily a tackle backup IIRC and while he was abysmal at tackle he was not the worst guard in team history. Also, Kelsay doesn't belong at OLB on his list. If you're going to list him there then you'd better but Spencer Johnson or Alex Carrington at OLB ahead of him because both started games at that position and were worse than Kelsay.
  9. How about Terrance Pennington or Marcus Spriggs at OT? or Billy Conaty at Center? or Bennie Anderson at G? This game is easy.
  10. Yes. It won't be as easy when the majority of passes stop coming out in 2 seconds and running plays aren't primarily against nickel defenses. And if Fitz goes then they also lose his ability to read blitzes and adjust the blocking scheme/play to compensate, which is the best thing that he does, IMO. I think that there is some talent on the OL but I don't expect them to look as good as they have the last couple of seasons.
  11. Exactly. The best way for the average american to fight terrorism is not through shared sacrifice. It's by spending money like a drunk to keep our debt ridden, consumer spending driven economy humming along. Wait, that didn't work out so well.
  12. He did well in Gailey's OL friendly system but got exposed when he went to Philly. I hope that the same thing doesn't happen to some of the other linemen with the change in regime here in Buffalo.
  13. I came away with three thoughts after reading the article: 1. We were mislead as to how close Troup was to coming back last year. 2. His goal is to weigh between 315 and 320? That's smaller than Marcel Dareus. No way that he can play NT at that weight, not even considering that his back problems may hinder his ability to take on double teams. He talks about playing from "sideline to sideline", but the Bills already have 4 "sideline to sideline" DTs. They need a space eater. 3. No one knows if Troup will be able to come back next season or if he will be any good if he does He hasn't played for two years and he was just a rookie then so at this point it's pie in the sky.
  14. Why was he cut? I thought he was really solid last year. Salary cap?
  15. weak? 19 carries, 110 yards, 5.8 ypc, 1 TD Maybe if they gave him the ball a few times when it was 1st and goal in the 4th Q this game would've ended differently.
  16. It's not who has the best team, it's the team that plays best on Sunday. The 49ers didn't even play a full half of their best football let alone a whole game. They have no one to blame but themselves.
  17. This sounds like the defense that the Bills should play- M Williams, Carrington, Dareus, K Williams and Anderson/Kelsay as the 5 DL. Could always drop Williams or Anderson/Kelsay into coverage as occasional surprise moves to turn it into a 4-3 or 3-4 look.
  18. Draft a MLB and play a 4-3 defense similar to the Giants or the Rams. That would be the best fit for the current personnel going forward, IMO. Or they could blow it up and start over again, which sounds more like the Bills.
  19. This argument does hold some weight with me but I think the reaction to ban all PEDs across the board is over the top. And if this is the basis of the rule then why allow injections of pain killers to get hurt players back on the field? It's certainly not good for them long term to be aggravating injuries and turning them into potentially chronic conditions after they retire. And there's a lot of pressure to take them too and "not let your team down".
  20. If these "smart drugs" have acceptable side effects then what would be the problem with people taking them? Since everyone can't do it that means that no one can?
  21. Disregarding the obvious math error for a second, if the Bills had to put 6 LBs on the field at one time who would they be??? They don't even have 1 legitimate starting NFL LB let alone 6. How about Pettine follow the age old coaching rule of building your schemes around your players and focus on ways to take advantage of the few good players you have. On the Bills that would be the DL. They'd be better off running a 5-1-5 Nickel than a 1-5-5.
  22. Except that he said he believed that by following the book his performance would have probably improved. However that didn't really matter to him. I guess he fits right in with a team that never has a winning record or makes the playoffs.
  23. http://www.grantland...sk-ped-question The one question that I have that he never really asks is "Does anyone really care if these guys are on PEDs?" I think that many people assume that it's basically a level playing field with most everyone taking drugs who wants to and that "performance enhancing drugs" have been around since stimulants and pain killers were used in the 60s or even earlier. The only people who really follow the rules against PEDs are the honest people and that allows the dishonest people to dominate. And comparing records across eras is impossible for many reasons besides the improvements in PEDs, including the improvements in other training techniques, strategies, overall health, funding, etc.
