  1. The view from the outside is that the Steelers are weak at corner and OL. If this is true, that is a bad combination to match up with the Bills.
  2. If the defense plays better there will be less need to score late in games. Miami(1), LA Rams, LVR, Arizona, Seattle, etc. were games where the offense created big leads early and the defense gave up some 2nd half scores to close the gap. If the defense gets after the other offense more when leading by more than one possession the Bills offense can play more often in kill the clock mode.
  3. The results of NFL preseason games have little meaning but.............the AFC is currently 32-8-1 vs, the NFC with Jax leading the Cowboys. Last year's regular season record was 35-28-1 in favor of the AFC. I did these numbers without benefit of writing anything on paper so I might be a little off but I think this might be a meaningful trend, That interconference record is going to tilt even more to the AFC this year.
  4. I was thinking of that too. With QBs off limits to defensive player hits during training camp, ball security during the car wreck forces of NFL hits is impossible to simulate. On the other hand, Josh had two fumbles vs. the Jets in the 2019 opener as well. Not likely that a series or two in the last preseason game will remind him of what he needs to do to protect the ball while being hit.
  5. LOL. Ok. Maybe when the gout clears out of my feet. I posted this back thread but here is Bashem launching into Josh's helmet after the ball was out. Camera work is fuzzy, but this was a launch. Feet off the ground, legs parallel like Eddie the Eagle ski jumping. Near as I could tell there was not a fine.
  6. Thanks for the quote. .................leaves both feet prior to contact.............The side of Smith's helmet did hit Smith's facemask after the initial impact. Yes, penalty. Launch no. Dirty no. But, different opinions make for a more interesting discussion. It happens often enough where the hit will be waist high and the impact and/or QBs' own movement will drive him backwards and the defender slides down toward the QB's knee area by the time they land. Penalty. Get used to them. We will see a bunch of them.
  7. A launch would have both feet off the ground before impact and the legs parallel. This is running through the tackle. You do realize that it is normal for any runner to have both feet off the ground during their stride?
  8. Funny how people can see the same play but see it differently. Smith's right foot was in the turf and his face mask struck Fields"shoulder. Thus, not lanched and not hitting him in the face with his helmet. Notice Fields still looking at the defense at the moment of impact. But, get used to these calls. There will be way more of them with an improved pass rush. Just a violent, legal hit often looks like a penalty.
  9. He was hit like that (worse imo) in game 1 by NYJ DE Bashem. The camera did not catch it too well and Josh completed the pass to Knox so it was not such a big deal, game effect wise. Josh had the ball out well before the hit.
  10. My bad. I should have realized that the vast majority of us are conditioned to pay no attention at all to PSAs.
  11. I saw this Tweet and came here expecting to see a Josh Allen Placed on COVID List! thread. People have no sympathy for Bills fans with weak hearts. This is a preemptive thread with a safe title.
  12. If Phillips is just out for a few weeks I think he'll make the 53. Maybe inactive for a time and then used. He's been good in the two games, has fought through rehabbing both knees and spent time in the offseason working with the Bills training staff to reshape his body. He is a "trust the process" player and cutting him loose sends the wrong message to the rest of the team. I really hope it's minor and not a threat to roster or season status. From TBN. "Phillips spent the majority of the 2021 offseason in Buffalo, something that Sean McDermott took note of. The head coach recently told reporters that Phillips was at the facility, “helping lead our football team,” throughout the offseason before suggesting that he expects the defensive tackle to take a leap in his second year back from his injury. In the face of adversity – an ACL tear, a temporary fall down the depth chart, and a brutal postseason loss – Phillips has not only battled back to full health, but he’s also evolved into a leader, a role model who sets the standard for his teammates on and off the field." I do not think Brandon/Sean gives up on this man unless he is unavailable for a longer stretch of time.
  13. 88 degree day and Bills are physically dominant. Only player I saw sucking wind was Mackenzie because he was being used so much. Maybe related to the muffed punt.
  14. I was reading from the same script. That's the tone I'd expect Sean to use. Let's say Dion had more severe symptoms, lost some weight and is short of breath and fatigues easily. That would make him far from being ready. These guys do everything to make themselves available to play under all circumstances. If he had a tougher time with the virus and was vaccinated, I could see why Sean would be somewhat irked and refers to it as another teachable example.
  15. Speaking of Ducks, reading these posts I am reminded of the first time I saw Duck Hodges throwing live vs the Bills on the SNF broadcast. I immediately got extremely confident.
  16. Lots of people to blame. Referee will often automatically reset the play clock after the ball is marked ready for play, Or a player asks for the reset. I blame Rex for not knowing it was going on. Did not know the stuff about how the NFL responded.
  17. Yeah, he two hand slammed his helmet after a PI no call at the end of the 2nd quarter. Levy told one of them they had been bought as the headed to the half time locker room. The official said something about equal opportunity for the ball but Brad Edwards played right through Andre. It's at 1:31:02 of this video. I feel the need to enlighten the younger TBD members about the past. Andre spikes helmet
  18. I love the effort but may I suggest "aquatic" as this is an adjective that does apply to fish. "To make his name aquatic."
  19. I think this contract sets him up to earn more over his career than Mahomes. So, the answer is yes.
  20. Imo, the two best Tyrod Taylor games of the season were both losses. The Seahawks and the Dolphins II. The critical plays, at least the ones that convinced me that Rex had to go were these: On Dan Carpenters FG attempt Richard Sherman hit him after a whistle blow injuring him. Buffalo then took an illegal formation penalty as Carpenter made his 30 yd kick. Back five yards Carpenter missed his FG after making the prior two and Buffalo still trailed by two scores at 28-17. 1st & 10 at SEA 35 (0:03 - 2nd) D.Carpenter 53 yard field goal is No Good, Short, Center-G.Sanborn, Holder-C.Schmidt. PENALTY on SEA-R.Sherman, Defensive Offside, 5 yards, enforced at SEA 35 - No Play. Unabated to the kicker. (But the late whistle allowed Sherman to hit Carpenter--legally) (0:03 - 2nd) Timeout #4 by BUF at 00:03. Trainer came on to the field to attend to #2. Charged 4th? timeout to #2. He has to leave for next play 1st & 5 at SEA 30 (0:03 - 2nd) J.Williams spiked the ball to stop the clock. 2nd & 5 at SEA 30 (0:01 - 2nd) (Field Goal formation) PENALTY on BUF-D.Carpenter, Delay of Game, 5 yards, enforced at SEA 30 - No Play. 2nd & 10 at SEA 35 (0:01 - 2nd) (Field Goal formation) D.Carpenter 54 yard field goal is No Good, Wide Right, Center-G.Sanborn, Holder-C.Schmidt. In the confusion of the Sherman hit on Carpenter (late whistle for unabated) his removal from the game for one play, the need to spike followed by the officials trying to sort out the situation. They started the play clock and it got down to 8 seconds before the ball was finally marked. It hit zero for a noticeable period of time before anyone involved with the game noticed, including the refs one of which finally threw the flag. No one got the play clock reset. No one on the Bills side noticed this error. Neither player on the field nor Rex nor someone on his bloated 27 member coaching staff. A small detail ti which no one paid attention. Did the Bills defense only have 10 men on the field during Ajayi's backbreaking 57 run into Bills territory in OT? Yep. Two years into his coaching Rex still couldn’t even get the proper number of players on the field. The worst about this sequence was that after the punt, controversial as it was, there was a TV timeout. So there was an extended amount of time for someone to count to 10. Another detail that slipped by Rex and staff. What was the silver lining in these two events? I think it made it clear in Terry and Kim's mind that their big splash, "send a message to the league" hire was a mistake. That he neither paid attention to details, delegated responsibility nor held the right people accountable, thus creating the mindset about the qualities they wanted in their new coach hire: A leader of men who was obsessed with details, be they important or seemingly trivial. That whole "for want of a nail the kingdom was lost" mentality. Because of Rex, they had a new appreciation for a HC candidate like Sean.
