Saturday Football Thread: PIT@BAL & HOU@KC (no Bills stuff please)
May Day 10 replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
This may be career ruining for Dell, unfortunately. Really bad timing for him where he stands on his rookie deal. I'd be surprised if he plays in 2025. Can't imagine he will get his speed back anytime soon. Stroud looks very unimpressive this year. -
The solution is so clearly obvious, and unanimously, all observers have the same conclusion. The fact that Pegula cannot or refuses to see this is infuriating. Like how greedy and selfish can someone be?

Over the top crying for a leg injury and they fold, especially their qb -
I'm not so sure they are "nice guys" based on what kevyn adams had to stoop to in order to land a position he had no experience to get
-
That would be a bad one
-
They have a philosophy of rushing most prospects into the nhl with no development. Adams, pegula, and the other dummies think they will just figure things out. Not the case. it's bad. Perception of this mess is through the floor. Its not weather trees and taxes because this is coming from a Minnesota player. Just keep trudging though. Magically it'll all come together like a Disney movie
-
The team won't go on a run They are the way they are because it starts at the top. Ownership is toxic and this is the 3rd 10+ losing streak under adams, and it seems his job is secure. This is who they are. Bottom 3rd of the nhl and ruining young players. It doesn't matter who they draft, who the coach is, or even who the gm is, as long as the top priority is communication.
-
I just hope that McDemott and Beane's tenure out-lasts Terry Pegula Or we will be subject to whack pack dysfunction of boat ride trades, Marrone quitting, 'dont let him leave the room', the Rex Ryan posse, throwing Anthony Lynn in front of a locomotive, and Doug Whaley's confusing press conference where he said he wasnt 'privy' to who the coach was. We got a nice taste before McDermott came in with his iron will.
-
Yup. This team/franchise will never get better until he is gone. Guys in their 70s dont change. Nobody should buy a ticket or spend a dime on the Sabres moving forward.
-
I answered too Hire a credible and experienced team president who would build an actual pro sports front office (and hire a gm). Terry pegula goes away with his communication, collaboration, and daily phone calls. It's a mickey mouse pre sports franchise who made the jr sabres guy general manager and have like an assistant coaches from buff state as the director of scouting The rot is so deep and extensive in this franchise, no moves (coach, player, half measure hire of a gm is going to change anything. Internally and perceptions in the hockey world, the sabres are poison. They need to essentially rebrand with a new credible leader. I actually believe that players would respond on the ice and you would see immediate improvement. Expectations and standards would immediately be raised across the board. The team got worse after adams' presser about how nobody wants to play here and no help is coming. As long as I remember, management speaks and acts like they are perpetually on year 1 or 2 of a 4 year rebuild. It's all a stall tactic and bleeds into the lockerroom
-
Don't worry. Just a touch more collaboration with Terry and it'll all be fixed!

I used to like the running 538 one, as it used all sorts of measurable criteria and interesting. Now, they normally resemble the standings. Then stupid little biases like you cant drop KC below X because they won the Superbowl.
-
I wouldnt say anyone in the NFL is over 30% right now. If the Bills can lock in the #2 seed, I feel pretty good, maybe 50% to make the Superbowl. The Eagles and Lions scare me. Id give the Bills maybe a 50/50 shot at winning against either of those (and I would say its a 75% chance it is either of those). So let's call it 27%, which I consider really high. They seem fairly healthy (knock on wood), and they should have a rest-week regardless of obtaining the 1 seed. I would rather avoid Baltimore and Pittsburgh in the WC and Div round, but I'm not all that worried about the Chiefs, even on the road.

It was always Bruce Smith. Probably the best player at his position of all time and the all-time sack leader. But it is Josh Allen. IMO he may be the most athletic and electrifying QB of all-time. He is like Payton Manning meets Ben Rothlisberger meets Mike Vick. Seeing him enter his peak years is a thing of wonder. The total touchdown number is going to be staggering. He is already knocking on the door of the top-100 all time in rushing & receiving TDs, and could realistically enter the top 50 next year, surpassing guys like OJ, Thurman, Calvin Johnson, Herschel Walker, Earl Campbell, Frank Gifford, and Travis kelce. Passing touchdowns alone he is #61. Add in his other touchdowns and he is top-25 of all time for QBs, and just a season or 2 from jumping into really elite air. Thinking if he enjoys a full and healthy career, and with at least 1 superbowl, he could have a place on the Mt Rushmore of NFL quarterbacks.

First, I don't expect pegula change his stripes at this point. He believes he has a great management structure, loves the communication and trust between him and adams. If they have to make a move, it'll be a russ brandon shuffle where everyone just changes job titles. Seth appert is overtly being groomed to be the head coach and will take over sooner or later, again with no coaching search for the 3rd coach in a row. There is a tapestry of bad decisions and mismanagement. These results are going to continue into perpetuity, well after appert's replacement is groomed and takes over. The absolute ceiling is snaking a wild card spot (16th of 32 teams) one year and losing in the first round. If pegula changed, and put someone with credibility at the top who was free to do as he pleases, with a more open budget, I would sign up for another rebuild in a second and be excited about the team acting and being structured as a professional franchise. This existence is no existence at all and the Sabres are nothing to me as an entertainment product. My hockey loving kids couldn't care less about them (which is sad). Let this be a cautionary tale for bills fans who want to turf McDermott and/or beane. We better hope their tenure here out-lives terry.

Adams, as well as most of the unqualified upper managers they have in the hockey department, and most/all of the coaching staff. The only hire needs to be a credible guy who will be tasked with rebuilding the organization from the top-down, including hiring a GM. He needs to be given 8 figures and full autonomy and freedom from silly daily phone calls with Pegula. There are a number of experienced and credible people out there who might take that opportunity. I am not sure what the contractual details are for poaching someone from another organization (in like an 'advisor' role) for such a promotion. Waddell was available last Summer, missed out on him. Possibilities off the top of my head, lure Poile out of retirement, Rick Dudley, John Davidson, Colin Campbell, Dean Lombardi
-
He is just here to sell some seats and groom Seth Appert anyway. Its all a joke played on fans of the Sabres.
-
Him not being mobile is a good way to get him seriously hurt behind that o-line They might be smart to sit him out a few weeks, maybe until the playoffs and roll the dice that they can win 2 of 3

There is nothing to cheer for. However, the arena does have an assist. That bubble roof takes noise away and makes the arena way less intimate-feeling than other venues. But the game presentation is hideous. The entire game (starting an hour prior) is a bombardment of ultra-loud, shrill sounds, bad techno/noise/"music". Even the PA announcer makes me cringe its so loud. Any time the crowd starts, there is some awful ultra loud music, promotion, or something else that stomps all over it. For example, UPL made a great save last game, everyone, the only non-Dion Dawkins related excitement all game, people got up an cheered... but immediately "THATS THE TOYOTA BIG SAVE OF THE GAME!!!!" overly loud, followed by some super loud save of the game theme song that shut everyone up and put them in their seats. When the game is going on and there is quiet, I feel my senses recovering and my head decompressing to a normal pressure. The last thing I want to do is make any sort of noise. The pregame hype video is super loud and super long. At the end of it, there is super-loud shrill crowd noise. Then the piped-in-crowd stops and everyone/everything is in silence. You look around and everyone is sitting there doing nothing. Its a really awkward/funny moment every game. Going to a Sabres game feels like going to the movies.

The Bills were run in a similar fashion than the Sabres are now (flat structure with owner-trust being the most important trait, control costs). However, those Bills at least were fun most of the time and only really had 2 terrible seasons. They usually were able to jump back in the race for the playoffs at various times (only to deflate us). The Bills never really bottomed out. The Sabres have been a level of bad that exceeds what the Bills did. They are almost always considered out of it by November/December. They havent had a really important game in many years. I would also say that bad NHL hockey is the worst product in pro sports. Its awful and boring. Especially the weak, reasctionary team that has been a hallmark of the Pegula era.
