  1. Let's not forget the lengthy conversation he had side-by-side with Dewayne Washington all the way down the sidelines in that Steelers game.
  2. Saw him and the boys at the War Memorial in Rochester during the Wildflowers tour in 1995. I love the net because it has every setlist known to man: I loved Into The Great Wide Open. "The papers said Ed always played from the heart / He got an agent and a roadie named Bart / They made a record and it went in the chart / The sky was the limit..." Must have taken him awhile to come up with that second line.
  3. Well, if the kicking team has to have at least 4 players on either side of the kicker, then doesn't it stand to reason that the RECEIVING team would have to spread out similarly instead of loading up to the side with 10 men? There will still be about an equal number of players from each team fighting for the ball, and more room for each to recover it. Plus it reduces the risk of injury. Sounds good to me.
  4. And not wearing a helmet either.
  5. Oddly enough, Mathison and Todd Collins (who were my top 2) each had one of the more memorable pass plays in Bills history. Mathison hit Jerry Butler with a 50-yard rainbow against Miami in 1985, and TC still owns the record for longest pass play in franchise history (95 yards to Quinn Early). They still sucked though.
  6. Well, to put everything in perspective, the last time we drafted a strong safety in the first round, he held out for most of camp too. Then Henry Jones turned out to be worth the money after all. That said, it's a different world today. Back then, rookies didn't play anyway.
  7. Born in 1969 to a St. Louis Cardinals season ticketholder. Moved to Rochester in 1970; Dad started following the Bills because they were on TV (at least when they weren't blacked out at home) but still rooted for St. Louis. For several years I had an AFC team (the Bills) and an NFC team (the Cards), but the Bills were always first. It was the other way around for Dad until the Cards left for Phoenix in 1987 at which point he wanted nothing more to do with them (and neither did I) First football memory is watching TV with my dad and having him point out #32. First live game was November '79 against the Pats. Been hooked ever since.
  8. My gut is telling me I shouldn't have had that raisin bagel for breakfast.
  9. That would take up room intended for the in-dash LCD satellite TV and DVD player. They were probably watching porno all the way to Boston.
  10. You'd think the Mass Pike tolls might have given them a clue.
  11. At least the plates will still be good this year!
  12. I love that second one... gets you in the mood right away for some BILLS FOOTBALL!! I hope we get to do it a few times this year...
  13. Any football coach who is that good of a golfer ain't spending enough time in his office.
  14. I was at Rich Stadium '90. One of the finest Brokedown Palaces ever.
  15. A friend of mine went to a preseason game during the Stars' first season in Dallas. While the Zamboni was resurfacing the ice during the first intermission, he heard one redneck behind him say to the other redneck: "Hey....how come the ice don't crack?"
  16. I love this thread. Let's see. We're talking about turn-it-up-to-11 songs, right? Well these guys do it better than anyone (and yes, I'm dating myself here): AC-DC Highway to Hell Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution Who Made Who For Those About To Rock (We Salute You) Hells Bells Van Halen The Cradle Will Rock Jamie's Cryin' Runnin' With the Devil I'll Wait Jump Def Leppard Rock of Ages Photograph Bringin' on the Heartbreak Mirror Mirror (Look Into My Eyes) Armageddon It George Thorogood and the Destroyers Bad to the Bone I Drink Alone One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer Lynyrd Skynyrd Sweet Home Alabama What's Your Name Gimme Three Steps Neil Young Ohio Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black) Old Man Mr. Soul Bruce Springsteen Born In The USA Born To Run Darkness on the Edge of Town Racing in the Street Adam Raised a Cain Bob Dylan Visions of Johanna Like A Rolling Stone Forever Young Tangled Up In Blue Desolation Row man... I could go on. And on. And on.
  17. Not that my opinion counts for much, but I tend to agree. For my college friend who passed away this spring, we dedicated our club's tap room (a very fitting choice) to him with a plaque that read as follows: I like that model. For Paul, a simple "from his friends at the Wall" ought to suffice and satisfy all, I hope. It's not an ad for TBD, and only Wallers would know what it means. To whoever is collecting, please put me down for whatever. I enjoyed Paul's posts both here and in my short time at PPP, and I wish I'd known him better.
  18. Here's one. Those who do not know their history...
  19. One of which was Bill Laimbeer.
  20. I haven't checked TSW that much lately, being as wrapped up in the Sabres as I was, and I never knew BiB's real name. I totally missed this thread until now and I'm sorry I did. I just got back from my 15th college reunion where I learned we recently lost a clubmate to a devastatingly sudden and swift illness, and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I couldn't walk around the club without thinking of him, or expecting to see him. The interesting thing is that this happened even though he and I were not close. Not unfriendly, just not close. He had his close social circle and I had mine. Yet I could not imagine the place without him. He was an indelible part of the place's character, and looking back, he made it a better place, a more fun place to be for all of us. That is exactly how I feel about Paul right now. Godspeed and God bless. BRH
  21. For a second there I thought you meant Bill S. Preston, Esquire. Whew.
  22. And you live in the same town as me. Bonus.
  23. That team had Paul Gait! Yes it was an aging, crippled Paul Gait who wouldn't get back on D if his life depended on it, but it was still Paul Gait. And I disagree that the skill level in the NLL is below that of West Genny. Gary Gait? John Grant? John Tavares? Colin Doyle? The list goes on. I am a charter K'hawks season ticketholder; my seats are right at midfield. I've been blessed to watch first Gait and then Grant for the last 12 years. It may be that Syracuse just doesn't cotton to the indoor game much. The Lockwoods and Powells of the world, their size-speed combination just doesn't translate to a smaller field and increased physical play. To use another example, Kevin Lowe was one of field lacrosse's most brilliant playmakers in the early '90s for Princeton. He got to the NLL and... pffft. It's apples and oranges.
