  1. Which explains the whole line about "he worked summers in a steel mill to earn money for college" that Bush spouted last night. I'm sure he was sweating in the foundry.
  2. He's been in Washington since well before the Colts left Baltimore. And at 50 if he left at age 6 or 7, he was only in Buffalo for the first couple of years of the Bills' existence, if that. My money is on him being a Redskins fan. Plus Tim Russert would have noted tonight on MSNBC if he were a Bills fan, and he didn't.
  3. At this point all I know is that he was born in Buffalo. He could be about as much "from" Buffalo as Tom Cruise is "from" Syracuse. I'm sure we'll find out more soon.
  4. So as not to get this moved to PPP I will refrain from stating my views on any Bush Supreme Court nominee. But I noticed that John Roberts, who will be announced as the nominee to replace "Sandy baby" in about 10 minutes, is originally from Buffalo. Wonder if he's a Bills fan.
  5. The Delta Connection terminal in Cincy is the most godforsaken cattle ranch on earth. I cringe every time I have to have a layover there.
  6. But he didn't say anything about the coffee!
  7. It's almost fifteen years since the kick and I still haven't watched it on tape.
  8. Andre isn't even getting any love from his own home state. Just eight percent out of Pennsylvania. That point about all the other candidates having TV gigs says it all.
  9. Weekend At Bernie's.
  10. Actually, though, 85 bucks is pretty much a bargain to see a guy of his stature. What are the Stones charging? McCartney? The Eagles? I put him right up there with those folks and they're charging well into the three digits. Anyway, this time around he does have a piano. And he did "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)" on it last night. I almost died.
  11. Don't you know? He used, like, three and four-syllable words. That was a bit too much for ol' Boomer.
  12. It's not illegal to lie on your resume (which is partly why so many people do it), but it IS stupid. See, e.g., O'Leary, George. I think the situation is different if you're applying for a specific minority set-aside, like a scholarship for Hispanic students or something -- but in those cases I would think you'd have to provide some evidence of your status. If someone put a minority status on his or her resume, and I interviewed him/her and noted that he/she was as white as the driven snow, I'd certainly at least take that into account. Most people don't get hired without at least one personal interview.
  13. I just wanted to say I love your avatar.
  14. That's very true. And last night he sang 25 songs without a single backup musician or singer. Your line about not just singing a few songs reminds me of when Bob Dylan came to Finger Lakes in 1988 or so and played for about 45 minutes. People were PISSED. Some friends of mine had a comedy gig at the Funnybone at the time, and in one of their skits a guy came out dressed like Dylan, with a guitar and harmonica, sat down, said "Thankyouverymuch," and started playing and then singing in that high nasal twang: "How many roads Must a man walk down Before you can caaall him a maaaan? The answer, my friend, is three. Thank you very much!" Exit stage right.
  15. Surprisingly, there was a lot less of that going around last night for some reason.
  16. I took my 6-year-old daughter to the solo Springsteen show at HSBC last night. It was her first time (and actually her first "grown-up" concert). She, who is already a huge Bruce fan and knows the words to many of his songs, had a great time and I'll remember it forever; a great father-daughter moment. The Boss was in rare form last night. Six tour premieres, including "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)," "Darkness On The Edge Of Town," "You're Missing," "Prove It All Night," plus a killer back-to-back run of "State Trooper" and "Nebraska." I prefer the E Streeters' energy but was pleasantly surprised by the solo show. Cue all the bashers' comments about how he sucks, etc. Just don't get this moved to PPP, please.
  17. It may be heresy to say this, but I'd rather have the '99 Stanley Cup.
  18. And the good thing is that it's the gift that keeps on giving. Now when they try to trade with another team for their RB, they'll get "Well, we heard you would have given the Bills a second for Henry. Based on that, here's what we think our guy's worth."
  19. The one thing with which I disagree is when people say that Nicklaus had better competition in his day. Last night I was listening to someone say on the radio that back in Jack's day "it was blood and guts out there every week" and that one week it was Trevino, the next week Watson, the next Player, the next Floyd, and so on. The guy said there isn't anyone today who can measure up to Jack's old competition and so Tiger has an easier time of it. I think that's a lot of crap. For one thing, top to bottom, 1 to 125, the Tour is MUCH better now than it was back then. Golfers are better athletes now, they train incessantly, they use weights and biomechanical exercises, etc., and improved equipment also narrows the difference between the best and the not-so-best players. Not that the Watsons et. al. weren't great players, but they seemed even better back then because they didn't really have to worry about the Beems, the Curtises, the Micheels and the Hamiltons.
  20. He had even less to do with it than you think.
  21. NFL = Jim Brown. MLB = Babe Ruth. NBA = Michael Jordan. NHL = Gordie Howe. Tennis = Arthur Ashe. Golf = Arnold Palmer. Wrestling (NCAA/Olympic) = Dan Gable. NASCAR = Richard Petty. Track and Field = Jesse Owens. Swimming = Mark Spitz. And no sports Rushmore is complete without Muhammad Ali.
  22. And if he got a #1, some people would B word that it wasn't a top ten pick. And if it was a top ten pick, some people would B word that it wasn't #1 overall. And if it was #1 overall, some people would B word that he should have waited a year because the top pick in 2007 would be a better player than the top pick in 2006.
  23. Isn't that the truth. Signed, Jason Bonsignore
  24. When is the lottery going to be held anyway? And will it even be televised?
  25. Yeah my heart bleeds for them.
