  1. Missed an opportunity there, he did. Imagine the marketing opportunities if he went to the Devils.
  2. I'm sorry... obligatory Carlin quote coming up. I'm a bit of a nervous flier, actually, but I've always combated that by reciting his routine on flying to myself. Hard to be nervous when you're laughing.
  3. Oh but didn't you hear? They've been saved. For the third time in the last two decades.
  4. Bucky's column sounds suspiciously like it was written at the far end of Washington Street and passed up the road to the News building. Just sayin'.
  5. Still not as bad as RJ showing up for camp in that Melrose Place tank top a few years back, or that SI spread of him in the hot tub.
  6. So what you're saying is that you never saw it called that way until after it was called for Brady in the Raiders game?
  7. "Now watch this drive."
  8. If you look up "reaching" in the dictionary, I think this quote might be there. Nobody gets breaks like New England has over the last five years. Nobody. While it's true that good teams make their own breaks, and this team is good, no team is THAT good.
  9. I think Drury will get the C, and deserve it.
  10. Maybe we can sign Andreychuk, May, Mogilny, Trefilov and Beauregard. People here have heard of them at least.
  11. The windmill must have fugged him up on one of the other holes.
  12. Does Buffalo even have a runway long enough to land a widebody, and to get it back in the air (that is key, obviously, unless they want to drive the plane back to Toronto)? I know some DC-10s are able to land and take off on shorter runways, but I'm not sure about the others.
  13. 6/10/93 at Rich was mine. I happened to be in SF when Jerry died, actually. I was standing at Pier 39 the night before he died, looking out at Marin, and for some reason I thought about him. And I'm not a huge Deadhead or anything, just a fan. Then the next morning I woke up and checked AOL (it was ten years ago) and there was the news. Drove down to San Mateo to get some new tires on my truck and the first song that came on my tape deck was "Uncle John's Band." Come along or go alone He's come to take his children home I just about lost it there. Later that day we went up to the Haight and milled around a bit. Then went to GG Park and I saw a car parked with paint on its rear window that read: "Love Is Real Not Fade Away: JG RIP."
  14. They took a good goddamn long time getting a ruling on the "tuck" play too, if I recall right. In a blinding snowstorm no less.
  15. What was it Carlin said about "it's the quiet ones you have to watch out for?" Something about if I'm in a room with a quiet guy and a lunatic comes in waving a machete and yelling like a maniac, I ain't gonna watch the quiet guy.
  16. Especially since they actually play IN Boston...
  17. I did find it interesting how fast Boston folks dumped the Pats as soon as the Red Sox won, though.
  18. Nah that ain't it. As I said, I saw plenty of Pats stuff in previous years. Now, nothing. My guess is that most of the people who wore Pats garb in previous years were just frontrunners. Now they're frontrunning with the Sox instead.
  19. I would like to take this opportunity to point out, apropos of virtually nothing, that I just got back from a week on the Cape and I did not see a SINGLE shred of Pats paraphernalia all week. We go there every year and I usually see tons, especially in the last few years. This year nothing. But I saw a hell of a lot more Red Sox caps and shirts than I've ever seen. To what would you ascribe this phenomenon?
  20. Like I said, we beat his sorry popgun-armed, big-eared ass last year. As an NFL quarterback, Jay Fiedler's a friggin' joke.
  21. We beat him last year, so I'd say the trend is changing. I wouldn't mind seeing him throw another TD pass to TKO in my corner of the end zone, that's for sure.
  22. Almost every one of Fiedler's wins against the Bills came when Greggo was our coach. I discount those completely. It says a hell of a lot about Fiedler's popgun that Pennington's rag arm is probably still stronger than Jay's.
  23. Apparently at least 23% of the voters disagree with you, for they selected Dan Marino. If I were making a list of quarterbacks I'd want to play one game for me -- and I could pick anyone from any era -- Marino wouldn't make my top 20. Kelly sure as hell would.
  24. And now the Jests face the prospect of opening the season with Jay Fiedler as their starting quarterback.
  25. Every year it was the same: he'd "evaluate" the talent in camp and loudly proclaim that the team had the talent to win 12 or 13 games. Then when it didn't happen he would rip the coaches.
