Damn coppers

If there's ever a remake (which if there was it would be pure blasphemy) then might as well have Bogie say that famous yet imagined line, play it again Sam.

Shucks, you turned my world upside down There was something about the original that was special. Now that you make me think more about it, you're right, not all the acting was superb. I would still like to have the remake have quality acting. I wonder what the plot might be tho? North Korea and Iran invading us? Or will it be more true to the cold war?

What's it like being a Bills fan on the West Coast?
Pilsner replied to Pilsner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know we are the most loyal fans ever. But I often wonder if we are the most cerebral bunch as well on here. I cannot fathom any other team's board having the in depth and quality discussions that we have. It's great to know that I'm not alone being a Bills fan who is not from the Buffalo area. You guys and gals are awesome. hmm. might have to start a thread about our cerebralness Phil Hanson and Rockinon, thank you for your service to our nation. I'm sorry if I missed any others. I just very much appreciate ones who serve. -
It's ok. Adriane will find other avenues to tease us. If she's really going to be in the Red Dawn remake that would be awesome (as long as the remake will be a quality one. Most remakes as we all know can't hold a candle to the original) I honestly don't know how they can equal the original. But with a few good twists here and there and with good dialog and acting...then... we shall see. I just hope bras are in short supply and Adriane's character will have to make due with what she can get her mitts on. It was cold during the original too

I'm not sure if it was a Whitworth or a variant. Hinson had his custom made if I recall correctly. I have a biography on him and will have to get started on it to find out what rifle he used. DC Tom you are a wealth of knowledge as are many here on this board.

As some have mentioned it sure is nice to start off a Sunday morning with a 10am Bills game. -

Passion. That is the key. Passion. Not much overcomes that. Passion will see us thru and thru. -
Most peeps are damn lucky to be born or living near Buffalo. But some of us in the periphery have to make due with how our lives have unfolded. How many here are transplants from Buffalo? And how many are fans who never grew up in Buffalo but naturally realized Buffalo is our team (such as me). SF is supposed to be my team. They are fairly close enough and they became my 2nd fav. But for some damn reason Buffalo got a hold of my heart before the Niners could and never let go (and the Niners are damn close to my heart). I'm a hard core Bills fan since 87 and perhaps 86 if pressed. and I'm damn proud of it! How did you all (who live away from Buffalo) get sucked into the awesomeness of being a Bills fan? Did it come as naturally as my situation? Do tell!

I've been hearing good things about Ken Burn's documentaries. I'm looking forward to checking them all out. If it's unbiased then better still. But there is no such thing as unbiased. Nevertheless Ken Burns documentaries here I come. Anyone here know about Jack Hinson? He was an old timer (almost 60) I believe, a semi wealthy farmer, who was neutral to the war, until the North killed two of his sons and put their heads on posts. Then the old timer got upset and got involved and commissioned one of the top sniper rifles of the era (a .50-caliber rifle) and he went on a rampage. In essence Jack Hinson was blood lusted. He waged his own private war against the Union and caused quite a havoc. Ok, havoc is an understatement in Hinson's case. If the Union had left his family alone he would have been but a footnote or less to history. As hard as the Yankees went after him, he was never caught, he knew his territory too well (the Golden Pond area). Just a factoid amongst many of the time. To be fair there must've been an equally adept sniper from the Union. Since this is a War between the States thread, might as well see things from both sides. Not to do so would be... well... not to hold true to a historian's view of accuracy.

Is it just me or is Buddy having a great time?
Pilsner replied to Mark Long Beach's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LOL. If they were in over their heads, yes. If they were not, and they had a good idea of where they were leading the team, then yes too. -
Our run defense has been a sieve and I'm stating that lightly. We have drafted Marcel who's supposed to be great against the run, we got Sheppard and White who are studs stopping the run as well. We got Searcy who is known to put the hard hit on running backs. Also this does not mention the progression of Carrington (known for his run stopping abilities) and Troup's progress as well. Kyle Williams should get better with having an improved Carrington and a stud Dareus in the lineup. Yes, we are in one of the tougher divisions. This is a good thing cause if we can persevere and eventually win this division it'll be a great test of the Bills. When we finally win this division, on a consistent basis (I hope this is the vision of the FO) then every other playoff team should be able to be overcome. The Jests and the Patsies are a great test of where we need to be. When we can beat them on a consistent basis then watch out rest of NFL.

Stevie Johnson in studio for NFL Total Access
Pilsner replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
San Jose that is effin Classic! Maybe saggin will be a bit more meaningful now. Perhaps Stevie will now forward Chan's insight to others. All in all, I luv Stevie's attitude. This man can become something and he will not be denied. It's perseverance like his that makes our eyes open wide. And open up wide our eyes will. -
Damn. If your stats are true, well done. Points well put forth. These are stats that need to be remedied. I'm as effin pollyanna as they come but I am also able to realize delinquencies when they are stated. Good call. This needs to be fixed. This will be fixed.

Harvey I have to agree with you on Cornell Green. Nix has had his miscues. I was more than baffled at the Green signing. It flabbergasted me actually. But I took a step back and realized no FO is infallible. Our FO will make more mistakes from time to time which I expect (no FO is perfect). It's just the nature of things. But overall imo we finally have a FO that will make the best decisions in the long run. For this I am happy. Now back to the main topic. Hellz yes Buddy is having a hellz of a time! Who wouldn't be in his shoes? -
When we first drafted Stevie J I'm sure we all had access to his vids with his college teammates. We all saw him rapping and getting his mates into a frenzy. At the time there was something about the guy. He survived Jaurons two years and finally was able to thrive. I think our Stevie J will up his stats this year. Some men will just not be denied no matter what the obstacles. Perhaps he will be amongst them. I've been a huge Stevie J. fan from the beginning. I guess I shoulda just been more vocal from beginning as well.

I haven't had the chance to read up on Mr. Dareus lately as much as most of you. He seems like a strong willed individual. There seems to be a lot more to him than I realized. We never really know what truelly drives an individual but I think we get a hint of what makes his clock tick. As the time passes and as we get to know him better I get more enamored with what he can do for the Bills. I luv the fact he looks forward to close quarters contact even to fight for inches. He seems to relish this. Some here have busted my chops before for saying this, but from what he says he's the type of guy I would have in a foxhole. He'll hold his own, and he won't hold anyone else accountable except for himself. Talent, hard nosed play, perseverance, and loyalty, and no excuses. That's what I ask for.

Anyone Have Contingencies for Fantasy Football?
Pilsner replied to May Day 10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Madden sim doesn't seem too shabby. But you also have to take into account that the guys who are responsible for madden stat abilities are programmers and QA peeps. Some people who are associated with the NFL by now might be involved but how do they honestly associate rl stats to a game? Also they will use stats from the previous season which we all know don't have that much bearing to the next season. Some breakouts and some regressives. Madden is awesome, I love it, been playing it since it first came out in the early 90's. My brother even was a QA tester for them for a few years and he was able to alter a few stats back in the day (to make them a bit more reasonable). All in all, if there is no season next year, why not, go for it What is the alternative? But damn, I hope there is a season. My group of buddies want to have our draft. It's an annual thing. If there isn't a season we all (or most) shall be looking for other things to carry us over to next year. -
So do I. We got some great talent in the early rounds. Chris White is a stud. He may be a slow stud in some eyes but he's instinctive which is key and he hits hard. This guy is not a puzzy. He'll be where he needs to be and he'll clean your clock. I'm tired of going after quick guys with athleticism and nothing else going for them. I'm severely down (or up with old school)(in a good way) with having guys who are instinctive, know where they need to be and clobber peeps into submission. This man is a bruiser. If he can learn to cover decently than that is a plus. I'm high on Chris White at this pick. I want him to push and if need be supplant Poz if White can indeed handle it. At the very least solid depth.

We all (well most) like to think that superbly athletic guys with gargantuan size and possibly huge upside cannot at all be overlooked by most pro scouts. This is not a perfect world though and people do fall through the cracks. Jasper the Jiant could possibly be our shining gem that could have fallen into our lap. He could also end up being just an average player, but still he fell thru to us at such late a round and might end up being a prize. From what we have seen in his workout video he should've played for a bigger school, but things happen. Things don't always go as planned. Players fall and go unnoticed until they are picked up late and turn into gems. Just as some first rounders are sought after with a frenzy and turn into busts. Always expect the unexpected peeps. On a side note I honestly do wonder if there was something about Jasper that the big schools passed over for a reason. If this is so, hopefully it is a trait that our mighty Jasper has overcome. I honestly to God and if Gods need be wish our Jasper turns into something formidable. He has the will, the size, the strength, the speed and agility. All he needs now is the proper coaching and the football intuitiveness. He may perhaps have the right coaching and football instictiveness but only time will tell. If he does, by the gods will he be a force to be reckoned with!! Go Bills!!! 2nd side note: Thud be more wary of how you phrase things towards long time and respected posters. I still consider myself a newbie and I've gotten my knocks. Just be respectful, that is my newbie advice Thud. Jasper has the chance to be the steal of a lifetime. He has the opportunity to make something of himself far more to counter what the doubters could ever envision. I hope he goes all out and proceeds to do this. I've spent too much on our Jasper the Jiant. He will do what he can and that is all we can expect of him. Dareus on the other hand will be a beast. I want him to be Bruce but no one will ever be. But if Dareus comes close I will be happy. But Jasper, you have lots to shoot for. Aspire to make every damn team regret for not dedicating time to finding someone such as you and for not drafting you in the first effin damn round. Jasper give it every thing you have and then some. As Bills fans we cannot ask for more.

Awesome thread. Many close ones here. I'll go with Airplane as well for a contemporary film. So many great quotable movies tho. Or perhaps the naked gun movies.

Drafts over. What free agents should we go after?
Pilsner replied to simpleman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is a plan in place. This I believe. The exact details of this plan still evades me. But at least we can rest assured there is a plan in place. It is forming in front of our eyes. When we didn't draft Rudolph, it made me think that we would go hard for a quality young TE in FA. You're right, if there ever is a time to go for a TE in FA this is the year. Boss or Miller. or both! why the hellz not. They are both still young and can grow with our team. on a side note, i'm doing pretty well Bowery. Went to a local wine festival in town and got my wine drinky on with friends. Great way to chill for a saturday. Great weather, wine, live bands, and friends. Then came home and chilled on the board here What better way to spend a saturday? How you doing Bowery? -
Leadership, Leadership and more Leadership
Pilsner replied to Pilsner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for the great reply Shoretalk. I am not the most eloquent speaker but I think you phrased things better than I could have. Also, OldTimer1960 brought up a good point. The entire team can't be held as a leader. Many, well most leaders will have to defer to a few. I don't see this as a problem considering the players that were drafted have the character to not take issue with this. What better situation than to have hard working, talented, humble leaders to lead? Now we shall see if these leaders of men have the ability and talent to warrant their place. I'm optimistic about this bunch. I'm optimistic about Nix, Whaley and Gailey. So far (overall) they have given me reason to think favorably of their efforts.
