  1. Agree completely. Some people learn best by getting thrown in the fire then circling back and filling in the blanks. Let's see if CJ is one of those people.
  2. Keep in mind the system was not intended for life. I work with a young woman (27) who had her first child and was married at 19. Govt housing provided her with a clean, reasonably spacious 2 bedroom apartment when they would have otherwise had to scrape to afford a run-down studio in a crappy neighborhood. "The system" also provided formula, some diapers and food stamps for groceries. It enabled her husband to get his CDL and her to get into college and get her BS in biology. She's been working for over 4 years and they now own a modest home with 2 normal kids. They've been out of the system for about 6 years. She is not a liberal but will always be grateful for the system enabling them to get on their feet. It can work.
  3. I was wondering when one of these big schools would come to their senses and offer Petersen a job. Anyhow, good luck Mike Leach and Wash State. Heard a bit of Leach on sports radio back in October and he was still blaming everyone else while playing the innocent victim. He's a good coach, I only hope he can deflate his ego enough to keep the job. Mike gets a chance to bring a marginal FBS program to relevance and restart his career, Wash State generates some excitement to help pay for their new stadium and get a good coach. Be interesting if Leach gets it right or he's back on the street selling a new book about Wash State conspiracies.
  4. Any idea what's causing it? I know with a lot of stress I get a dull low back ache which will get worse with time. As far as chiropractors my only advice would be to only go if you're in pain and to someone who's highly recommended. Back in high school, my mom was having back pain, decided to use a chiropractor. Always adjusting her back at appointments and having her do it at home also. She kept having recurrences. I was playing football senior year and decided to do some of these at-home adjustments to keep my back "loose" and properly aligned as preventative. Quickly started having back pain from hits during practice/games. Stopped and had my mom stop also. Pains went away. At least for me, I think constantly keeping the spine "loose" makes it more vulnerable and then you can get into a catch-22. Which the chiropractors love.
  5. No prob, I definitely agree there are multiple defining moments also. The first one for me was Chandler's TD against KC where we had first and goal inside the 5, botched some plays, a couple false starts and it's 3rd and goal outside the 10. Any past year it's a FG but when Fitzy tossed it down the seam for the TD I knew at that moment things would be different this year. Not saying they'll make the playoffs yet, but years like this where we find real hope and witness a talented team starting to come together are special in their own right. Go Bills!
  6. I hear you and definitely agree with the perspective you're trying to convey here. But I agree with the majority that this is a huge game, please allow me to communicate this a different way... Given the AFC East and what the jets did to us last year this game is huge because it will be a defining moment for this Bills team and possibly the defining moment of the year for them. No matter what the Bills do it will be a defining moment. Time will tell if it's the most important one and how they respond to it. If they lose and go on a winning streak doesn't mean this game wasn't a defining moment. Normally I'm content to try and watch the game online as I have time. Not this one, I'm headed to the bar to watch it on tv. Can't miss it, if they win they're in the AFC East driver's seat. Wish I could be there, all of you lucky enough to have a spot at the Ralph make those of us who aren't proud. Go Bills!
  7. Saw it directly mentioned in one of the news articles I read within the last week (Buffalo News I think). It surprised me because that was the first direct mention of the problem. Not sure what the surgical recovery time is but I hope Kyle isn't making the wrong choice just trying to tough it out.
  8. Nothing like a good scare on Halloween! Seriously though, no one's going to be calling Fitz "Captain Checkdown" ever but he will rely on the short passes when that's all that's open. As you allude to, there's a huge difference in his decision-making compared to Trent's. Getting back to your point about the O-line, these guys block well as a unit and get great push on running plays most games. When you can see them rip gaping holes in the line for Fred or have a nice pocket around Fitz that is the ability of the line, not the scheme or game plan. I was always frustrated by the oline after we bought Dockery and Walker. Even during wins they never blocked well as a unit, what a waste of money. I do agree with shoretalk that time is the key ingredient. I do not think our line is the best in the NFL yet (see the Giants game), but most importantly we have a solid nucleus, an above average OL, and can selectively upgrade individual positions when we draft/find someone better.
  9. This sounds eerily like the Jauron/Trent Edwards offense. Except our O-line and quarterback are better now. Playcalling is too but successful execution gets back to a better O-line and qb.
  10. Agree with you, if Kyle can't go this coming Sunday it'll be good to see how Dareus does against the Jets OL.
  11. Definitely an interesting article, particularly that the Bills seem so interested in tying up a long term lease deal quickly. Also that Mr. Wilson and the Bills are actively doing PR for it. Definitely a QTIP sounds like a great fit for this situation. It was also interesting that we just signed our franchise QB without appearance or comment from Mr. Wilson (though I do expect him to issue some kind of statement). I do believe plans are being made to keep the Bills here and assuming the new lease helps those plans I hope the state and county move quickly when the Bills are ready.
  12. Kind of makes you want to trust our coach's and GM's opinion doesn't it?
  13. Spewing what crap? Do not be so ignorant as to throw me in with the "Ralph is cheap" shills, that's just as bad as they are. Ralph spent the money to keep our superbowl teams together, he spent money on Dockery, Walker during the Marv return, he spent money on Kelsay, Evans as of recently so I know he's willing to spend money, even if it's ill advised. He also is very generous with his charitable contributions. You want to know one person they didn't spend money on? Jason Peters. What about Pat Williams? I think Ralph is an old-school conservative businessman and I respect him for it. He most certainly has bean counters trying to minimize costs (including contract costs) and maximize return on his investment and in this economy with the buffalo market I don't blame him one bit for doing it. To me he's willing to spend money, but he's less willing to do it if Littman or any other bean counter is adamantly telling Ralph the player isn't worth it, can't afford it, etc. Right now, I think we've got a good coach and a good core of young players coming together. Management/Ralph needed to send a message and commit some money to these guys. The first thing we hear is that they put off Stevie Johnson's talks for Fitz. Now today we see the first true sign that management is serious about keeping this team together moving forward. It's a big positive for me, and that's all my post was referring to.
  14. Congrats Fitz ('bout time FO!)and let's hope Stevie and Fred's new contracts are soon to follow. For the first time in a long time this team feels like it's finally building towards something positive with great leadership on offense and a good locker room. I was afraid our bean counters would screw it all up but this goes a long way to reassure me that this organization is serious about building a playoff quality team. Go Bills.
  15. that certainly sounds possible, I was wondering if he had a bad/slow responding case of plantar fasciitis? It can get pretty painful and they recommend immobilization in that event. Also seems like surgery is not that much an option and they thought he wouldn't be out too long, which makes me wonder about fasciitis.
  16. Good list, I'm guessing they have someone in mind with Merriman to IR, let's see if they made your list.
  17. Sucks, but now it's even more obvious we need an impact linebacker in the draft.
  18. I can't disagree with your opinion of George Edwards and our current defense but it is mostly irrelevant to Maybin's situation. Maybin was drafted and played under the previous coaching staff as well with similar results. The biggest part of the problem is that we drafted him way too high and payed him too much money to give him the role of a situational pass rusher. The other part of the problem, IMO, is that Maybin thought way too much of himself and wasn't very coachable. When referring to Maybin, Gailey generally acknowledged he was a hard worker but wasn't doing the things the coaches wanted him to do. Jets picked him up, cut him, then brought him back and made it real simple: situational pass rusher with a minimal paycheck. Maybin, to his credit, has responded well. To those who say the SD sack was just a coverage sack, I have to disagree. The outlet running back was wide open while Rivers was being sacked but Rivers didn't have the time to put the ball out there because of Maybin's speed. Long story short I have to agree that it's just one of those things.
  19. Excellent post and I think the fact the jets also cut him previously seems lost on the folks who are hinting/saying that we made a mistake cutting him. Jets limited his role and perhaps Maybin finally realized his NFL career was non-existent and that he needed to make some changes in his approach to the game. He definitely looks much more tenacious and "hungry" out there right now. I don't think he'll ever be more than a situational pass rusher but good for him trying to make something out of himself.
  20. Good news, let's hope this gets done soon and they get moving forward on Stevie and Fred. Unless the FO makes a commitment to some or all of these guys team chemistry will take a big hit.
  21. Yes, the playcalling does seem misguided most of the time. If we're talking about our defense. After so many years of watching crappy offenses, I am more than happy with Chan's playcalling. He can't be right all the time nor can he control execution.
  22. He's got some work still to do but he's coming along nicely. I think he was a big part of the reason they were willing to trade Lee.
  23. It would have helped if she stood up and turned around slowly while doing her "analysis" but no such luck.
  24. Honestly, there's a lot of things it could be. Could be ARVD, SVT actually refers to a host of different arrythmias originating above the ventricle such as PSVT, Afib, Aflutter, reentrant tachyarrhythmia (AV nodal), problems with SA node (pacemaker cells). There's also junctional blocks, or it could involve some form of ventricular hypertrophy, PVC's of questionable origin, or some other kind of VT. And there are more as I'm not a doctor but I do research in this field and elucidating the exact problem takes a lot of testing and expertise. It's probably pretty serious because he went from being "sick, back next week or so" to IR over the weekend. Best not to speculate what it is and give Easley his privacy. Eventually we'll find out where his career stands.
  25. My understanding from reading the turbotax link provided earlier in this discussion is that gifts to spouse are unlimited and non-taxable. But it is not the same as a will. I'm guessing your parents' estate was in both their names or your dad gifted the entire thing to her before he passed away. Ralph already stated his wife does not want the team, if Ralph sells he will have to pay taxes on the sale.
