  1. Good perspective piece on Stevie. Interesting quote from Mark Anderson about halfway down. Always love an open and honest player like Stevie. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--bills-wr-stevie-johnson-will-continue-to-celebrate-tds-despite-late-benching-in--11.html
  2. If you go on the Bills' website and look in their twitter section to the right the code is there. Agree about the quality of the interface but I got upper deck tickets to the Chiefs opener so I'm pumped!
  3. The Giants' plan was simply to bleed the clock and slow down Buffalo's offense. Considering the overall time of possession and the fact that the Bills lost the game missing the field goal at expiration, can you really blame Kelly and the offense? To me Buffalo lost this game on the defensive side. Walt Corey bragged about all the talent he had on defense and how he mostly just let them play without a lot of intricate schemes or adjustments. The result of that was a talented but undisiplined defense that could usually make just enough plays late in the game to pull most close ones out. But the superbowl is not just a "usual" type of game. How Corey never got fired after that superbowl I'll never know. It was utterly embarrassing from a defensive standpoint.
  4. From West Seneca to Pittsburgh to Mansfield, OH to far east side of Cleveland. Bills/Sabres will always be #1, won't try and convert the kids because 1. standing by hometown team is so important to me. 2. I would like my kids to be overall positive people. Trying to swap one cursed sports franchise for another and watching hope die from their eyes would be too wrong and too much negativity for impressionable young minds.
  5. I like Eric Wood a lot but have to agree with others that he shouldn't be re-signed if his season gets cut short by serious injury again. Here's another player whose injuries were considered "bad luck" when he left Cleveland: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2805059 One of his Cleveland coaches said Courtney tried so hard to make the play that he often put his body in bad/awkward positions that made him vulnerable to injury. Let's hope that isn't true about Eric and he has a productive, full season. Also, at least we know what the health issue is/was with Kyle and Merriman. It's either fixed or it isn't but at least the FO, doctors, and training staff know what the problem is if a decision needs to be made. How long do you pay a guy who incurs unrelated, season-ending injuries every year or two? Especially a starter.
  6. Yea, no matter how you slice it, it's a good day for us.
  7. Rotoworld claims 3 year (assuming 2012 is included) 11.105 million with additional 1.7 possible in incentives Beside Fred's picture click on "view contract details" http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4506/fred-jackson
  8. You're way too kind. Not worth a rent unless kids were dying to see it like mine were. D-
  9. That is the primary rule upon which almost all the rest follow, it does not mean they SHOULD all be loaded.
  10. Wow, nice gun to have. I agree with you that the lack of kids helps, and certainly you've been responsible in putting thought into the potential risks, but you can't guarantee that no one besides yourself will ever have access to that loaded gun. A couple posts ago, you asked me "why would I not leave it loaded?" Besides the unknown risks for an unforseen accident, always living with a loaded gun in the house builds up a comfort level with you. This comfort compromises mental diligence in avoiding handling mistakes and opens you up to distractions also. Obviously you feel you have complete control of your gun, leaving it loaded and unsecured can allow that to change quickly, maybe instantaneously. For these reasons my mentality would be (regardless of kids): Is there a tangible reason to leave it loaded all the time? If so, no problem. If not, I hope you consider unloading it.
  11. Yea, I'm losing respect for Holmgren. I thought he made a mistake getting rid of Mangini's regime and now this. I'm not that sold on McCoy, (noodle arm) but Colt had to learn the West Coast offense last year with no offseason to do it. Colt had a real promising rookie year under Mangini and last year's turmoil put him at a big disadvantage. Why not give him the chance and let Weeden earn it? IMO Holmgren risks screwing up the locker room over this, Colt's a nice guy and a leader. Colt added a lot of muscle in the offseason and is/was ready to give it his all this year. I feel sorry for this franchise as instability has been a hallmark since they put the team back in Cleve and now they're on the cusp of falling right back into that. It all starts with stability in your FO, at least Ralph's finally got that one right.
  12. Don't get me wrong, if you live in a bad neighborhood, there's been an increase in criminal activity, or you have a conflict with someone that you fear may escalate then I fully understand the reasoning for having the loaded gun easily accessible. But to routinely leave a loaded, easily accessable gun lying around means you get casual about it and your chances of mistakenly leaving the safety off or having an accident with it are much greater than actually having to shoot a criminal. Between clips, trigger locks and lock boxes you can easily set it up that you can have that gun ready to go within 10 seconds if needed. If that still seems too long to you then keep a baseball bat nearby. If that still doesn't work than I think you're being overly paranoid and neurotic about your sense of security.
  13. I believe #1 and #5 are the crux of this issue. My guns have all been long unloaded before I go to clean them (and I always double check). This is common sense and was taught adamantly to me in my gun safety course. It should be required that anyone buying a gun would receive quick hands-on training how to disassemble and clean it from the seller than be required to successfully demonstrate before taking possession of the gun. As far as the uber-paranoid "gun always loaded" neurotics, I'm not sure what can be done about them and it is truly disconcerting that many instructors subscribe to this philosophy.
  14. Certainly I agree that the bike lane can present problems, but that doesn't absolve a bicyclist's responsibility of yielding to turning traffic (as Pete blithely seems to believe). A bike lane does not mean a biker can ignore yielding to pedestrians at a red light intersection or a designated cross-walk either. As for your right turn across 4 lanes example, I fail to see how a reckless op type of illegal turn is really relevant to executing a legal right turn on a road with a bike lane. Certainly the car has a responsibility to yield to a biker occupying the space where the car is trying to go but the biker still has a responsibility to yield to traffic in front of him.
  15. If the bike is supposed to obey all traffic laws same as a car then you're the one who's got it wrong. If the car in front of you clearly has his turn signal on then he has the right of way to execute his turn and as the trailing vehicle you must yield to him. Just because you have a bike lane doesn't mean the rules of the road don't apply, simply that cars must stay out of that section of road. Share the road.
  16. It's obvious the Sanford Police did not conduct a rigorous investigation of this case, but that doesn't mean they've botched it either. Let's keep in mind that they have a 911 call from Zimmerman himself, a prime witness whose separate interview matched well with Zimmerman's story, and the evidence on the scene. Zimmerman beaten up, Martin dead, both maybe not too far away from Zimmerman's vehicle, out in the open. Zimmerman got treated so there must be a record of that. Martin's dead and other than the gunshot, did not appear to have sustained injuries consistent with a struggle(according to the coroner). So, either it was a one sided fight or there was no fight, but it's obvious from Zimmerman's head and witnesses there was a struggle. The only direct evidence I've read against Zimmerman is the independent voice analysis which states the probability of it being Zimmerman is much lower than it should be. But the "help" voice recording was from a witnesses phone, meaning there was significant distance between the phone and voice. They also could not say it was Martin because they didn't have his voice sample, so it's hard to say what this analysis means. I think the Sanford PD saw this as an open and shut case and didn't feel the need to investigate it further. Should they have? I think so, but that probably won't change the outcome. All these investigators combing this case and still no charges against Zimmerman. But they've ruled out a grand jury so they've ruled out first degree murder. It'll certainly be interesting to see what charges, if any, they decide on.
  17. Well, she is still wearing her wedding ring 5 years later. Of course, that presumes she was being truthful about his demise.
  18. Really? Collar change may be tolerable but I find the cleats a whole new definition of ugly. So much red really distracts from the rest of the uni. To each his own I guess.
  19. Agree, it's hard to say what these teams are thinking other than he is not good enough to be their starting LT for the $$. Surprises me Philly didn't even offer him.
  20. I also thought the writer comes off a bit snotty about Bell. While it's not clear, I think the writer is inferring Bell would be moved to right tackle (over Brandon Keith). From the article: "Bell would be an upgrade over the Levi Brown/Brandon Keith tackle combo." So the writer probably feels Bell should be asking for starting RT money instead of starting LT.
  21. Got it all figured out just like the national media, don't ya? Way to regurgitate.
  22. Ok, I'll try and keep it simple. Keep in mind I have lived on the far n. eastern side of town for about 8 years so living info may be a bit dated. lets start with the google map for Cleveland, OH: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&sugexp=frgbld&gs_nf=1&cp=12&gs_id=z&xhr=t&rlz=1R2GPMA_en&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1920&bih=913&wrapid=tljp1333045283475022&q=cleveland+ohio&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x8830ef2ee3686b2d:0xed04cb55f7621842,Cleveland,+OH&gl=us&ei=Jqh0T-PoCqP40gHesImAAw&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1&sqi=2&ved=0CCsQ8gEwAA You can see the city limits outlined in pink. With the exception of downtown and a few small areas, you do NOT want to live within the city limits. Most of the firing line neighborhoods are east of I-77 but the western ones are still fairly poor for the most part. Next 2 important links: http://www.riderta.com/ http://www.clemetparks.com/ Good luck interpreting the bus schedule. They do have a rail line that runs from downtown to the airport (red line) so he could live downtown if he wants. Downtown living seems decent except there's not a lot of grocery stores unless you go to the West side Market @ W. 25th and Lorain. My wife and I feel safe going/walking downtown. Places to live: 1. Berea is a bit crowded but still has a remnant small town feel with Baldwin Wallace College located there. Near the Metroparks, airport is very close. Definitely some high rises there, not sure on pricing. Lots of chain restaurants near there, don't know the area well enough. It gets even more crowded when the Browns open training camp there. Cuyahoga County fairgrounds right there also. 2. Lakewood is a very affordable dense suburb with a lot of things to do. There are a lot of niche stores, performing arts, concerts etc. There are some high rises but a lot of the rentals are duplexes from the '40's and '50's. They are generally well maintained/updated but a few are not. Overall it has the feel of an old time quaint city neighborhood. My wife and I lived there for a short time and enjoyed it. There's a mix of owners and renters, families, single young professionals, but some economically disadvantaged people too. Lots of bars, restaurants. Bars have a history of serving decent food and it's easy to go in alone, get a decent reasonably priced dinner and hang out. Rocky river is nicer than lakewood but with less rental opportunities. Two negatives about Lakewood. -train tracks run between Clifton and Detroit. After we left they supposedly rerouted as much as possible south through Brookpark, but in my time there was always a train coming through between 2-4 am. I'd recommend living south of Detroit Rd. -Eastern Lakewood was a bit crappier. When we lived there the rule of thumb was to live west of Bunts/W. 140. Now I'd focus west of Warren. Near Berea, Strongsville, Middleburg Heights, Broadview Heights, N. Royalton are all nice, but mostly generic. Strongsville has a nice mall and I think would be the best of the bunch for things going on. Westlake is a popular area to rent(with a nice outdoor mall), North Olmstead/Olmstead Falls is also. Not sure about affordability and ease of public transport though. Brookpark and Parma I do not prefer. Brookpark is very industrial with lots of strip clubs, Parma is crammed full of small houses from the 60's with a large subpopulation of people that never left the 1980's. Parma Heights is somewhat better, they especially hate being associated with Parma. Outdoor things to do: Edgewater park is within biking of Lakewood, beach and fishing pier. There's also Whiskey Island (Wendy Park) right there where people hang out in the summer . Another fishing pier out in Rocky river, they charge a couple bucks access though. Not much for inland lakes around Cleveland, it's either Erie or one of the rivers. Rocky River metropark ends in Lakewood and steelhead fishing is very good except for the summer. Nice long paved trail there but only small side trails. Cuyahoga Valley Nat'l Park is best bet for hiking but Cleveland parks are designed for nice walks, not proper hiking. The zoo is also nearby, there's a science center, aquarium(not worth it), Rock and Roll hall of fame, museums, comedy clubs, orchestra, Indians/Browns/Cavs games, monthly local artist shows. Good restaurants too. Well, this is getting longer than I wanted. To me, Lakewood is probably best bet if you don't have a car but that's just me. Let me know or PM me if you have more specific questions.
  23. Agree, he also received medical treatment, there's got to be a record and witness, if nothing more than an ambulance and paramedic. Why aren't they tracking this down instead of speculating over grainy videos. Just more mob hysteria. Well said, completely agree. I have to give a special shout out to the democrats in congress for their role also.
  24. It's a great idea if you intend for the government to take over health insurance.
  25. Obama, the democrats, much of the media, and every black activist is convinced this is Rodney King 2012. Even if Zimmerman's version is the truth, I worry investigators will declare him guilty anyways.
