Buffalo's UDFA signings

VOR

I'll be honest, I've never heard of this guy (and I am a draft nerd)

Hopefully the Bills are talking to Brannan Southerland and Gerald Cadogan. Getting both of those guys as UDFAs would completely negate that last confusing CB pick.

I think I saw in another thread a poster said Cadogan went to the Panthers. Don't know if its true or not.

per CNNSI:

BIOGRAPHY: Two-year starter who also saw limited action with the first team as a sophomore. Totals last season included 44/7.5/4 after 46/7/4.5 as a junior.

POSITIVES: Hard-working, undersized defensive lineman with limited upside. Displays good first step quickness, works his hands throughout the action, and plays with good lean. Works hard until the whistle blows, and shows the ability to shoot the gaps upfield and make plays behind the line of scrimmage.

NEGATIVES: Easily controlled at the point by a single blocker. Lacks bulk, and wears down over the course of the game.

ANALYSIS: Lindquist is a slug-it-out defender with marginal size and athleticism. He offers potential as a one-gap lineman, yet he must significantly pick up his production this summer to have any chance of making a roster.

PROJECTION: Free Agent

DT #94 David Lindquist Sr. 6-3 288

-Undersized DT prospect.

-Average quickness at the DT spot.

-Early Draft Grade: Undrafted Free Agent. Lindquist didn't really jump off the tape, he is more of a plugger type and doesn't have the size to fill that same role in the NFL.

If somebody with ESPN Insider can tell us what they say here, that'd be great.

Sounds a bit like the writeups on Kyle Williams when he came out.

Other than the 59th at his position comment there is absolutely nothing else.

This is a bust his butt overachieving type guy that professionals don't believe can make it at the pro level. A lot of those guys have proved the experts wrong. If he doesn't make it, it appears that it won't be for lack of trying. The perfect underdog to root for.

Overall Football Traits

Production 2 2004: Furman red shirts Bell. 2005-'08: Bell starts 36 of the 49 games he appears in. He earns first-team All-Southern Conference honors during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Bell is a first-team FCS All-American in 2008.

Height-Weight-Speed 2 Excellent blend of height, bulk, and top-end speed.

Durability 1 Durability is not a concern to our knowledge.

Character 2 Dual-sport athlete and finished sixth in the discus event at the Southern Conference track and field championships. Majoring in health and exercise science.

Offensive Tackle specific Traits

Strength/Toughness 1 Above-average upper body strength and flashes the ability to deliver a powerful initial punch. Lower body strength appears more than adequate and finishes blocks.

Agility 3 Not an elite athlete but shows adequate lateral mobility and foot speed for size.

Awareness 4 Lived abroad for 11 yards prior to high school and only started two years of high school football. Has some problems recognizing and reacting to line stunts/blitzes.

Pass Protection 2 Locks out arms and can ride edge rushers past the pocket. Gets adequate knee bend in pass set and can hold ground against bull rushers. Hand placement is inconsistent and has some problems sustaining blocks as a result. Footwork is inconsistent and can take too long to redirect in pass protection.

Run Blocking 3 Uses big hands to lock onto defender's frames and dominated the point of attack at the FCS level. Plays too high and isn't going to get the same kind of push in the NFL. Lunges at times and can lose balance. Takes adequate angles to downfield blocks and can cover a lot of ground but doesn't show great body control in space and has some problems adjusting to moving targets.

7 receptions for 52 yards and no TD's.

Travis McCall (TE)

Height: 6'2"

Weight: 276

College: Alabama

Conference: SEC

Hometown: Prattville, AL

High School: Prattville

Overview

Considering McCall typically lined up as Alabama's second tight end and a blocking specialist, some were caught off guard when he received an invitation to the Senior Bowl. With few traditional fullbacks and blocking specialists at tight end slated for the 2009 draft, however, the invitation made sense. A recipient of only 24 receptions despite playing in 51 career games, McCall's value lies in his ability to put defenders on their backs - a talent that could earn a late-round draft selection.

High School

Signed with the Tide in 2004, but fell thousandths of a point shy of qualifying. As a prep senior he played tight end and defense. He was a 6A All-State pick while helping Prattville to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs. He was also selected to the Birmingham News Super Senior list. He was rated the nation's ninth-best tight end by Rivals.com and the 19th-best overall in-state prospect by Superprep Magazine.

Are they looking at him for a Fullback role?

Sounds a bit like the writeups on Kyle Williams when he came out.

"Limited upside" -That's a positive? Other than that sounds similar, but not quite as good as Kyle.

Per Pro Football Weekly : Kyle Williams 9th Best DT (McCargo was 3rd best)

Upside: Quick off the ball. Explosive & naturally STRONG. Very determined competitor who imposes his will. Plays to the whistle. Very TOUGH. Extremely strong in upper & lower body. Excellent motor. Plays above his ability. Hustles & chases & makes a lot of tackles in pursuit through sheer effort & determination. Is quick to find the ball. Vocal leader. Plays through pain. Outstanding work habits. Married.

Downside: Lacks ideal size. Has short arms & could have a more difficult time disengaging from NFL blockers. Not a great athlete. Too straight-linish & does not look natural changing direction. Overly muscular & ridgid in his movement. Will rise out of his stance & play too tall. Can be late to locate & react to the ball when he is tied up. Plays out of control. Not a creative pass rusher. Gives up too much of his chest & does not show many moves to come free. Hand use could improve.

The Way We See It: Does not have great measurables but plays much bigger than his size & warrants comparisons to Vickings 2000 1st rnd pick & current Buccaneers DT Chris Hovan. A rolling ball of butcher knives, (I love that line) he will slap & push around anything in his way to get in the backfield. A throwback, old school tough guy who needs to play in a penetrating, upfield attack where he is on the move.

2006 Draft projection 3rd rnd.

If only the Bills had drafted this guy in the 7th round, all these guys who feel the draft became a disaster in the last two rounds would feel so much better.
