Pine Barrens Mafia
Didn't Reagan run up record deficits during his tenure?Didn't Bush just pour 200 billion dollars into a military project? Sorry, but I'm still failing to see any appreciable difference here. 97346 Yes, but on things the gov't is SUPPOSED to spend money on: Military, etc... He funded a war, not a buildup. Peter
Pardon a thick-headed question from a political neophyte, but how exactly are Reagan and BushII so radically different? 97318 Primarily, the neoconservative agenda and the blind devotion to extremists in the party. For a good discussion of this, read Pat Buchanan's new book, "Where the Right Went Wrong," and Scott McConnell's piece in the American Conservative Magazine. Terry Tate
B.S. Get to the polls and VOTE. Nothing is over until WE say it is over! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? 97237 KD in CT's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.
Simon
Primarily, the neoconservative agenda and the blind devotion to extremists in the party. Reagan didn't roll out the red carpet for the godsquadders and the justsayno extremists? Vague references and buzzwords aren't showing me these glaring differences between Reagan and Bush. All I can see are the similarities between two free-spending, holier-than-thou, ultra conservatives with limited mental capacities. For a good discussion of this, read Pat Buchanan's new book, "Where the Right Went Wrong," and Scott McConnell's piece in the American Conservative Magazine. I'd be interested in the McConnell piece if there were a link available. But I'm not sure if I'd rather read a Pat Buchanan book or have papercuts on my eyeballs ;-)

MichFan
The exits that have been reported so far are absoulte BS. For example, the sampling is 59% Women vs. 41% Male. To any Bush supporter who is even the slightest bit worried -- SUCK IT UP AND GOTV!!!! This is going to be a close election and we knew last night it would be that way. You want it to be a landslide for Bush and melt when it isn't. Again, SUCK IT UP, go vote, and get your family, friends and neighbors out to vote. The Republican GOTV machine is hitting on all cylinders and this was a calulated move to derail it by the DNC and main-street-media. The DNC simply can not handle the thought of losing an election with high voter turnout. If you let this demoralize you then they win and you'll feel like a fool tomorrow. Think of the guys over in Iraq laying their a$$ on the line and expecting you to pull through for them. Get your minds back in the freaking game and keep the morale high. Bush will win if you do. Everyone in mine and my wife's family is voting bush. Except for my father-in law, the wife's sister and her husband. That's it. It's a margin of 14-3 in my family. And I'm willing to wager it's similar across the country.

ExiledInIllinois
Tell that to the guy I work with. He lives in IL and has property in MI. He had to go up to MI and vote on some of the referendums up there... It is his right. I guess the presidential election was going on there... So I guess he voted twice... BTW he's republican and voted twice for Bush! It goes on everywhere! The should have one race ballots for president, standardized and linked registration to your SS. Albany,n.y.
Reagan was a lot more pragmatic when it came to risking American lives. He would never had gotten us into the post "mission accomplished" mess where the majority of deaths have occurred. Reagan didn't have the Armageddon is just around the corner so lets hasten its arrival mentality that some of the Bush people appear to have. Albany,n.y.
Since I don't believe in Armageddon I wouldn't ever say Bush is hastening Armageddon. What I did say is that Bush surrounds himself with people who more or less agree with him that it's not such a bad thing to hasten something they believe in. That's why I referred to it as a mentality, because you can't hasten something that isn't going to happen, but you can believe you will.

Why do you have to characterize his administration as having this nonchalant attitude about facilitating Armageddon? Bush and his advisors have families of their own that they care about; I think they'd like to delay the annihilation of mankind for at least their children and grandchildren, right?
