I had received the same list via email. If you want to still go the gift card route it probably is safe to give one of those Master Card or Visa gift cards. Don't ya think?

What kills me about those is you pay a fee for them... say $33 for a $30 gift card, and THEN the CC company charges the merchant a fee when they except the card as payment.

The credit card companies simply print their own money. ;)

Circuit City is honoring Gift Cards, and is not planning on closing any more than the previously announce 155 stores....I am sure the others are honoring gift cards also....oh and CC warranties are safe as well, they are and always have been through a 3rd party vendor

What ever happen to the good old days? Just shove a new crisp $20 in the envelope and save yourself a headache.

Not to mention about 40% of them are never redeemed. Gift cards are a money printing business.

I hate those things. Merchants never seem to know how to process them and you have to keep track of the exact balance yourself.

In the good old days...it was a new crisp $1. :worthy:

I will take an old wrinkled dirty $50, if it is trashing up your wallet. ;)

BTW, do gift cards work for online purchases? While I would also avoid gift cards for businesses in trouble, if they close a retail location near you, can you use the card on their online store?

Someone game me a $50 gift card to Macaroni Grill. I simply forgot about the thing, and then found it a couple of years later. Tried to use, and it actually lost value over the two years it was in hiding, and was valued at something like $3.50. ;)

Great work if you can get it.

I know Best Buy you can, I've used them online and done "in store pickup".
