Swift Sylvan Posted April 16, 2008 Share Posted April 16, 2008 I parked and strolled towards a store, and noticed a spiffy vehicle with "trick" wheels and vanity plates parked in a handicap spot - with no handicap parking permit. The stars must be in favorable alignment today; a police cruiser was passing by, so I hailed it and informed the Officer. Exiting the store, I saw the ticket on the cur's vehicle. Now - if the person has a permit, and forgot to display it, no problem...the ticket gets voided. If not...GUILTY! I routinely have to remove the shopping carts that people leave there before I can get my son out. I've also run into the guy or gal who has no permit, idling and waiting for their passenger, and refusing to relinquish the spot. Thank you. Sh*t like that really, really pisses me off. That's when you leave a bag of potatoes in the back and show your son how to play "clog the tailpipe", and show him how not to hold your car key while walking past a vehicle. That's just wrong. I might idle in a handicapped spot (though I can't recall ever doing it), but if someone with a tag needs to park there...yeah, you better believe I'll give up the spot. I love how fat is the new handicapped. If anything, these people should be forced to park farther away and walk. A woman in my office somehow has handicapped parking privileges for a rotator cuff injury... I have a torn medial meniscus and patellar cartilage. Frequently, I have to use a cane. I have a feeling that your definition of "need to" and everyone else's is different. Can you please give us an example of a time you "needed to"? Pardon me for attempting to read dablanc's mind...damn, its skeery in there. Anyway, I think what he means is that life will catch up to people who park in handicapped spots. The Poojer Posted April 17, 2008 Share Posted April 17, 2008 i especially love it when someone is sitting there waiting for someone to leave a spot, i go down farther and park a good distance away, and i am able to walk by them as they still sit waiting for that person to still pull out, that is the karma/kismet someone else was talking about You and mean are on the same wavelength there.... It KILLS me how people fight over spaces closest to the store they are trying to go into.......but need to lose some weight. Here is an idea....park a little further away and get some EXERCISE I could get a parking permit closer to my office where I work....but I deliberately keep the same one I have had for the past 8 years because it is a little bit of a hike and I can stretch my legs. She can double space park then IMHO. The rare occasions where maybe the handicapped space makes sense doesn't justify or balance out the vast majority of time where the space just goes vacant. In California, land is expensive and parking lots are usually to small for the mall or strip mall and the city makes way to many handicapped spaces creating a case of musical chairs for the rest of us non handicapped folks.
