97 Rock revives "Cup" song

That's a link to a WKBW news video of how Buffalo's 97 Rock (the voice of the Bills) is recording a new version of "We're Gonna Win That Cup" featuring local celebs like Joe Mesi, Mayor Brown, the Ch.7 anchors, etc.

While ex-Bill (and apparently STILL a Buffalo resident) Rueben Brown is featured, as far as I can tell, no active Bills players or staff are on the song.

I find that curious that the voice of the Bills couldn't get one current member of the team to join a tribute to the Sabres. Am I reading too much into this?

Your thoughts?

I don't think it's a big deal at all, honestly. There may be some goofy league regulation restricting players from doing promo material for other sporting events for all we know.

Maybe 97 Rock didn't want the Buffalo Bills stank to rub off on the Sabres!

BTW, does anyone, particularly those of you in Buffalo, know if the original version of the song is available at all? I seem to vaugely remember there being some Sabres themed cd released in time for the '99 finals...that song, for whatever reason, really conjures up great memories for me...I used to have a 12-inch vinyl LP, with Ted Darlings' highlights from the '75 season...I would kill to hear that agan...RJ is great, but TD (TD the good!) will always be the voice of the Sabres for me.....

Maybe these numbnuts could have waited until we at least made the cup finals before putting the kibosh on the team. This song worked so well the first two times.... <_<

Maybe. Way back in the day, I remember Jim Kelly introducing a 97 Rock parody song called "Puppa-Man" that was sung to the tune of the Kinks' "Superman".

I used to have the 1974 album called "Sounds of the Sabres"...I gave it to my cousin a few years back since he has a Sabres collection going. It's all scratched up but he can probably get something off of it...if he still has a record player.
