Tutan Reyes

He is rated as one of the better guards in the league at Scouts.com. But the question is why is Carolina letting him go?? Did they sign another guard as an upgrade? It seems strange they are letting a young, starting guard go and they value the run. Anybody know the story??

They signed a huge FA moneywise last year in Mark Wahle and drafted a guy they like in the third round Evan Mathis or something that they envisioned replacing Reyes who they knew was going to look for greener pastures. It happened with them a couple years ago with Jeno James who ended up signing a good contract but sucking with the Dolphins so they prepared for it.

Scouts Inc. gives him a grade of 65. They give Bennie Anderson a 72, so I'm a little worried about Reyes being an upgrade. :P

Here are their respective scounting reports:

Tutan Reyes

2006 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.

Grade: 65 | Key

Alert: None

Comment:

Shows good body control at times, possesses adequate agility and flashes the ability to adjust to the moving target at the second level. As a pass blocker, keeps feet moving, has good lateral mobility and flashes the ability to redirect inside after starting outside. Lacks prototypical size, won't engulf many defenders at the point of attack and won't wear many defenders down over the course of the game. Lacks the lower body strength to regularly push the pile in the running game and struggles when massive two-gap defenders line up over head. While has above-average range doesn't always stay under control in space, loses balance far too often and is an inconsistent downfield blocker.

Bennie Anderson

2006 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.

Grade: 72 | Key

Alert: None

Comment:

He is a nasty player that is very physical at the point of attack and undersized interior defenders are a mismatch against him. He is a mauler with the ability to move the pile and create seams, even vs. the premier two gap defenders. As a pass protector, Anderson displays the ability to react to what he sees and has a nice feel for picking up stunts (well, there goes any credibility Scouts Inc had :P ) and recognizing the blitz. He can handle any defender of equal size and bulk to his own and can really anchor the point vs. the league's best bull rushers. However, Anderson does not possess great overall athletic ability and his agility is hampered by his weight. He is not in great condition and would really benefit from losing twenty pounds. He lacks initial quickness off the football and as a result, he struggles to get to the second level.

These are actually 2005 Scout Inc. reports....they have an error in their system stating them as 2006.(You can tell by their experts take on their free agent list)

i.e.

Tutan Reyes | OG Complete player profile

Full Name: Tyriq Marques Reyes...

Grade: 65

Expert's Take: Reyes is very agile and has a quick first step. He is explosive with his hands and delivers a good initial punch. He takes good angles to his blocks. He can play guard or center. He is intelligent and easily handles stunts and twists inside. He usually is in good position. He has decent upper-body strength and can get movement when he has an angle block. He can mirror and slide and reset his feet in pass protection. He can work up to the second level but has difficulty sustaining contact on a moving target. He lacks the bulk and strength to anchor against a strong bull rush. He can be knocked back into the pocket. He has trouble with quick one-gap penetrators. He plays with a narrow base and doesn't finish blocks well. He occasionally loses his feet and fails to follow through.

Bennie does not have a 2006 report yet since he is not a free agent.

Interesting to see how his ability was lost as soon as he put on a Bills uniform.

Keywords are highlighted. He once displayed, as in Macy's store window displays, some ability to someone to do something. He can't do it, but he displayed it. The closing comment sums up what the Bills got. A fat tub of goo, badly out of shape, with little or no athletic ability, and the quickness of a sloth. He struggles to do jack.

I can't say that I know a hell of a lot about Reyes, but I have seen him at the top, or near the top of a few lists of remaining FA offensive linemen. I have to ask, WTF? If the guy is supposed to be decent, and the Bills thought highly enough of him to bring him in for a look, why are they not making him an offer, to consider, instead of letting him go to Detroit? The Bills now have a significant amount of money to spend on FA's. All of the top tier guys are gone, are we going to start whiffing on the next level too? I am starting to think more and more, the Bills intend to get a lot of room under the cap, and stay there....

Cool name, but what I like is the background in basketball and as a TE -- the guy must have decent athleticism. He's also no dummy. Looks like a good prospect to bring in.
