The Cardinals recently gave Wells the low tender of $712,000, retaining the right to match any offer Wells may receive. If the Cardinals decline to match, they would receive a sixth-round pick in return. It's likely, however, the Cardinals would match anything but an outrageous offer. They are about $14 million under the salary cap of $102 million, so it would be hard for the Bills to structure a deal in a way to prevent the Cardinals from matching. "We certainly desire to keep Reggie," said Rod Graves, Cardinals vice president for football operations. "We're not surprised there would be interest in him." The Cardinals would match an offer unless "somebody did something totally unexpected," Graves said. "Then we would have to discuss our position." Please tell me this isn't the guy who makes Wells expendable. "Brown appeared in 13 games last season with the Houston Texans. He started in 12 of those games. If they'd offered him the $1.5M tender, they'd have kept him, or at worst gotten a 1st round for him. Big miscalculation by the dysfunctional Cards. Marv seems still pretty good at poker. If the Cards were not even willing to give this guy a high one year tender, are they gonna give him a $3M signing bonus and a multi-year contract? All their talk about keeping him was before they knew he was gonna get big bucks at a very young age. What was the date of the Cardinals last playoff game and what was the date of the Bills last? You might be surprised. Is Marv in the 'Hall' as a GM or a coach? Jim Kelly is in the Hall. Make him GM. Overpaying a 30+ yr old running back is something only Arizona would do. The recent history of the Cardninals is that its consistent with their not so recent history: they lose alot of games. So Marv should go out and spend all of the cap space on over the hill vets like Grady Jackson and Sam Madison? Would that make it acceptable? If we hadnt spent all of the cap room within the first 3 days of freeagency on players you know from your fantasy league from years past you consider it a disapointment and Marv a dodering old fool. This is the NFL. If you want to look at history look at the Patriots and Eagles formula vs. the Redskins or Raiders. One team builds through the draft and siging character free agents, one overpays for "names". One consistently wins and one consistently disappoints.
