$ finally catching up with Skins

It looks like the Redskins are about 20 million over the cap this year. After years of jackass Snyder throwing big bucks at players who never got him to the superbowl it finally has come back to bite him in the @ss.

Watch for them to try and restructure any vet player they think they can to get under the cap. They have no choice. I wonder if they will just cut some high paid vets?

I think their waiting list for tickets is something like 2 centuries. Snyder doubled the business's revenue. They can field the 53 Stooges, go 0-16 for years and roll in dough.

Not winning is no impediment for many clubs. The cash register sings regardless.

Snyder and these other arrogant, ignorant "new wave" of owners have no clue. It's the same mindset that brought baseball to it's present low state. They think that the sport is invincible and that it's their "right" to make as much money as they can grab. What they don't understand is that they're a part of a private league that has significant antitrust exemptions, and that they have an obligation to act in a manner that benefits the league as a whole.

However often the rest of the country pokes fun at Ralph, this is the one concept that Ralph understands completely. This is a group of people that joined together initially for the love of the sport, and it's this core concept that made the league into the greatest professional sports league in the world. Years of teamwork and doing what is good for the league as a whole made the league into what it is today.

It's sad to think that some shallow !@#$stick like Dan Snyder or Jerry Jones is actually a threat to that.

An uncapped league will spell disaster for the sport and teams like the Bills, Browns, Packers, and Raiders will disappear.

Great point. Baseball views itself as 30 separate companies all marketing a single product, with the most money getting to put the best product.

The NFL is great because it sees itself as 1 busines with 32 franchises, all of which make the business better. Snyder and Jones are trying to push the NFL to the baseball model.

And if you look at the skins roster, they will be around 50 million over the cap come next offseason. I have no doubt that Snyder built his team around having a non-capped year, where those high salaries mean nothing to him.

I'b been saying that for 6 months.  $nyder wants it to become like baseball with A and C class clubs.

Well perhaps if you were not a "Semi-Retired Costumed Crusader", perhaps you could have prevented this dilemma. Another slacker! :P

I just don't buy this tired argument... In baseball?... What were the ChiSox considered before the 2005 season? Maybe a B class club, maybe a C class club... But, not an A class club... You see what drive and determination does.

I say "uncap" the beast and let the chips fall where they may.

Buffalo will be fine in the "classic" sense.

We are kinda diverging again Bill?

Why not give the owners the freedom to do what they want? Their job is to squash their competitors on the field and in the market.

And all this chicken little mentality is just that... There will always be teams to play against... Some of the not so financially sound will fail... The talent can be spread around less teams and we will see a better product.

As for Buffalo losing a team. It will never be because of owners like Synder, Jones, or Kraft... It will be their own doing.

I guess I am really against all you socialists...:P:doh:

Actually, it behooves Snyder to get a new CBA, as otherwise he cannot get under the cap without gutting the team. With a new CBA in place, he can push off some of the hits he would take, because remember even if he reworks a contract there are still cap penalties, which with the current 2007 uncapped year will be felt this year. In addition, the performance bonuses that most teams pro rate to the next year will be hit this year as well.

Basically, that's a long way of saying, just because he's got cash and can throw it around doesn't mean he's going to fight for an uncapped NFL.

I understand your point, but Buffalo built a perennial Super Bowl team when there was no salary cap (cap didn't kick in until '93-'94). What's different now that they can't do that again?
