Xwnyer Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Even though Beane has done a terrible job assembling this roster we are still in the hunt for a playoff spot and have a remote chance of finishing first in the East. Meanwhile teams like Bengals, Ravens and Chiefs are almost eliminated from the playoffs yet people thought those rosters are in much better shape than ours. Could you imagine if Josh had the weapons Burrow has or we had a defense that can actually generate pressure on the QB? We are lucky we have Superman on our side but it would be nice if he had a supporting cast like the Superman has with the Justice League 😀 If we don’t win the east being the fifth seed won’t be a bad thing Pitt and Balt are terrible and as long as Cincy doesn’t end up winning that division I can see us winning a playoff game on the road. 1 1 Quote
thenorthremembers Posted 56 minutes ago Posted 56 minutes ago The WR position is a disaster. Outside of that its a good oft injured roster. Luckily we have 17. 1 Quote
balln Posted 52 minutes ago Posted 52 minutes ago Slot corner , backup slot corner , dime DB and free safety are a disaster. As we need to blitz now. Those players are getting picked on over and over and can’t hold up in coverage. What’s worse? They can’t tackle anymore. 1 Quote
GunnerBill Posted 45 minutes ago Posted 45 minutes ago The roster is not a disaster. It is deep. Brandon Beane prioritises depth in his roster builds. Always has. I would argue the Bills at one point in camp this past year had around 65 guys who could probably be serviceable NFL football players without being liabilities on the field if called upon to play in spot duty. That allows the coaches to piece together a competitive team even when, for example, you are down both starting tackles or when, for example, you have multiple safeties done for the year or when, for example, your defensive tackle room is decimated by November. If anyone has ever tried to criticise Brandon Beane for depth they were barking up the wrong tree. He consistently succeeds if that is your metric. The issue is his depth approach feels like, at times, it has come at the expense of genuine game changers. Particularly up front on defense and at wide receiver. And when you add that to the fact he has struggled to draft true game changers it leaves the very top of the roster a little thin. That is a different roster build than Baltimore or Kansas City. They are more top heavy builds and they are not able to roll with the punches from injuries as well as Buffalo is. I'll exclude Cincy from this conversation because (while their roster has issues, especially on defense) when you lose your Quarterback for 9 games no amount of depth is saving you. 3 1 1 Quote

Good point about depth v. game changers. But what SB team has been built with mangaing injuries yet to happen in mind? Build for depth and a team helmed by a once in a franchise lifetime QB gets pushed around by the likes of Miami and Atlanta. 1 1 Quote

The raiders and cardinals are a disaster Buffalo has a great all time QB with a solid team, really good oline and yes a wr room that is a disaster. The 23/24 chiefs were similar. So were the 18 pats. 2010 packers had a ton of injuries, but excellent wrs. The bills could easily lose in the wildcard or be in the super bowl this year. I'm trying to enjoy every moment with Allen. Although I was completely full of RAGE after the cook fumble and threw my phone across the room lol 😭 Edited 32 minutes ago by Kelly to Allen 1 Quote

It's always a balance - I feel like the Bills lean too much towards depth over stars. 2 Quote

Good point, but did Beane purposefully design it this way or is it because he fails to draft game changing talent and this is what we're left with? 1 Quote

The 2010 packers set a record for players on ir and still getting to the super bowl. They were a very deep team... Probably a little bit more talented than buffalo but similar concept. Bills are built differently tho Edited 26 minutes ago by Kelly to Allen Quote

Wait, I’m confused. If we’re winning with a terrible roster, does that mean we have good coaching? That can’t be right though, because all I read on here is how bad the coaching is. So, we’re winning with a terrible roster and bad coaching? That almost defies anything that’s ever been possible in the NFL. It’d be great if people on this board would actually give credit to our front office and coaching and recognize there is no such thing as perfection in the NFL. Why start the morning after a win complaining about the roster? It’s crazy how spoiled and pessimistic folks have become. I remember more optimism during the drought years when we needed to run the table through the second half of the season and needed help from 5 other teams. Maybe try to just enjoy the game again. It’s okay to have fun and be optimistic and appreciate how amazing this era of Bills football has been and continues to be. Quote
Steptide Posted 20 minutes ago Posted 20 minutes ago My fear is that McDermotts defense is really no better than it's ever been. I'll explain. After we went up 11 yesterday, the Bengals get the ball and Burrow just chucks it right down the field in 2 or 3 plays and throws a td to Higgins. If it's the playoffs and we're up with a min or 2 left, I have zero confidence the defense can do anything. I don't know if it's the prevent or what. 1 Quote

They've all drafted at the bottom of the rounds and it's catching up. Our Superman is the real Superman. Unfortunately we have a coach that likes to play hide the cape in the name of complimentary football. Quote

Only it was 3:00. And then the bills got ball back at 2:12….. which again. That was with peak Poyer and Hyde. That wasn’t good enough then. somehow we still have Poyer on the team. And cam Lewis. I would say safety is as big a disaster as wr. Ppl want to say “Poyer has steadied bishop” I don’t even know what that means tangibly. But they played rogers, mills , tua as of late so it “looks better.” It didn’t look better yesterday. Looked much as it ever has. If you don’t get a corner blitz w a superhero pic 6. And a fluky pin ball deflection INT….. like beane says can’t have it all. He crushed it with OL and a smattering of gems, Walker , hawes Edited 10 minutes ago by balln 1 Quote

That is something I have pondered before. Is the roster built this way because he wants it this way or is his inability to find game changers almost forcing him to spend money on depth instead? I don't know but he needs to ween himself the mid range vet depth at some point. Quote

After the Higgins TD made it 39-34 I was rooting for their 2 pt conversion to succeed so that, if they got the ball back, Cincy would be incentivized to drive for a tying FG rather than a winning TD.
