It’s the 97 Broncos.  They were a Wild Card team.  Offense included Elway, Terrell Davis and Shannon Sharpe.  Allen, Cook and Kincaid (when healthy) represent our offense’s top weapons.  While Elway was great, it was their running game that primed that offense.

Of the winning teams you listed I pick these and added one of my own:

2012 Ravens - Above average team with a QB who gets hot and the best pieces of that team hit it hot at the right time

2011 Giants - D-line comes together at seasons end and destroys QBs while QB drives the offense

1997 Broncos - HOF QB with great running game and enough at WR to go with an opportunistic defense.

2010 Packers (My pick) - HOF QB goes nuts come post season with a solid enough roster doing its part. I think the Packers WRs corp was sizably better, but with Kincaid healthy it closes the gap. Cook is a far better RB though then James Stark. Biggest difference is that defense was pretty good, the Bills defense would need to catch up there.

Few teams that might be similar but lost the Superbowl?

1999 Titans- Great QB & RB average WR corp. The defense though was super stout which makes the comparison tougher.

1996 Patriots- Offense was dynamic, defense was average so I get the comparison. The coaching staff was lightyears ahead of ours

1992 Buffalo Bills- Probably the worst of the four SB teams but I can see the comparison.

1996-97-89 Denver broncos- HOF QB drags an average roster to SBs ... yea sounds similar lol

Last week: Fire the entire Coaching staff!

This week, we're talking about Super Bowls?

Since the mid-90s, the internet has made it possible to discuss a wide variety of topics.

Anyway, I see a bit of the 2009 Cardinals. Obviously we don't have Fitzgerald or Boldin, but we have a dynamic QB who can turn on the switch and light it up.

That team looked awful at times, but then it finally clicked and they went on a run. If Allen gets it going, we can have a run.

How's that for optimism!

If this Bills team makes it to the Super Bowl, McDermott and his coaching staff should all get Coach of the Year.

And if they lose to the Bengals, by 6pm Sunday night the fans will demand the entire staff and team be blown up and the threads will be about mock drafts and salary cap stuff.

2005 Steelers would be my comp.

That team had to go on the road for all of their playoff games with a long-tenured coach who could never get over the hump, had no business winning the Super Bowl, but still did due to an insane amount of luck and other factors.

This Bills team is going to need some good fortune (for a change) to make a real run.

I made a similar point in another thread, that, ironically, this could be the year the Bills go all the way. A mediocre set of receivers, an incompetent offensive coordinator, a long list of injuries, a league-worst run defense...and they end up going to the Show and even winning it. The universe just seems to work like that sometimes. And in fact if you squint, you see a Super Bowl team in this year's iteration: QB, RB, OL, and TE are all very good to excellent, while the defense just might be coming into its own with McDermott evidently taking over, with veterans like Thompson, Poyer, White, and Milano giving it one last best push and young players like Bishop, Hairston, Walker, Sanders, and Hancock adding shots of talent and energy.

If Brady can do something--anything--with the passing game, and the defense we saw in Pittsburgh and the end of the Baltimore game is who they really are, this could be the year. All the other pieces are in place.
