No, that isn't how I determine the success or failure of the trade deadline but seeing if there is consensus or not can help in forming an opinion and any opinion can be had by anyone. Should there have been any offers I am sure they will surface in some manner and be reported and commented on.

There were really only 2 players moved yesterday that will make a big difference on the teams they were traded to and they both were traded away by the Jets, who were never going to trade with us anyway. Nonetheless, I think there is valid frustration seeing us overpay mid-level talent in FA who don't perform (which puts us in a bad cap situation), whiffing on higher rd draft picks and seemingly never making any significant trades to try and push our chips in to the middle of the table and go all in for any given season. Why is Curtis Samuel our 7th highest paid player? Why has Landon Jackson so crappy he has not been able to even make the active roster? The results are exactly what you would expect year after year, 2nd or 3rd rd exits and no SB appearances. At some point in time you have to do something different to try and win and we are not doing that.

It couldn't be any more clear that Bean isn't running the show, Sean is. No GM in his right mind starves an MVP QB of weapons at WR two years straight. Sean is saving those picks for average rotational D players.

This is who Beane is and has always been. 

 

McD and Beane are a package deal and aligned in essentially the same direction philosophically.  

 

Beane has changed though.  He went from the guy who drafted Josh, traded for Diggs, and signed Von Miller to a guy who stopped being bold.  He is the anti-Howie Roseman who has to boast of decisions made 7 years ago when he done messes up.

The reasons are self-inflicted though. We've got a good bit of $ tied up in players who contracts don't equal their performance IMO. Knox and Bernard just to name a couple home growns. Then add in bad signings like Samuel, and you're handcuffing yourself.

We all seem to agree that the Jets won the trade but are not confident the Jets will maximize the assets based on their past.
