Because in the AFCCG last year I saw Mack Hollins beat Trent McDuffie for a 35 yard TD right before the half. Any random player can have a good play now and again. I'm talking about consistency. We have no consistent outside WR ability right now. We're papering over it with a strong run game and quick efficient passes. I'm fine making that version of our offense 90% of what we do but in high leverage situations where we just need a bucket I still have no confidence we have the horses to get one. A lot of fans were pissed at Brady for that 3rd and 10 screen, but he called that play because even he doesn't have confidence in his WRs to get open. I personally had no problem with that play call. That's the world we have to live in with this personnel. 4 minutes ago, Big Turk said: Gabe will be good to go within a month or so, perfect for the stretch run, IMO The man is 26 years old, let's not act like he is on the other side of 30. The last time we saw Gabe in the Joe Brady offense, his targets were being intentionally diminished. Brady wants no part of Gabe's low efficiency/high negative play rate style of WR. Like I said he's a better option than Shavers. I still do not want him to suddenly become a key part of this offense. 1 Quote

The point is he will be far better at getting open downfield than what we have now which will have to be respected and should allow more breathing room underneath. Regardless of what we thought of him, he was one of the best deep ball WR's in the NFL during his time here and had the 2nd highest YPC in the NFL while here. Edited 9 hours ago by Big Turk Quote

It's not just you but it's just entirely unrealistic. Getting RID of Gabe helped the Bills transition into becoming more efficient and less turnover prone. Because he was a root cause of their problems with his bad play. In his two years as the unquestioned WR2 in Buffalo Allen had an 80 passer rating when targeting Gabe and a ridiculous 12 interceptions. For every big game Gabe catch there was a "wrong way" Gabe moment in a crucial situation where we were left by the Bills to wonder who was wrong about where the route was supposed to go. Having seen the more efficient, MVP level Josh the past two years.........I think we can ascertain the answer was that Gabe sucked. It was more of the same with Jacksonville. Made some catches downfield but was a QB killer in general. Then he busted his knee. 1 2 Quote

The 2nd video, if we had a legit outside WR instead of Coleman that WR might have gotten open and that was Allen's 2nd progression in the play. Shakir gets chucked at the line which makes him late to his route break, the break is also rounded which gives Bryan Cook time and leverage to get involved at the catch point. And then that 3rd and 10 screen to Shakir, we only call plays like that because Brady knows we don't have a traditional drop back pass game where we can expect somebody to separate quickly. Love the win yesterday. We ran well and Allen got back to his 2024 hyper efficient play style. But don't let the win cover up the fact that we still have a major issue at outside WR. There are several plays that pop up on tape where we just need our X to win his route to give us a chance at a completion, and Coleman just can't do it. Show me an X getting wide open against man coverage without some kind of pick or coverage bust... You act like there are just guys toasting coverage left and right all over then NFL. The fact is tight coverage is THE WHOLE POINT of playing man. 1 Quote

You don't think there is a single X receiver in the NFL that can get open against man coverage? What in the world... I'm begging you to watch the tape. Coleman is superglued to his man on almost every play. There are a few times on the Chiefs tape where Allen gets his eyes to Coleman 1v1 and the read just isn't there. 1 Quote

I just checked, and he a bunch of games with sacks and TFLs plus a forced fumble or two. Of course, being the Chargers, they tended to lose those close games in brutal fashion, including multiple single score losses and a couple in OT. But they didn't lose because of Bosa, who KC really struggled to handle. Anyway, I am guessing that Beane noticed the same. it’s going to be a real pain in the butt when we beat KC wildcard weekend and then the colts are our road block Quote

Alphadawg7 Posted 54 minutes ago Posted 54 minutes ago Don’t look now, but Allen’s stats are better than they were at this time last year in his MVP season…I honestly was surprised to see that. He has more yards and 3 more TDs with the same record. 1 Quote

He has more yards and 3 more TDs with the same record. Stats didn't get Allen an MVP last year. Lamar Jackson's stats dwarfed his. And as a passer this year Allen is around 15th-17th statistically. The rushing TD's are nice but it's a bunch of tush pushes.......no long valiant run like when he closed out KC last year. The home loss to NE and the road loss to an Atlanta team that will finish with a losing record undermine his MVP chances greatly this year. Last year his losses were to 3 division winners on the road. All 3 reached the divisional round. And he beat the NFC #1 seed on the road. This schedule was considerably easier, that 6-2 doesn't feel as impressive because it hasn't been. Quote
