To fire or not to fire?

  1. 1. It's all up to you. Do you fire Sean McDermott?

    • Yes. Gotta stop wasting Josh Allen
    • No. He turned the team around and deserves more time.

Players win for themselves. They win for each other. Plus, the last 5 years, Josh wins this division on his own.

ONE division rival finally got a decent QB and a very good HC, and they just ate our lunch in our own stadium.

A team does not keep a coach that lost the locker room 9 years earlier. Do you wanna know what they've done? They could mail it every season. What did they do in 2023? Started 6-6, our coach gets a hit piece put on him by Tyler Dunne, the players literally said after beating the Chiefs to start the playoff run "we got your back coach". They reel off 5 straight and win another division title and go to the playoffs. What did they do last year after losing 2 straight and falling to 3-2? They went on to win 7 in a row, a 5th straight division title and go to the championship game. Yes, teammates can win for each other but how many times have you seen coaches lose the team and the team just falls apart and never recovers. Trust me when I tell you, McDermott up to this season, has not lost this team. They still play for him. It's why he still has a job here

@Kirby Jackson a little support here...

guy doesn't believe that McD lost the locker room over Peterman starting against the Chargers or the refusal to bench him.

nor that McD lost the players after the scapegoat 13 seconds thus causing us to move on from a veteran who was the main voice of the rebellion.

you and i both had separate confirmation of both of these instances - you even going so far as to mention players were texting at halftime they were pissed.

Teams don't play for a coach that lost their team. Teams don't keep a coach that lost their team 9 years earlier. Do you wanna know why he made the switch go Peterman I. 2017? Because Tyrod was bad and he wanted a spark, it didn't work he realized his mistake and immediately went back to Tyrod but they fought for him to get into the playoffs that year. 2023 after the Tyler Dunne hit piece, same thing.

that hit piece was accurate by players who left the team. Hughes hated McD and knew he was full of crap. a few other scorned lovers in there and the WR coach who moved on down to Miami (I think it was). people who were good at their jobs moved on or gracefully backed out from McD (Frazier) before they could be further scapegoated.

Ty Dunne's piece was not wrong and some players buy in to his clappy mccrappy but we don't need buy in boys or boy scouts. it can go both ways, as you mentioned, McDaniel has lost his team for example. McDermott lost his team a few times but has Josh.

The whole reason Ken Dorsey gut fired was a players only meeting that McD did not want to acknowledge. they met and decided enough was enough. it was not Diggs who led it either, for the record. i think he was even mentioned as not going or staying long. it was a few key players and even Ty Johnson. the leaders of the offense went to McD to say Dorsey had to go after the Bengals game before the bye. McD didn't listen and even rode the bye week without doing anything. the players gave up on him and then with no spirit dropped to the Broncos. McD finally listened to his team and canned Dorsey.

McD did not want to change coordinators again, he did not want to show he made a mistake after losing Daboll who some players had wanted to assume the role. Daboll had a serious influence on this team and not just the offense. McD's pride to show he made the right call with Dorsey hurt this team.

and i was big fan of Dorsey getting the job.

The fans that are calling for his head right now will only calm down when we win a Super Bowl.

Ha! I'd be happy if they even got to a Superbowl. Or even past the Chefs for that matter.

no he didn't immediately. dennison liked Peterman. dennison got laughed out of the league.

mcd put him back in the game after half to have him throw a pick immediately. he didn't go immediately back to taylor

revisionist history to go so far on all of this. taylor was playing poorly but to think Peterman gave us any other better shot is terrible coaching and evaluation not just on dennison but on McD.

You’ve “been saying it for years”.  You’ve started the thread 3 times.   Yet you’re not worried about being right.  👌

Team starts off 4-0.  Loses two games and then we should fire the HC week 7?  So we can have Joe Brady call the plays and learn how to be a head coach at the same time?  Sounds like a plan that will gut the team for the remainder of the year.  But you never know….. count me as one to say we shouldn’t fire the coach during this season.  After the season- possibly….but let it play out

What does starting a poll have to do with being right?

I get it, you want some gotcha moment here but it just isn't

Be honest... Outside of 4 minutes at the end of the ravens game, how good have they looked? I would say they look terrible and just eeked out wins against bad teams. You honestly think at the eye test this team looks like a super bowl contender this year?

It was from bitter players and coaches that got fired and let go. Yeah, let's believe that. The players specifically said to him after beating the Chiefs to go on that run "we got your back coach" after the Tyler Dunne hit piece. I know you hate McDermott and want him gone but this is nonsense. If you lost the locker room, you quit on the team, plain and simple. The players have never quit. You don't get rid of you coach by continually winning games lol

If we miss the palyoffs, then all bets are off and he should be fired. However, if I'm Beane/Pegula I'm telling him he needs to fire the coordinators and hire from outside his coaching tree. There needs to be a new perspective in the room.

People keep asking for a list of candidates. Here is one that SI put together for the Titans' opening, but I think it works for any team: https://www.si.com/nfl/titans-19-top-head-coach-candidates

I appreciate the list because I hate the weak rebuttal of "Well WHO can you GUARANTEE will come in and win as head coach?!?" That isnt the winning argument folks think it is. Over 90% of this board had no idea who Sean McDermott was in January 2017.

The bummer is, it's a sad list compared to what has been out there the last few years (Vrabel, Harbaugh, Payton, specifically).

I have heard that. The roster has turned over some and by most account McDermott has softened some. If the players loved him though things like the Taliban comments wouldn’t have leaked. I haven’t heard anything recently but I’m not hearing as much on anything at the moment.

I really hate dumb, biased polls like this so almost never participate when I come across one--so loaded in their language, with no good options for many/most posters.

Here? The only option for keeping McDermott is a flat out diumb response, that clearly shows the

OPs bias:  "He turned the team around and deserves more time."

As if THAT is a common form of reasoning, and the main one!!, for those wanting to keep McDermott!

Flat out ridiculous and over the top comical bias.  As, per this poll, THAT reason would be the only, or main reason, folks who think McDermott should be the head coach, use to justify his continued tenure here. And what an awful reason, eight years into his tenure, presented in this dumb poll as the sole reason many would want to keep him.

100% nonsense.   It completely invalidates the poll results, as  THAT is not a reason almost any Bills' fans have for sticking with McDermott--so why on earth would they choose that?? Or participate in this mega biased poil, soley designed to get as many 'fire him' responses as possible--and as few 'keep him' responses as possible.

Create a valid poll, one that makes sense and is reasonable, please. Don't wasted people's time.

The opposite of love isn't hate, it's apathy. Maybe they just dont care enough to be upset anymore since they know it wont change...

going off your other comment, as well.... you'd think if the Bills needed an OC they could get 30 resumes by 4pm with Allen as the QB but yet you do not hear a lot about people wanting to work with McDermott. You don't hear the raving you do for other coaches out there like McVay, Harbaugh, or many other coaches out there.

You do not hear bad things but you just do not hear anything! that's just as telling.

Flores would be a great coach here.

Maybe, but no more Defensive HCs. Just cant do it. With Josh, we'll continue to churn OCs every year or 2.

I do wish McD had reached out to his old division rival after he got fired and offered him Frazier's replacement and turned the D over to him.

Certainly possible. Every era seems to have guys with loose lips. I personally do not hear nearly as much as I used to. I’m not sure that’s because the organization has all of a sudden stopped the leaks or that it’s now just different people with loose lips.
