the only thing that has come close to stopping our multiple tight end/heavy jumbo package was when miami trotted out 5 or 6 DL and we arrogantly ran right into it.  cook still lit that game up.

i think brady has to get just a little bit less creative at times and stick to his guns a bit (more play action vs NO was a good sign of this, means we aren't just throwing out a million different looks all game), but having 8 blockers, cook, and coleman on the field w allen is kind of disgusting.  as i see it, the two biggest threats to us winning a chip (aside from injuries obv) are the chiefs and the iggles.  both run a similar to ours cover 2 type scheme/nickel base, but kc blitzes with the best of them and philly has monsters inc on their line.  the answer to that is catching them w 2 lbs on the pitch and physically mauling them along with play action, which i think we do better than anyone.

4 of the 6 rings brady got w ne was from sound d and run, and being able to pass short medium and long with multiple combos of tight ends on the field, we should copy that and make 2 te sets our sort of offensive base.  we already know we can spread well, even with lack luster wrs.

last season houston gave us fits (as did baltimore) since we could not stress the d outside the numbers.  a multiple te set with actual talent changes the game there and put the advantage back to us.

also, i think dalton kinky has been our most improved player year to date.

An elite blocking TE that can handle 3-4 targets per game (and turn them into first downs and scores) is more valuable than a pure pass catching TE that has 6-7 targets per game. If Hawes can develop his catching he could be the most important TE on the roster. He has a ways to go, but he's already a much better pass catcher than someone like Lee Smith (who played a similar style).

The Bills didn't run the 3 TE sets too much in the game, and it seemed to me there was a lot of Kincaid and Hawes in the 2 TE sets.

Hawes comp seems to be a Knox who can actually catch the ball when thrown to him.

If Hawes continues to develop above expectations, there is a high chance Knox will be a Cap Casualty in the Off-season...... let's enjoy the 3 TE sets while they last.....

While I agree with you, that this may be likely now, I instead hope that they use the three tight ends they have, all together and in other ways, even more now, and in more creative, dynamic ways as the season progresses  And in doing so realize just how helpful it is to have three high quality, maybe 3 starting quality tight ends on the same roster.

It is clearly a strength of the team, so Brady needs to keep developing it now.

Knox is likely Josh's best friend on the team, so I would think he would be calling for the same things.  To improve the offense, and to keep his good friend there with him.

Curious - has anyone watched any footage breakdown on Hawes over this season yet?  If not, there are things on social and youtube to look for, but man is it impressive.  He is a manimal as a blocker, and to think he is only 4 games into his career and could perceivably get even better is pretty exciting.  Its also pretty wild that a guy known for his blocking got his first target in such a massive moment and way down field in tight coverage against the Ravens and made the play.

I like Knox, a lot, so this not about him or anything - just about how much Hawes has himself impressed thus far and how many big and positive plays he has affected with his blocking and limited touches already as what essentially started as a TE3.  Its fun film to watch if you haven't seen any outside what you saw live in games.

He’s a difference maker in the run game.  I think he’ll go down as a top 5 Beane draft pick, maybe higher.  He should be on the field almost every run play, only a few without him to keep the D honest.

I can tell you this, if we trade a TE before the deadline, one of the two remaining on the active roster will be injured in no time flat. That’s just how it seems to work, sadly.
