A Shout Out to my Hoosiers

As many of you know I'm a UGA fan, but I'm also an IU Alum and am really impressed with Curt Cignetti and the job he's done with the Hoosiers.  I was a student during the good Bill Mallory years, but Cignetti has done what Mallory could never do and make IU competitive with the top teams in the BIg 10.

 

Today's beatdown of No. 9 Illinois was as impressive a win by a Hoosier team that I can remember.  The 63 points was the most a Big 10 team has ever scored over a top 10 ranked squad.  

 

Now go beat Iowa on the road.

Wanted to mention that Herbstreit, Howard and Saban all picked Ill to win.  Said they'd out physical the Hoosiers.  How could Saban pick against his old asst Cignetti?

No rankings until week 5 makes a lot of sense. Preseason rankings set narratives that are hard to rewrite with results. But yeah, Hoo, Hoo, Hoo, Hoosiers! (I went to grad school at IU and lived in Bloomington from 1998 until 2007).

The committee put them in the top 10 cause of Altmyer.......you'll seem them quickly drop out of the 25 soon.

I must admit that coming into the season I thought that they were imposters. The truth is that they are very good. The QB looks to be special.

I agree.  Indiana is playing good football.  Smart of them to extend Cignetti.  I'm a Penn State alum and could not have been more disappointed in their season.  I knew when Pribula left for Missouri, the offense would stumble.  Allar is not that good.  He's not mentally tough.  Sad to see his season end the way it did.  I'm not surprised they canned Franklin.  Hopefully, Indiana can give OSU a run for the conference.

Paul Finebaum continues to spend his credibility. I understand being an SEC Homer, but sorry Paul, Texas A&M doesn’t have a better resume than Indiana.

 

Indiana's best win is over 7-1 Oregon on the road by 10 pts.  TAM’s best win is at home over 6-2 ND by a pt.

indiana’s second best win is also a road win over 6-2 Iowa. TAM’s 2nd best win is over 5-3 LSU also at home.

 

Indiana is 6-0 in conference with a win over 5-3 Ill 63-10 and whose opponents have a 15-17 record.  TAM’s 5 conference wins are over teams with a 6-20 conference record including 3 teams that have fired their coaches.  
 

Sorry Paul the resume’s aren’t even close.

My heart is still racing.  Penn St was really game.  
 

Cooper’s catch was unbelievable.  
 

I don’t hate the squib kick to take time off the clock, but it was executed terribly.  It needed to be hit harder and deeper.

 

This was always going to be a very tough game against a talented team on the road with nothing to lose and a goal to wreck IUs season.

That was some of the most impressive body control I've seen in a long time

 

Mendoza is really trying to cement himself as the number one pick in the draft 

 

Could you imagine Indiana Hoosiers number one pick in the NFL draft

 

 pretty sure the Hoosiers also have Mendoza's brother as a backup quarterback lol

I think it's heading that way

 

He's definitely the number one quarterback on my board right now and a lot of scouts that I know so he's trending that way

He is out of the NFL QB mold.  Tall, decently mobile, good arm, accurate.  His decision making is so much better now than at Cal, but he does make some terrible reads still, such as the late interception against both Oregon and Penn St.  What separates him is his ability to shake off the bad plays and immediately lead his team down the field for TDs in both games.

The mold changes all the time and it doesn't matter with specific prospects 

 

Peyton Manning would be good in 1970 1990 2010 or 2025 it doesn't matter if he's mobile or not 

 

 a guy like Dante Moore might be more athletic and entice you.. I don't think he will run an NFL offense better than  Mendoza long-term 

 

Remember he's still doing this with Indiana athletes good not five star 

 

Put him on Oregon with Dante Moore's weapons and he might be clear and away the best quarterback

 

Every quarterback throws interceptions every quarterback makes mistakes.. its how you bounce back.. how you grow

 

He was a good quarterback at Cal last year and is still growing ... And plays poised from the pocket.. he needs to work on his improvisation 

 

They do run a lot of rpos at Indiana but that is also coming to the pro game.. and he is very quick at reading and letting it rip

The people across the street quietly put an Indiana flag in the ground this year. He’s an engineer and has done some really impressive work (like the ATL runway that goes over I-75/85), so I’m guessing that was him.

 

He may have even been a catcher there, because he was  a catcher somewhere and he can barely walk now, with knee replacements in his future. He scares me to death just taking the trash cans in!
