Because they think that if everyone lived/thought like they do, the world would be perfect.

The political right in the U.S. often aligns with Christian conservative values promoting policies on issues like abortion, LGBTQ+ rights, and education that reflect those beliefs. This can feel exclusionary to people of different faiths or none at all, especially when those religious values influence laws.

The political left, on the other hand, tends to champion secularism and individual rights, which often conflicts with traditional religious doctrines. For devout believers, progressive policies on issues like gender, sexuality, or end-of-life rights can seem like a violation of their moral framework.

 

Both groups feel values of the other party are being "forced" on them. Both sides often use government power to enforce their vision of morality.  Both groups behave the exact same way. They will never like each other. Religion has been causing wars and tension for thousands of years. Go figure it still does so in the US within our political system.

except for some, it's not about religion.  My religious beliefs align with the rights.  It's about live and let live on social issues.  Who am I to judge as Pope Francis said.  But authoritarianism I can't abide.

Not everybody fits in these categories. But they explain a large part of the motivations and anger behind each party.
