I would actually say the model the Bills are employing is much more similar to the Celtics from 2016-17 to 2024-25 the Celtics were constantly a good team (with 2020-21 being the lone exception) that was making deep playoff runs and while its looking like that core isn't gonna be a multi-title dynasty they still had a great run of consistent success with two runs to the Finals and a title to show for it.

I'm not upset.  You're one of the guys I most enjoy talking with about this stuff.  We have different takes, and I like it.

I said you're the poster child because you, like others, do seem to regularly read something into what I write that I don't intend:  I'm not here to reflexively defend what McBeane do.  I talk about why I think they do what they do.  You seemed to be saying I thought they were super football genius, and I don't. I think they've worked hard to develop a plan and their following.  Maybe that's not what you were implying.  Sorry if you got the wrong impression.

Thanks! In this particular thread my pushback is simply that I see the current rendition of the Bills as REACTING not trend setting. I maintain that they had painted themselves into a salary cap corner and are now simply working their way out of it.  We both hope it works. As sports has proven time and time again there’s no more than one way to win a championship. It has to be our time once….right?

The defense being played in the NBA playoffs is ferocious, almost dangerously so. It's been that way for a while now.

Yup, the players put in way more effort on D in the playoffs and the refs swallow the whistle quite a bit

So the best player in the NBA at the most important position never makes it through finals?  I'm not a big fan of this strategy

Right. But more than that I just didn't understand the comparison when we are more reliant on Josh to win it all than any other team is on any other one player. The Chiefs, Eagles, whoever don't have a defense that consistently gets destroyed in the biggest games and can never get a late game stop. They also don't have these late game generational meltdowns like 13 seconds after their QB gives them 2 leads inside 2 minutes.

I agree with almost everything you’re saying, but as a Knicks fan I disagree w/ your opinion of Brunson. He is a legitimate superstar. He elevates everyone on that squad. One of the most clutch players in the NBA and just dominated Tatum & the Celtics. There are very few guards I would take over him. Like Josh Allen, I think he’s going to bring his team multiple championships when it’s all said and done. Both are in the early part of their primes and it’s exciting knowing that we are set for the next decade. Love the quiet determination, humbleness, and leadership that each play with.

I think Shaw is basically saying these teams dont try to build a superstar heavy team and rely more on depth and quality role players.  That is the way the NBA has been going lately.  And it seems to be working better currently.
