It’s a compliment.  They used to say Brady or Manning.  Now its Allen, Mahomes or Lamar

This was a very innocent comment and actually a sign of respect. People comparing it to Ramsey calling him "trash" are being ridiculous.

I think whether Josh uses something as motivation depends on who says it.  Ramsey said John is "trash" so I have no doubt he'd use that as motivation.  Here it seems like the kid is saying he wants to pick off the best QB in the NFL.  Now that doesn't mean Josh won't still try to abuse him, but I don't think there's animosity behind it.

Quite the opposite, it actually screams respect.

To the above, Exactly.

Imagine the reaction here if Starks had said Mahomes or Burrow and someone posted that here.

More or less outrage than this topic?

Joe Burrow should take this personally.

Perfect.

Buffalonians are seriously sensitive about many things.

They're still upset over blizzard of 77 jokes by Johnny Carson .

Me not ever hearing anyone upset about this makes me not believe you

Maybe that's based on how old you are?

I think you can leave Lamar off your list.....if he ever learns how to read defenses pre-snap, or be able to throw to anyone other than his first read before taking off to run, then maybe he can be considered, but I am not holding my breath.

Once his athleticism fades, he will fall off quickly.

As for Starks, he wants an INT off the best QB on the planet......what defender doesn't want that?? Wanting an interception is one thing, but getting one is quite another.

You really believe that Lamar can't read defenses pre-snap or throw to his second or third read?

As far as the "placebo effect":

  • By most definitions calling it such means that it did actually have an effect. If it had no effect it would not qualify as a placebo.
  • As others have pointed it out, there's no way to measure it HOWEVER, to say that bulletin board material NEVER has a motivating aspect to it is preposterous. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't... case by case.

Yes. I don't believe bulliten board material has any real impact on mental state. Players convince themselves it does. Normally as a results based narrative after the event. Nobody ever talks about the bulletin board stuff when they lose. It only matters when they win. It's the reason! It isn't. It's mumbo jumbo.

yup- we tell the stories that prove it and ignore the ones that don’t fit.

Heck this thread uses a story from a Super Bowl as if the players would otherwise coast
