I like the liberalism within that church. Could've gone Episcopalian here but she could see I'm fully indoctrinated. I have Jewish friends who feel the same way: It's part of their identity. She's quite pragmatic. She doesn't feel the team you choose much matters. It's that you choose one and follow it., The important stuff is all the same. Love one another. I enjoy the intellectual aspects and just disagree with you once again. No problem, but we all must come to our own conclusions, especially when it regards something as serious as this. I have no problem with the Catholic Church. I simply don't believe their theological interpretation. For me it's quite simple. I don't know that every square meter of earth was covered by water during the flood. I don't know that Jonah spent a few days in a fish. What I am convinced of is that Jesus existed, was crucified and rose from the dead. To me, based on evidence, this is indisputable. The many forks in the road one chooses after that s up to them. 1

I am never going to get into Revelations, nor ever attend any Bible study that does. It's just too weird. But....Regarding the Anti Christ, the individual is going to be far more impressive than anything we've ever seen.

Wacka Posted Tuesday at 11:46 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:46 PM Again, the AI generated memes are mocking the libs not the pope. The idiot "journalist" asked him who he would want as pope. What kind of stupid question is that? First, he isn't Catholic, second 99.99999999% of Catholics have no idea either. She asked a stupid question, he gave a funny answer, someone on created a meme for it, and the left predictably go ape sh**. You got owned again. 1

Im so glad the president is wasting his time trying to “own the libs.” Very mature of him.

Andy1 Posted Wednesday at 02:13 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:13 AM This is quite an interesting thread with the discussion on theology and history of the churches practices, etc. Sounds like most of us, myself included, have a Catholic background regardless of which side of the political spectrum we are on. We all may be looking at each other in the church pews. I just hope the Cardinals choose someone who can continue to speak truth to politicians and be a voice for peace, democracy and advocate for the poor, homeless and disadvantaged across the globe. Carry on chaps…
B-Man Posted Wednesday at 08:51 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 08:51 PM I didn't think that there would be, but no first round decision.
B-Man Posted yesterday at 12:21 AM Author Posted yesterday at 12:21 AM The ballots for the first round were burned. Voting will resume tomorrow morning at 9:30 am Rome time tomorrow (3 am Eastern time) .

The black smoke (for no winner) are the ballots with a chemical added to make the smoke black. Back in olden times, they burned wet straw with the ballots to make it black. 1
stevestojan Posted yesterday at 01:54 AM Posted yesterday at 01:54 AM Is it more prestigious to be a first ballot pope? 1

Close in 1939 Pope Pius XII was elected on March 2, 1939, during a brief conclave. The election occurred on the third ballot, not the first, according to California State University, Northridge. However, the conclave was so swift that it's often mistakenly thought to have been a first-ballot election, especially since he (Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli) was elected on the first day.
stevestojan Posted yesterday at 05:12 AM Posted yesterday at 05:12 AM Interesting. I assumed it happened regularly if there was a “favorite.” What happens if we go weeks and weeks without a 2/3rds? I suppose I could just google.
B-Man Posted yesterday at 02:45 PM Author Posted yesterday at 02:45 PM Black smoke signals no pope named in today's first conclave ballots Black smoke billowed from the chimney of Rome's Sistine Chapel on Thursday, indicating the 133 elector cardinals locked inside still had not reached a decision on a successor to Pope Francis in early votes on the second day of the conclave. ∎ The cardinals spent the morning shut off from the world, inside the historic chapel adorned with frescoes from Michelangelo and other Renaissance artists. They prayed for guidance and conducted two secretive votes, trying to determine new leadership for the world's 1.4 billion Roman Catholics. ∎ The electors returned to their living quarters, Casa Santa Marta, for lunch and were scheduled to reconvene late Thursday afternoon, when two more votes are allowed. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2025/05/08/conclave-vote-new-pope-live-updates-thursday/83494145007/ 1
