I miss Mack Hollins.  😢

I think Beane made a big mistake not bringing him back.  Considering what we paid Elijah Moore for 1 year, Mack would’ve been worth the extra chunk next season. 3.5M gtd.  4M cap hit in 2025.   Vs 2.5M for Moore.  I have hopes Moore can contribute, I just don’t think he’ll have a big of an impact as Mack.  Shakir will miss him more anyone.  Or maybe it’ll be Hammer Hawes in there pounding people.

Just felt the need to vent.

1.8 catches per game and 22 yards per game is not a big impact. I understand he is a good blocker, but a WR needs to catch more than 2 balls per game to be an impact player.  I don’t get the concern over losing him. If he wore shoes, didn’t dress in costumes before games, and used utensils, nobody would think twice about him.

They asked Beane in one of his pressers about Mack not coming back. Beane said he wanted him back but Mack made the decision to head out, so have to ask him. He abandoned you.

Did he say that they matched NE’s offer and he chose NE?  My money is Mack took the best offer and it wasn’t Beanes.  Can’t blame a 31 year old journeyman WR for taking the most money.

He was a reliable target.

Something Josh has had a shortage of since he joined the NFL.

Gabe Davis was at one time also. He had the same blocking capabilities, but not worth the money he wanted. I would not be shocked if Hollins has the same results.

Beasley was his most reliable.  Sucked losing him during all the covid drama crap.

People forget, but there was very much a Wayne Chrebet-like quality with Beasley there for a few seasons where Allen could consistently find him on slants when it was 3rd and 6-12.

Another good point … Hollins was a great teammate who never put himself before the team.

It did sound like Beane wanted him back and it felt like Mack took the deal without giving the BILLS time to match. The Patriots went in hard this FA and I wouldn’t be surprised if they pushed him to choose quick. I don’t remember Beane referring to a player like he did with Mack.

Nah- he doesn’t have the same blocking capabilities.  Gabe is a good blocker.  He’s not as good of a blocker.

Just because Gabe was a good blocking WR, doesn’t mean that they are comparable in this way. One was paid 13M.  The other 4M.  Macks play last year was 💯 worth 4.2M.  And it would’ve been this year too if he were on the Bills.  I’ll bet that we see NE throw 10 passes to Treyveon with Mack out there mauling people.

He was also one of our best ST players.

How quick?  He could’ve went to take a dump, called Beane, told him the numbers and matched or not.

or maybe he just didn’t want to come back….. taking everything into consideration, I can’t see that being the case

That's like being the skinniest kid at fat camp.

No- that’s like being our best WR in our season biggest game.  Making plays in the biggest game of the year….. that’s why we haven’t won a SB.  Because we haven’t made enough plays in the biggest games.

Correct.  It's why Brandon Beane defending his lack of investment at WR hit a nerve this off-season when confronted by it.  If you're Hollins though, you had your best year with McDaniel's as the offensive coordinator and you're guaranteed a lot more playoff time with the Patriots.  If I was offered the same money from each team, I'd choose the Patriots.  I'd much rather have Hollins than freakin' Elijah Moore though.

We need big time playmakers to make plays in big games

As a 31 year old WR on a 2 year contract…. You’d rather join a team with zero percent chance to win the SB over those 2 years and join a bunch of guys you’ve never played with before. 🤷🏻‍♂️

maybe he just loves McDaniel and would rather play with him.  If that’s the case, no fault on Beane.

Whoever it may be-  Mack made big plays catching passes and blocking for long gains

I'd want to play at a place where I wasn't standing on the sideline as much.  I know they get paid either way but when I used to play sports I hated riding the pine.

Elijah Moore isn't his replacement. They're different kind of players. Josh Palmer was brought in to be a more talented version of what Mack was and with a bigger role than Mack had. He moves Keon to the Z, with Shakir and Samuel (who I'd expect they plan on having a bigger role this year).

Ultimately, between Shakir, Palmer, Coleman, Samuel, and Kincaid (out of the Slot) - I don't think whomever is WR5 is going to have much of a role.

And honestly, I don't think they expected to use Hollins as much as they did. Between Samuel's Turf Toe to start the year, Coleman not being gangbusters out of the gate (and then being injured), and then Cooper getting injured almost immediately - he was pushed into having a bigger role than they anticipated.

Bc of that, New England offered him a 2 year, 8.4m deal and a bigger role than he'd have here. I don't think they wanted to pay that for the small role of WR5, I don't think he wanted the smaller role he'd have here after we signed Palmer, and I think they wanted a speed element in the WR game (which Mack doesn't provide).

He was a great locker room guy and a fun presence on the team. But they wanted an upgrade in talent on the Outside, as well as some speed as well. It really didn't make sense for either side for him to return. He'll have a bigger role and be paid better in New England.

Again, it comes down to money and role. A 31 year old journeyman WR who overachieved the year before is going to want to cash in. We paid him 2.6m last year. Having someone sign you for multiple years for up to 8.4m is a big jump.

Good team or bad team, no 31 year old WR is going to pass up more money and a bigger role for less money and a smaller role. This could be Mack's last contract.
