Same tune, different lyrics...šŸ˜

Yes, Mister Reimer and Howard trading barbs in commercials wasā€¦ā€¦

Ā

ā€¦..that, and Howards time with the ā€˜Tiny tot of the kilowattā€™.Ā
Ā

Career defining, but Howard went out on his own accord. Kudos to him.

Howard seems like a nice guy, wish him well. Obviously he is a true radio professional and understands how an on air program should move technically. Probably could have done radio of any genre. He certainly leaned hard into the old man, nerd guy. It was overkill at times and never once funny. My biggest issue with him is he simply knew nothing about sports. Maybe his schedule of having to get up early for the show made it hard for him to stay awake to watch? Or maybe he just didnā€™t think he had to try because he was around for so long. Him picking the Bills was such a big thing to those guys. They could have had the janitor pick the games and itā€™d be most likely more sensible.
Ā

If you are a true die hard sports fan, itā€™s tough to find sports talkĀ shows where you feel Impressed with their opinions. Other than the guys on gambling shows or a few film breakdown/old GM typesā€¦you usually arenā€™t hearing anything that moves the needle. But when itā€™s painfully clear that a guy knows close to zero, itā€™s tough. Jeremy is horrible. He tries to be like Schopp and succeeds by being wrong constantly. Coming up with ludicrous or factually incorrect statements to then use as reasoning for opinions is aggravating. Sal is certainly a homer, nobody can fight against that. But you can hear it in his voice because of how often he is frustrated by these WGR takes. Sal knows what heā€™s talking about but I think he gets handcuffed by not wanting to step on toes. I have heard him get very upset with Schopp before because these guys on WGR, truly are clueless about most things. Itā€™s as if, Schopp, Jeremy and the most used young guy (they all

sound the same) all get together and just decide the narratives to push.
Ā

Never punting and going for 2 constantly, thinking defense doesnā€™t matter, wanting to pass every down, only wanting offensive HC etc. Itā€™s like they take a tiny idea that has validity in certain situations and just run it to intolerable levels. And nobody can say anything to change their minds. A punt is a turnoverā€¦..Thatā€™s something that youā€™d hear an 8 year old say. These guys really talkĀ that way.

Finally.Ā  Thank you.Ā  Howard had longevity. That's his biggest accomplishment and it's impressive by radio standards. People are acting like it was the end of Mike and the Maddog or something.Ā

Ā

Sirius is the one subscription I never complain about paying.Ā  If they raise the rates I'll still gladly pay. I get more insight on the Bills in a 12 minute segment of Movin The Chains than I would on a week's worth of GR.

Yeah Brianmorman4jesus, I hear you.Ā

Iā€™m mean look at most of us, itā€™s Saturday morning and weā€™re posting on a Bills board, looking again at Combine numbers, looking scouting reports of Josh Bloom to see if the Sabres gave away a good prospect, weā€™re fans.

Ā

I agree with a lot of what youā€™ve wrote here.

Ā

Over the years I do think Howard prepared less and less for the show. There were less notes he took from the Bills games that made the radio. He did lean into the self-deprecating, Iā€™m fat, Iā€™m old, I never work out, Iā€™ll eat 6 doughnuts before a piece of broccoli hahaha schtick.

Ā

And youā€™re right about WGR and narratives. That was the word I used in my last call with Howard and Jeremy after the Dolphins game, where they were going on and on about ā€œno layupsā€ in this offense but then simultaneously wanting Josh to check it down more often. They complained about how there is no run game, despite never wanting to run.Ā
Ā

It ties in with another point you made about listening to real experts break down film. You know that Dorsey schemed checkdowns into the offense because Kurt Warner showed you the play design on film and explained in detail the nuance of each play.Ā
Ā

But when you take that to Howard and Jeremy and site your source you get run off the air.Ā
Ā

Callers will reference old saying by Marv Levy, or talk about how important fullbacks are, or how the Sabres need an enforcer, or theyā€™ll start crying on the air and theyā€™ll get time.Ā
Ā

You make a technical point, you better make it quick and get off the air.

Ā

Jeremy and Joe have ADHD as they bounce around from the Madden cast, Everton soccer, golf documentaries, and Twitter statistics.Ā
Ā

Schopp has been on a crusade this week about how teams donā€™t know who is going to be good or bad in the draft.Ā
Ā

With all that said, your large National programs are even more limited in scope. Itā€™s Cowboys, Aaron Rodgers, Lakers, Mahomes blowing, Russell Westbrook bashing.Ā

Ā

The crazy part about that with Schoppā€¦.he always says that. You never know who is going to be good in the draft and that teams might as well just use the Mel keiper brake downs as scouting reports. Saying itā€™s a crapshoot. But then he also ALWAYS says he wants to trade back to get more picks? If you donā€™t have any clue what you are getting, why is he obsessed with getting more picks? I guess if his idea is you never know, you want more chancesā€¦but if you have no clue then why is he so against using those picks for proven commodities?

Ā

The way they act as if defenses and running games donā€™t matter drive me insane. I realize the game has changed but things arenā€™t just black and white. There is a considerable gray area between passing league and all you have to do is pass. Also, being aggressive on 4th down and kicking less FGsā€¦fine. Thatā€™s understandable in certain situations. But there are also alot of times where itā€™s not the best idea. They go off these numbers as if thereā€™s never a time to think. The information is wonderful and it should be used as a tool to make decisions. But it canā€™t be telling you what to do regardless of circumstances. For guys that almost never make direct statements and always follow up things with ā€œthat doesnā€™t have to be rightā€ they certainly canā€™t be told anything about circumstance.
